In 1992, LEGO released what was to be one of the most iconic non-ship Pirates sets ever: the Imperial Trading Post.

The unique mix og Imperials, Pirates and civilians in what was to be the largest Imperial ground structure ever made for a truly imposing and spectacular set that has since been among the most craved for classic Pirates sets among collectors.

I set out to remake it with modern look, parts, colours and minifigures. I aimed to make it compatible with the 2009 Imperial Soldiers sets (to which it can actually be attached!) while also incorporating elements from the 2015 Pirates line - also while, of course, remaining faithful to the original set.

Without further ado, here she is:

In some ways, I actually like this better than the original. The colors are more subdued, which I think is a definite improvement over the original. Even as a kid, I thought the yellow made it look like the main thing the Imperial Trading Post traded in was hotdogs and mustard.

I also like the redo of the little merchant ship. That was one of my all time favorite Lego designs, and it's nice to see it looking a little more modern.

Thanks for the kind words. pirate_satisfied.gif

The ship is my own favorite part, as I allowed myself to steer a lot more away from the original blueprint with that one.

This "modern" imperial trading post is amazing! I love the look of it and this REALLY should be made into a set again! Great job especially on that boat, I love how you used the triangle sail from the imperial flagship pirate_classic.gifpir_laugh2.gifpirate_oh3.gifpirate_tong.gifpirate_wink.gif

It's super nostalgic, perfect job. I have recently bought the set for $100 but a used one and with no mini figures or ship. I wish I had the red coat admiral and the unique sails of the ship. Will you upload it in LEGO ideas? Somet6imes they re-issue legendary sets. (For example Black Sea Barrakuda in 2002.

Thanks, guys. pirate_satisfied.gif

They won't accept interpretations of existing sets, sadly.

I got one on eBay about a month ago for (£8.50 + £3.20) £11.70 GBP.

That is not that bad! I might copy you on this one pirate_wink.gif, Because this remake is the bees knees!! pirate_laugh_new.gif

oh wait one last thing! what is the piece number to that baseplate?

It's 2552.

The same baseplate comes in multiple colours as its used in lots of other sets outside the Pirate range too.

The same coloured one is used for Fort Eldorado and a slightly different one for Rock Island Refuge.

It seems your creation is based on Port Royale - the most famous Caribbian fort of redcoats (The British). Bluecoats also had something of the kind - Legorado fort. and later Western fort (1997). I would call bluecoats base Tartuga - the most famouse French fort in the Caribbien. How will you name your port? It combines a few generations of LEGO pirates.

THANK YOU! I'm already having one ordered

It depends on how much you change it. Everybody is inspired with existing sets. So try and good luck.

I did try, they rejected it. pirate_cry4.gif

About the baseplate, I definetely recommend getting one. I myself got 3 variations of it a few years ago, when the price was a bit lower. I wish LEGO still did raised baseplates, they can really make a build look that much more imposing and grand.

Yeah the baseplates made the model look soo "complete" but I suppose it takes away some Lego building maybe? And that could be why they don't make them anymore

Ooh, redcoats! I remember oogling over those sets back in '07 or so... Your MOC looks good bytheway!

So your a redcoat fan I see... I'm just kidding

You're lucky to have the 3 variations of the raised baseplate. Is one of them "a mirror" variation? -if you put them together, the slopes will be on 2 different sides. I have 2 - different colours but not a mirror variation. By the way I'll visit Billund LEGOLAND pretty soon. how many times have you been in that LEGO fans' Mecca?

I don't think you can get the raised baseplates with the slope on the opposite side.

They appear to all have the slope on the left side but are available in different colours depending on the set.

As far as I know, they're all the same layout, just different colors, as The Imperial Soldier said. There's the grey stone one like in this MOC, the same thing but with green stone which came with the Rock Island Refuge, and one that was all grass and rocks, that came with the old castle sets.
