strangely Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 1x4 works better in my opinion. I mean I can see how it'll look a bit flat, but in fairness minifigures from the side almost always look too flat, so I'm unaffected. In the video it does look like it slightly sticks out on the front and back, makes me wonder if that's possible to do on a physical piece. I mean when you stick a minifigure on a plate there is room ahead and behind the feet, so conceivably they could make the piece thicker to better create the look of a dress. I'm not sure they'd actually do that or have ever done that though. Quote
BrickOn Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 I really don't mind what piece (new or old) Lego uses, I am just happy to be getting a different style of dress, I hope that this means we get two different princesses wearing it in this series, together with the series 15 queen and maybe Nexo appearance and there'll be a decent new wardrobe for the minifig ladies with the possibility of ballroom scenes :-) Quote

While I would prefer the old piece, I would still enjoy a new piece in its place. And I would love to see it used on some Disney Princesses. The more variety we get with this, the better. The Series 15 Queen is also getting the Calamity Drone hair in a new color: I could see this hair in brown and the skirt piece both used for Belle in the yellow ball gown: I sincerely hope we see it. I hope we get Beast as well, and I mean the Beast form, not the prince. Edited October 26, 2015 by x105Black Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 I agree. While I would prefer the old piece, I would still enjoy a new piece in its place. I don't think the old piece is going anywhere. This new piece refers to a very specific type of dress. The other piece is actually much more versatile. So I don't thing it'll be replaced. But, I do love this new dress piece. It's about time. And I too really hope for Ballgown Belle! And Beast!Beast. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
8BrickMario Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 I'm just hoping for a side view to finally settle this "new piece" debate. Logically, it doesn't make sense for it to be new, and I'm not sure the mold has been retired, but a new dress brick would mean a better piece. Quote
Darkdragon Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 It seems to me that it would more likely be something completely new, like they did for Queen Amidala rather than that silly curved brick which would look horrible. Theough with the propensity for cloth skirts lately, perhaps a fluffy cloth dress could be the way it goes. Quote
8BrickMario Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 The magazine shows that it's a solid brick, and it's not contoured in the same way, appearing identical to the 2x4 curved brick from this angle. Perhaps the shape is different from the side and behind, but right not, it's unclear. Quote
Blakstone Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 It sounds like the dress in CMF Series 15 has the same dimensions as the piece from 2009. I hope that both it and any such ball gowns in this Disney series but a new mold for a better clutch power in the torso. My biggest complaint with the current slope piece for a dress is that the minifigures come into which I lift one from some studs. It would also be nice if all the ladies were the same height as minifigs with legs. Quote

It would also be nice if all the ladies were the same height as minifigs with legs. We have only seen a depictions of the piece, but the one image confirmed as belonging to an upcoming minifigure was only depicted from the front, and it is impossible to accurately discern whether the piece is 1-4 or 2-4. A cartoon depiction shows it to be 1-4. My opinion on the matter, based on the evidence we have seen is that the piece will be 1-4, and therefore not the exact same dimensions as the previous part. I further speculate (this time with no evidence to back up my claim) that the piece will have some minifigure grip. This speculation is due to the issue you listed, namely, that it sticks better to the ground than to the minifig. ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
Sven F Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 In the video it sure looks like a 1x4, and I thought the old piece was way too bulky, but now that i tried it out, I no longer think so. I admit there's a possibility that it could work. Though we are probably still getting a new piece. Quote
Darkdragon Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Interesting, the slopes definitely help. I still don't care for it myself, but it might grow on me. The magazine shows that it's a solid brick, and it's not contoured in the same way, appearing identical to the 2x4 curved brick from this angle. Perhaps the shape is different from the side and behind, but right not, it's unclear. I didn't mean it would be that dress, obviously that's not the same way a princess-type dress is set up. I just meant it would be better (to me) for a real new piece and not just a curved brick. Quote
Ultron Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 I wish we could just get pieces like Queen Amidala's. I hate the slope piece that Lego has been using for years to demonstrate "a dress". Quote

Though we are probably still getting a new piece. Lovely Renders! Even if the piece ends up being 2-4, it will need to be a new piece. One with less grip on the bottom, and hopefully much more on the top. Also, if it is 2-4, I would expect that to be only on the bottom, lacking the 2-2 connection possibilities of the previous mould. But again, it looks like it'll be 1-4, and I'll be shocked if it turns out to be otherwise. I too wish we could see some moulded dresses as per the Friend's minidolls. I think that's their one advantage over mini figures (they fall short for everything else IMO. ) ~Insectoid Aristocrat Quote
x105Black Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I don't think it will need to be a new piece if it's a 2 x 4. They could surely use that same piece. But I'm sure most of us would prefer a new one, since it would solve the clutch issues. Quote
8BrickMario Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) Oh, from those demonstration angles, that piece looks terrible. Maybe a 1x4 would be better after all. I just can't see it being anything other than a brick. Using leg pegs would immediately render the mold as one-use, and a 1x4 could be useful. The clutch would be severely imbalanced, but I doubt it would technically be a leg alternative. On a side note, I thought Calamity Drone's hair was Cool Yellow. Is the lighting making it seem Brick Yellow? Edited October 27, 2015 by 8BrickMario Quote
Actor Builder Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I think that the usage of that piece would be weird. If the remolded it, that would be even weirder. I don't much care for it. But whatever. Quote

As for the old regular CMFs, unless LEGO is doing another rehashing of the whole line, the existed characters may not use any of those dress in the future. The Fairytale Princess, which should be equvalent to Macy, was the clear example that LEGO didn't plan to do a new dress "in time". It seems to me that it would more likely be something completely new, like they did for Queen Amidala rather than that silly curved brick which would look horrible. Theough with the propensity for cloth skirts lately, perhaps a fluffy cloth dress could be the way it goes. But to me, not just cause it's licensed, the details also don't look proper for generic LEGO figures. Nor could it be able to fit in a blind bag.Interestingly some may have seen this kind of idea in China clone brands before LEGO stick to slope skirts for years. Quote
x105Black Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 The Amidala dress could fit in a blind bag. It is as tall as the Hot Dog Guy's suit from Series 13, and as wide as the Plant headgear from Series 14. It should fit, but it would be pretty obvious (which is fine by me). Quote

nightshade Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 If this series is anything remotely like the Kubrick Disney series, I'll be happy. Both on ongoing character selection and on keeping a basic aesthetic on a lot of them. Is it too much to fantasize about a Lego Rocketeer? Sure, Mickey and princesses make the kids happy, but some cult characters will pull in a lot of adults. Quote

Soupperson1 Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I say it's more likely we'll get minifigure versions of Elsa, Ariel and Cinderella over Belle, especially since they're popular, they haven't been minifigures yet and they'll need no moulds Quote

I definitely see them making Cinderella over Belle though. Quote

They look kinda weird on regular minifigs because they're not made out of hard plastic like normal hairpieces are. Therefore, I think if they are going to do Elsa, Ariel, or Cinderella, they may have to create new hair molds for them. Quote
