deskp Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 There is something weird in Cap Hook's hook, right? I see something white That's just shine. I upscaled the image so tll be more comfortable to zoom in on details etc: http://i63.tinypic.com/5ov21v.png Quote
TheLegoDr Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 You'd think Aladdin would have a little Abu mold, but it looks like both Aladdin and Genie have a lamp...seems a bit odd considering it should be the SAME lamp, right? For some of the figures, they will be must haves, others not so much. Although I'm sure I'll pick up a set for my daughter, if I can find them. I'm betting these will fly off the shelves compared to other licensed series. Also, a lot of these look easy to feel for, so that should make things interesting. Quote
Robert8 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 (edited) Here are my thoughts on this series Maleficent: The "Mistress all Evil" is actually a pretty decent minifigure. Her headdress looks really accurate to the character. Her staff.... well, not so much but in this case it's not a bad thing. I hope she has double sided face with a menacing/angry expression. 8/10 Cheshire Cat: Kudos to whoever had the idea of releasing him as a minifigure. His moulded head looks really wood. I wonder if this opens the door for more animals to be transformed into bipedal minifigures in future series (Rafiki, Timon, Pumbaa, Dumbo?). 8/10 Mr. Incredible: The Incredibles 2 is coming soon so it's not surprising to get him in this series. But, as others have pointed out, he looks like Dash. He is kinda plain overall. 6/10 Little Green Man: He is probably the most accurate of them all. His moulded head is amazing. This is meant to be the army builder in this series and, luckily for LEGO, a cost saver. 9/10 Minnie: The best part is her dress piece, which I think is plastic, like the S15 Ballerina's tutu. Other than that, she looks creepy. Like Mickey on drag. 4/10 Mickey: Oddly, he is most meh minifigure in the wave. And he looks creepy. The long legs make him look like someone wearing a costume. No accessory for him is weird and enhances the meh effect. 3/10 Peter Pan: He looks a lot like Shaggy, and I think it's because they gave him long legs. Other than that, it's an average minifigure. Nice hairpiece though. 7/10 Genie. Oh boy... This is the worst of the line and a contender for worst CMF ever. He needed a moulded head, because his a Jinn, not a human. And you can see how different his face compared to humans like Aladdin and Jasmin. LEGO probably chose to gave him a normal head after all the criticism for the Simpsons series. There is nothing interesting about him. 0/10 Ursula: I think she is the best minifigure in the wave. Her new tentacles piece looks fantastic and her hairpiece is pretty accurate. I think she needed a moulded head because she is a squid, not a human but there is no harm in this case. 9/10 Ariel: The only Disney Princess in this series is a very good minifigure. Her hairpiece is amazing but her accessories are like... wtf? 8/10 Sticht: He is clearly one of the highlights of this series and..... he is clearly missing Lilo, so this is biggest hint that Disney Series 2 is going to happen. His headmould is amazing! 9/10 Aladdin: Very good minifigure overall. His accessory is pretty accurate and his hairpiece is amazing. 8/10 Capitan Hook: I know he is human but he totally needed a moulded head. I mean c'mon! He looks even weirder because Peter Pan is there too and they gave the same head piece, which is totally inaccurate if you compare them. Maybe they could have tried with a new head that looks like a regular lego head at the top (and therefore allows to attach regular LEGO hairpieces to it) but with a extended chin and nose. Disney likes to draw the villains with sharper lines to make them look more menacing (with the exceptions of Madame Medusa and Ursula). Sadly, that effect was lost in translation to LEGO in this case (On the other hand, Maleficent looks very good). He is my biggest disappointment in the line because Hook is one of my favorite Disney characters. 2/10 Daisy: aka Donald in drag. Nothing special here. She looks kida meh. Her head looks creepy. She and Donald look better than Mickey and Minnie 4/10 Donald. Creepy ad well. I wonder if this headmould is going to return in the future as one of Donald's nephews. It would need just a cap, and apparently there is a hole in this head, so it work. 4/10 Buzz: He needed a moulded head, because he is toy, not a human. If you compare him with the humans in the movie (Andy, her mon, her sister, ...) there is noticeable that Buzz don't have a regular human head shape (Actually I think only the Shepherd Girl has it). Other than that, nice cost saver. 6/10 Syndrome. I barely remember this guy, but I guess it was included to increase the playability. Oddest inclusion for sure. Even more, than the Cheshire Cat. That been said, he looks very good. Her hairpiece is amazing and his outfit is pretty accurate. This is the level of accuracy I expected for all the minifigures in this line. 8/10 Alice: Her face looks odd but ok. She is average minifigure but her hairpiece is beautiful. The bottle makes her look like she is drunk. I wonder if she was another accessory but it's unlikely as all of them have only 1 in this series. 6/10 Edited March 1, 2016 by Robert8 Quote
8BrickMario Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 (edited) I don't understand your molded-head logic. The nonhumans still have human heads, and they aren't incredibly exaggerated. Genie with a molded head might not be much better, since it would probably be oversized. And to those saying Bob looks like Dash, that's to be expected. He's his father. Syndrome was a nice choice for a pair, since he's the film's antagonist, but I hope to see the rest of the hero family, Frozone, and Edna. I think I spoke too soon yesterday, so here are my more thought-out opinions. Maleficent: Seeing as her robe is all black, the printing is obviously subtle, but it still looks sorta dull. The face still feels too cut-off by the shaping. The horns are excellent. Syndrome: The face is a bit goofy, but then, so is Syndrome. A very accurate figure, and a nice product. Alice: I want to love her, but feel that the hairpiece exposes far too much of the head. Being a favorite book of mine, I'll need her, but I'm not sold on the neck up. Buzz: Simply put, the face loses its effectiveness by being a minifigure. Buzz and Woody are toys, and should be exceptions to the standard-head rule to fully look proper. Hook: That hat/hair piece is excellently molded, and a new hook is nice, but the face is just not right. Genie: The head just doesn't work. The ears look too long, and the piece doesn't blend well. I'd love a Robin Williams minifigure, but this isn't doing it for me. Cheshire Cat: While I can't say I like this design (Burton's was one thing the film got right), it's still colorful and wacky and looks surprisingly good for a bipedal version. Ursula: Still my number-one favorite, combining my love for octopi and witches, and the molded torso incorporated into the legs is just the icing on the cake. pittpenguin123 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 could buzz be based of the TV show of his? when he took off his purple hood he had a normal head not a long one that dome shaped like people be leaved he did for a wile when toy story came out. Quote
telaruhn Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 The faces may be weird-looking because they don't have noses. But it's not like that's a new thing... Regardless, I definitely support the use of a regular minifigure head for all the non-alien, non-animal humanoids, especially since that allows for their hairpieces/hats to be separate. And they just feel more compatible with LEGO compared to the Simpsons or non-standard heads in general... On another note, I can't quite tell from the photo if any short legs have printing on them. The Cheshire Cat uses the dual-molded legs from the Simpsons, but I'm not seeing any other stripes... Also wondering which parts will be soft rubber instead of hard ABS... I am hoping none, but Genie's might be because of the hole at the top... Quote
8BrickMario Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Also wondering which parts will be soft rubber instead of hard ABS... I am hoping none, but Genie's might be because of the hole at the top... It doesn't have to be; there have been ABS hairpieces with pinholes, too, like the braided hair, Calamity Drone hair, and pigtails. Cheshire's tail will be rubber, and Hook's headgear and maybe Stitch's head look like a likely candidates. Quote
Sarah Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Oh boy.... this doesn't look good.... Especially the Genie and Hook Could this be the worst series to date? My kids will LOVE it. I'm wondering if it will be out before Easter so I can get some for Easter baskets. Mr. Incredible doesn't look big enough. My husband and I think "Dash" when we see that figure. Quote

fred67 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Alice looks so weird to me. The regular minifig head makes it seem like she's as big as Ursula This is a problem with skinny little Disney princesses... they might make good minidolls, but not minifigures, and there's really nothing you can do to fix it. I'm OK with it, though - it's LEGO and it looks like LEGO, yet the characters are recognizable. Mr. Incredible doesn't look big enough. Yup... as I said the other day, I thought it was Dash at first, and after reading a number of other responses, I see I'm not alone. Also, every series have people who hate it - but you can't take any critical reaction to the series as hate. As is always the case, a lot of us wish they'd taken a different approach. I see a lot of people loving on the Buzz Lightyear, for instance, and while I will admit it's cool and really well done, there's already Buzz and LGM figures out there, so why waste the potential of what they could have done for this series rehashing two figures that have already been released? Especially when so many princesses are missing - counterparts to figures that are already there... Aladdin gets Genie, but not Jasmine; Pan gets Hook, but not Wendy or Tinkerbell; Malificent doesn't get Aurora, Stitch doesn't get Lilo... and notice something all the missing figures have in common? But I will get a box of these - hopefully getting three complete series. I know I want a complete series, and my Mom is a huge Disney fan and would love a number of those figures. My daughter wants the Cheshire cat. There's a lot to like here, but being critical and wishing it had gone a different way is not "hating." Quote

Its LEGO and it looks like LEGO. Quote

I wonder if this opens the door for more animals to be transformed into bipedal minifigures in future series (Rafiki, Timon, Pumbaa, Dumbo?). 8/10 Not sure about that, I re-watched the cheshire cat scenes in the film and while he does lounge about on that branch, he also walks on two feet in the scene and so its not a massive stretch to have him as a minifigure. My guess, hope even, is that Lego would stick to animal characters who are predominantly bipedal. But who knows what will happen next... Quote

deskp Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 (edited) I don't think Genie needed a new head like some do, but it would be better if his eyes was moved up a bit and the eyebrows were printed on his 'bald cap' Edited March 1, 2016 by deskp Quote
8BrickMario Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Agreed. While it would have decreased the usability of the head, the effect would be much nicer, giving Genie a proper chin and ear proportions. Quote
BrickFit26 Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 I don't like the way the Genie looks at all. I think it would have looked better if he was given a moulded head. Quote
