Governor Mister Phes Posted May 3, 2005 Governor Posted May 3, 2005 I would also like a better in forum proportion. Members should use a little bit less polls and avoid as much as possible multiple subjects on the same (or more or less) topic!! What is wrong with polls? Quote
Sarg_Kulo Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 That what I wanna know. You'd have to go through the thread (which could be 10+ pages) looking for answer if you didn't use them *wacko* That would be hell for my RC contest ;) Quote
xwingyoda Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 Guys I'm not saying that polls are useless/bad per se, they usually tend to mix up with another subject, which makes things a little blurry and confusing - just look the SW theme for example ;) Polls are necessary for contest (duh) and can be really usefull when separated from a subject that is currently under discussion ;) Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 7, 2005 Governor Posted May 7, 2005 I haven't been looking at the Star Wars theme however! I've only been looking at the Pirate Polls and from what I've noticed they seem quite fine. In fact I might go and create another soon to celebrate! Quote
eDeevo Posted May 7, 2005 Posted May 7, 2005 You guys (and gals?) are doing great. I love the fact that admins & mods are involved in posts throughout the forum (as opposed to just being a Police force like other forums *cough* fbtb *cough*). That may or may not be a result of the people actually posting in here (less prone to bashing others, 'hurt' feelings, immature, etc.), but I think you admins & mods are a major contributor to keeping things going here, which is a wonderful thing ;) . I'll have to do some thinking concerning potential changes that may benefit the forum here in the future, but for now I believe you all are doing great! Life is G-o-o-d. Quote
xwingyoda Posted May 7, 2005 Posted May 7, 2005 Thank you Ed for your kind words :') We (admins & mods) are definitly trying our best for having a real community of exchange... We want that every member feels confortable here and enjoys his/her time with us ;) Please give us your thoughts on changes/improvements. Quote
Sarg_Kulo Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 HOw about telling the mods to stop changing their post counts. Especially the ones who acuse of spamming Quote
ApophisV Posted May 9, 2005 Author Posted May 9, 2005 Once again: The Mods can't change their counts, just the Admins have this ability! (Me e.g. *twisted* ) An if you really don't care about post counts (as you told us in the other thread) why do you complain ? If it doesn't matter it... shouldn't matter! :P Quote
Sarg_Kulo Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 I've tried explaining. But no one understands. SO I've stopped explaining, and no one understands Quote
Vader Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 Indeed to me the post counts are just useless, in fact im all for getting rid of them all together. I only changed mine because i was having a laugh with another admin member, i still know what my proper count is and i can return it to normal at any time. I think its just stupid to be taking all this time to talk about post counts :( Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 10, 2005 Governor Posted May 10, 2005 There must be a better rewards system than post counting. I've seen on other message boards where users can rate each post on a scale of 1 to 5 to vote on how useful the information was. This Piratey message board is very interesting indeed: http://piratehaven.net/phpbb2/index.php The users can purchase inventory items that do various things from pieces of 8 the users get by posting or creating threads. There's heaps and heaps of stuff! Except I'm too tired to list it all so I'm going to bed instead. Quote
Vader Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 Well its a good idea but i dont think people should be able to rate each others posts, ive seen these systems before and ive always found that you get groups of people who stay together and give each other good ratings but then treat others that are not in the group badly. :( Quote
xwingyoda Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 I totally agree with you Vader with this one. We are a community and we intend to stay one ;) Rating each others posts could ruin the nice atmosohere of these boards. Just look at the recent past exemples and some reactions concerning off-topic and number of posts... Also a reward system can create strange feelings on these boards. I also which to remind you guys that we are a diverse community dealing with a lot of different characters and ages. Quote
Jipay Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 rating people comments is also requiring a lot of efforts... It's not made for our lazy members Quote
The Middleman Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 I think that removing the post count view on posts would eliminate the competition for posts and therefore eliminate all 'spam', which would make the rating system unnecessary. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 11, 2005 Governor Posted May 11, 2005 rating people comments is also requiring a lot of efforts... It's not made for our lazy members That's what I was thinking when I wrote it. Actually the idea came from the LEGO.com message boards so that's why it sucks so much. Actually I prefer the Pirate Haven Message Board concept, although that would take heaps to impliment. Quote
