Hive Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 In 1992, LEGO released what was to be one of the most iconic non-ship Pirates sets ever: the Imperial Trading Post. The unique mix og Imperials, Pirates and civilians in what was to be the largest Imperial ground structure ever made for a truly imposing and spectacular set that has since been among the most craved for classic Pirates sets among collectors. I set out to remake it with modern look, parts, colours and minifigures. I aimed to make it compatible with the 2009 Imperial Soldiers sets (to which it can actually be attached!) while also incorporating elements from the 2015 Pirates line - also while, of course, remaining faithful to the original set. Without further ado, here she is: Quote
Cousarmy0001 Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 In some ways, I actually like this better than the original. The colors are more subdued, which I think is a definite improvement over the original. Even as a kid, I thought the yellow made it look like the main thing the Imperial Trading Post traded in was hotdogs and mustard. I also like the redo of the little merchant ship. That was one of my all time favorite Lego designs, and it's nice to see it looking a little more modern. Quote
Hive Posted April 2, 2016 Author Posted April 2, 2016 Thanks for the kind words. The ship is my own favorite part, as I allowed myself to steer a lot more away from the original blueprint with that one. Quote
azog Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 This "modern" imperial trading post is amazing! I love the look of it and this REALLY should be made into a set again! Great job especially on that boat, I love how you used the triangle sail from the imperial flagship Quote
Staslegomaster Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 It's super nostalgic, perfect job. I have recently bought the set for $100 but a used one and with no mini figures or ship. I wish I had the red coat admiral and the unique sails of the ship. Will you upload it in LEGO ideas? Somet6imes they re-issue legendary sets. (For example Black Sea Barrakuda in 2002. Quote
Hive Posted April 3, 2016 Author Posted April 3, 2016 Thanks, guys. Will you upload it in LEGO ideas? Somet6imes they re-issue legendary sets. (For example Black Sea Barrakuda in 2002. They won't accept interpretations of existing sets, sadly. Quote
Sigolf Brimabane Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Proof that raised baseplates work with modern bricks as well Det ser meget pænt ud! Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 That is a fine updated version of that classic set Quote
azog Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Does anyone know how much that baseplate is going for? Just curious Quote
The Imperial Soldier Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Does anyone know how much that baseplate is going for? Just curious I got one on eBay about a month ago for (£8.50 + £3.20) £11.70 GBP. Quote
azog Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 I got one on eBay about a month ago for (£8.50 + £3.20) £11.70 GBP. That is not that bad! I might copy you on this one , Because this remake is the bees knees!! Quote
azog Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 oh wait one last thing! what is the piece number to that baseplate? Quote
Staslegomaster Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Thanks, guys. They won't accept interpretations of existing sets, sadly. It depends on how much you change it. Everybody is inspired with existing sets. So try and good luck. Quote
The Imperial Soldier Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 oh wait one last thing! what is the piece number to that baseplate? It's 2552. The same baseplate comes in multiple colours as its used in lots of other sets outside the Pirate range too. The same coloured one is used for Fort Eldorado and a slightly different one for Rock Island Refuge. Quote
Staslegomaster Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 It seems your creation is based on Port Royale - the most famous Caribbian fort of redcoats (The British). Bluecoats also had something of the kind - Legorado fort. and later Western fort (1997). I would call bluecoats base Tartuga - the most famouse French fort in the Caribbien. How will you name your port? It combines a few generations of LEGO pirates. Quote

About the baseplate, I definetely recommend getting one. I myself got 3 variations of it a few years ago, when the price was a bit lower. I wish LEGO still did raised baseplates, they can really make a build look that much more imposing and grand. Quote

Yeah the baseplates made the model look soo "complete" but I suppose it takes away some Lego building maybe? And that could be why they don't make them anymore Quote
gotoAndLego Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 I would like the raised baseplate if they had studs on the sides or allowed for the big ugly rock pieces so you could make them look a little custom. Quote
iammac Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Ooh, redcoats! I remember oogling over those sets back in '07 or so... Your MOC looks good bytheway! Quote

Staslegomaster Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 You're lucky to have the 3 variations of the raised baseplate. Is one of them "a mirror" variation? -if you put them together, the slopes will be on 2 different sides. I have 2 - different colours but not a mirror variation. By the way I'll visit Billund LEGOLAND pretty soon. how many times have you been in that LEGO fans' Mecca? Quote

They appear to all have the slope on the left side but are available in different colours depending on the set. Quote
Cousarmy0001 Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 (edited) As far as I know, they're all the same layout, just different colors, as The Imperial Soldier said. There's the grey stone one like in this MOC, the same thing but with green stone which came with the Rock Island Refuge, and one that was all grass and rocks, that came with the old castle sets. Hive Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 Yeah, those 3 are the variations I have. And thanks again for the kind words, people! Quote
