Brickity Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) Does Alice count as a princess? Edited February 27, 2016 by Otherworld Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) Currently, there are eleven official Disney Princesses: Snow White Cinderella Aurora Ariel Belle Jasmine Pocahontas Mulan Tiana Rapunzel Merida Note that Elsa and Anna aren't officially on the list yet, though they're obvious shoo-ins; they haven't been officially coronated as part of the line yet, but it's pretty much a given they'll both be added soon. Their absence as yet is why their LEGO DP sets have also had the Frozen logo as well as the DP logo, when the sets for the other princesses haven't borne their respective movies' logos. x105Black Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) I think that the term "princess" is limiting for Disney's marketing of their products to young girls. Alice, not being a princess, is excluded, along with other characters like Wendy, Esmeralda (who was previously included in the princess lineup, but later removed), Kida (who, incidentally, is a princess in her movie), and more. This means that many quality characters get left out and are not merchandised nearly as well. In fact, seeing Alice in this series is somewhat surprising because of this trend. Here's more information on the princesses. Edited February 26, 2016 by x105Black Quote
BrickOn Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I don't know Alice in Wonderland has a big following, only today a line of Alice in Wonderland shoes went on sale and were sold out within 30 minutes and these were adult shoes... having said that their starwars line also sold out same day as well, that might relate more to the shoes. Anyway back to the pure speculation, personally I would expect to see the little mermaid, because she is IMO one of the more iconic princesses and she is Danish, I just can't see Lego over-looking her. Plus I am biased because she is my favourite and the only minidoll I own, I would much prefer her in minifigure format. Quote
Robert8 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) Snow White Cinderella Aurora Ariel Belle Jasmine Pocahontas Mulan Tiana Rapunzel Merida Given that we are already getting 2 characters from Aladdin I'd say Jasmine is not one of the princesses And I'd say Belle is out as a well since LEGO just released a set with her There is a rumor about Mulan with Mushu being on this series, so there only 1 princess left. I'd say it's Ariel Note that Elsa and Anna aren't officially on the list yet, though they're obvious shoo-ins; Anna is, but Elsa is not, as she is officially the queen, not a princess. Unless Disney is re-branding the franchise as "Disney Royalty" or something Edited February 26, 2016 by Robert8 Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) Anna is, but Elsa is not, as she is officially the queen, not a princess.Unless Disney is re-branding the franchise as "Disney Royalty" or something The requirements for inclusion in the Disney Princess line do not, curiously enough, include actually being a princess in-story (though obviously it certainly helps); note that Fa Mulan is a Disney Princess, but not actually a princess. Moreover, while Elsa ascends to become the queen in her story, she at least starts as a princess. A number of the other Disney Princesses are princesses only for part of their respective films; it's just that usually when that's the case, they start as non-princesses and finish as princesses, rather than the other way around. But there's nothing saying it can't be the other way around, and since (among other factors) Elsa is a princess for at least part of her story (unlike Mulan), it seems likely she'll be inducted eventually. That said, do we know whether the two princesses featured in this series will in fact be Disney Princesses (capital D, capital P), just plain old princesses, or both? There are actually a number of princesses in Disney movies who aren't officially Disney Princesses... Edited February 26, 2016 by Blondie-Wan Quote
BrickOn Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) hmmm x105Black just posted the link to the exact definition of the Disney Princesses line up, in their official Franchise... however do we have proof that whoever said there would be two princesses in the series was referring to actual Princesses, rather than the Disney's Princesses Franchise definition? x105Black Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 And I'd say Belle is out as a well since LEGO just released a set with her There is a rumor about Mulan with Mushu being on this series, so there only 1 princess left. I'd say it's Ariel But LEGO has not released a minifigure of Belle, so that shouldn't matter. I don't think we'll see her, though, as it's been hinted that Belle and Beast will not appear. I forgot about the Mulan rumor, I suppose she and Ariel will be the 2 princesses. Quote

I agree, i also don't think belle or beast will be in this series. But Mulan and Ariel are 2 good choices to have. More so Mulan for me than Ariel. Quote
Boettner Builds Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 We better get Ariel! She could come with her tail and legs. She doesn't have to be in this series, just in one of the waves... Get it? A sea pun... Quote

Dragonlego27 Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 I have to say, Jasmine would probably be one if my most anticipated minifigures of a Disney wave just because TLG gave really not been that multicultural with their female faceprints through the years. Mulan and her little dragon sound pretty fun too. Here's to hoping the minifigures don't have weird eyes or something so they can't be used elsewhere. I have to say, I doubt Ariel would be as interesting to me as the rest of the Wave, as she seems relatively easy to make already, especially with that minidoll hairpiece. If you wanted her in flesh you could always use parts from the POTC mermaids as well. Quote

Definitely agree about the diversity though, they're getting better but Jasmine and Mulan minifigs would help and be really cool. Quote

More then that, I think these are going to sell really well not only to AFOLs but also just normal families because it's Disney and I think a lot of little girls are going to want their favorite Disney princesses as Minifigures. Put a display out of them at the Lego store while they are there buying other things and that will increase sales quite quickly once those little girls see them and beg their parents for em. Which if that is the case makes me wonder if they'll make it easier again by doing the pre-felt bags like they did at my store for Series 15 or just opening the bags and selling them as is to people who want guaranteed characters. Brickity Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 It would be nice to see chip and dale as accessories. But who would they come with? Quote

Pre-felt bags? Opening them? Sounds like cheating to me, last time I went to a lego store one of the employees helped me feel out what I wanted (I could have managed by myself but I don't mind the help either) and I saw the same employee helping kids later. That strategy makes more sense to me because it makes the customers feel more valued and like they've had better service, of course it does depend on how busy it is. Pre-felt bags or open bags might just just make them question the whole blind bag concept and it takes away from the fun of it, also if you are picking them up as an impulse purchase I guess its better for lego if you keep buying until you get your desired character. Good point. I was just thinking of kids not getting the ones they wanted and not necessarily just collectors. Also, for Series 15, they had pre-felt bags at my store sorted out and helped us find the ones they didn't have. They were not opened. Edited February 27, 2016 by Tech Artist Quote

My local shop has pre-felt packets, all labeled for people who want a specific one. Its a nice shop. Except I'm in England so no 2016 sets, apart from Nexo Knights Quote

Brickity Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 There is a department store here in Mexico called Liverpool, they open some bags and assemble certain amount of minifigs which they put on display for sale, but at the same time there are a lot of sealed bags. Can't wait to get my hands over these disney minifigs! :D Quote
