Blondie-Wan Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Unless I'm mistaken, this series makes Ariel the first character to appear in minifigure, minidoll and DUPLO figure versions. Quote
Jern92 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Mickey and his friends are truly scary. That was my first reaction too. It's like there's something wrong with those figures, something I can't quite put my finger on... Quote
Tech Artist Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) As for Mickey and Friends, yeah, they look....off. Not so much "scary" as "incredibly disconcerting". Some of these figs, I'll need to see better pictures or to see them IRL before I decide. I don't think the heads look bad. It's the bodies with the molded heads that look weird. I get they are supposed to be Lego but I just don't think the mix works well. Also, are these allowed to be sold above MSRP? I feel like these might go for more at Disney Parks then they would outside. Does anyone know if Disney sells the Lego Disney stuff inside their parks(besides Downtown Disney)? Not going there anytime soon, just curious. Edited February 29, 2016 by Tech Artist Quote

Maybe this hints at a mashup Beauty and the Beast/Lilo and Stitch movie in the future? Although the themes in the two movies are quite similar.... Quote
Robert8 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) Thank god you edited that post CM4Sci.... Don't give them ideas! Everyone else is in pairs but them. Does anyone know if Disney sells the Lego Disney stuff inside their parks(besides Downtown Disney)? Not going there anytime soon, just curious. I've seen Minifigures being sold above MSRP at any number of places. And Disney does sell Disney-based LEGO sets, when available, at appropriate locales within the parks. I'm sure these will be there (at least for a brief period), and yeah, they'll probably be more expensive there, but perhaps not. Quote
BrickSantorum Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I said take that rumor with a grain of salt, but whatever. Right, but you also said that a month after you said that Jafar wouldn't be part of the series. And this was also about a month after you said that Two-Face or the Ventriloquist would definitely be in a DC Super Heroes set this summer. I'm assuming that you're not someone who just makes up rumors for attention, but whoever you're getting your information from is pretty unreliable. Ultimately, I guess it doesn't really matter if you're unintentionally passing along bad information. It's not like having advance notice of something that's just going to be officially revealed eventually really does us any good. But it does get people's hopes up, and that's kind of lame. Anyway... Back on topic: something that's NOT lame is this series of minifigs! The only one that doesn't quite work for me is the Genie, but that may change once I get to see him in the flesh... er, ABS. I think they did a great job of casting a wide net across Disney's huge range of properties. If it sells even halfway decent, this could easily be an ongoing annual series. There are literally dozens of A-list characters to headline it, and so many cool supporting characters for collectors. (The Cheshire Cat is literally one of my favorite Disney characters; so glad he's in the first series!) Quote
Actor Builder Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I think the problem I have with these is the scaling. Disney characters have very weird proportions, relative to each other and humans. Minifigures also have very odd proportions relative to humans. I think the scaling is just too drastic of a switch from odd shaped humanoid to squashed down humanoid. Quote
notpennysboat Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 This image (from a front angle) was on The Brick Fan website about 20 minutes ago, and just been deleted. Why no Flounder or Sebastian for Ariel ? Even a fork or a pipe would be better. Two identical accessories in the same series ? The Aladdin lamp is grrr, some bread would be better (or Abu). A short gold stick would be better for Maleficent scepter (like the wizzard CMF)... Ok I like the series (not all but still a little) but LEGO made more specific details with the Simpsons accessories Quote
Blondie-Wan Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 (edited) So, this series does indeed have Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy, but no Goofy (and no Pluto, apparently). I'm guessing each series will have some but not all of the core "Mickey & friends" characters, probably always including a version of Mickey himself, and the other such characters will vary from series to series. I know we don't even have Series 1 yet and Series 2 will probably come out a full year later (if at all), but I'd bet there will indeed be a Series 2, and that it'll have Goofy along with "Sorceror's Apprentice" Mickey. rob-ot5000 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Right, but you also said that a month after you said that Jafar wouldn't be part of the series. And this was also about a month after you said that Two-Face or the Ventriloquist would definitely be in a DC Super Heroes set this summer. To be fair, Two-Face or Ventriloquist, or even Jafar, may still appear in the Ra's Al Ghul set or the fabled 4th Civil War set. Now that I think about it, Jafar will DEFINITELY be in the 4th Civil War set, because: Disney. (The Cheshire Cat is literally one of my favorite Disney characters; so glad he's in the first series!) Me too!! I'm so very glad that he's more than just an accessory! Quote
Jbricks Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Disappointed... I had REALLY high hopes, but there is so much wrong here. This series was so big it needed two new slots, but wasted one on the rehash PP alien? Couldn't give Woody with normal head instead? No good accessories. Printed tiles... 2 lamps... No new accessory molds. Genie looks bad, should have just molded the whole head. Syndrome's faces is too wacky, Alice's is very plain, but that's not a big deal. Hook unfortunately has a printed nose overhang over his mouth. Oh who am I kidding? This is the only chance to get these characters, probably. I'm gonna end up with at least half the series. Quote
CM4Sci Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 My guess is that the next Mickey will be the wizard Mickey (what's it called, Fantasia?) The top of his head has a hole that allows a bow to be put in for Minnie. Minnie and Daisy have the same bow piece, which is why I'm assuming that. Quote

"Sorcerer's Apprentice" Mickey is absolutely one of my favorite iterations, but I'm not looking forward to feeling conflicted about it. Maybe those particular ones will grow on me. Quote
Robert8 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 but I'd bet ther will indeed be a Series 2, and that it'll have Goofy along with "Sorceror's Apprentice" Mickey. Snow White and (at least) one of the dwarfs are almost mandatory for Series 2! Quote

Why no Flounder or Sebastian for Ariel ? Even a fork or a pipe would be better. Two identical accessories in the same series ? The Aladdin lamp is grrr, some bread would be better (or Abu). I imagine it's the usual limitation on new molds for a single series. It seems higher for "CMFs" than for any other line or theme, but it's still there, and nearly every figure here has at least one new mold. They probably couldn't do Flounder, Abu, etc. without going over budget for the series. Multiples of a given accessory (whether existing or new) is hardly unusual for a Minifigures series, too; we've had them since the beginning, when the Forestman and the Tribal Hunter each carried the same bow and the same quiver, way back in Minifigures Series 1. That said, the dual lamps here do seem a bit odd, given that they're both apparently meant to be the same lamp... Quote
Jbricks Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Snow White and (at least) one of the dwarfs are almost mandatory for Series 2! I doubt they'd do more than one dwarf. This series has a max of two characters per property. And frankly, it'd be too monotonous Quote
Freakshow Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I like all of them with the regular heads, and def Stitch. This series is going to be ROUGH on my wallet. Quote
CM4Sci Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Hook unfortunately has a printed nose overhang over his mouth. Nope! Quote
Agent 86 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 A nice mix of characters. I think they generally look good, although I'm a little puzzled by the lack of moulded heads for Genie and Buzz. I'm guessing that any human or humanoid character will get a regular Lego head and only assorted creatures will get a moulded head? Is this series still rumoured to be released around the same time as a Disney D2C set? Quote
Clone OPatra Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 This series is very disappointing to me as well. The utter lack of accessories makes no sense - The Simpsons series 1 had new moulds for every single character, but still managed accessories, albeit mostly in the form of prints. But at least that's something. What's even more disappointing than the lack of accessories and the real killer for me is how little these really resemble their characters. Genie, who is an absolute favorite of mine as a film character, looks nothing like himself. He doesn't even look good as something else, just strange. The only ones I really feel myself drawn towards here are Stitch and Maleficint. Cheshire Cat, Ursula, and a couple others look fine too, but I've never much cared for them. Quote
