Me? When I first began with Lego when I was 2-ish, my Mum and Dad bought me and my sister (2 years my senior) a 5+ Build 'n' Store Chest for Christmas, followed by some roofing tiles and wheels and diggers over the next year. Up until the age of 9 I was given sets regularly for Birthdays and Christmases...then the supply almost dried up - the odd set over the next 5 years, but it was in 2000 that I bought my first set (Red Planet Protector)...in 2003 I recieved my RIS 2.0 for Christmas, a comination of presents and savings...no Lego followed, other than 2 castles of eBay, until 2006, bar an RCX and technic motor...Christmas 2006 indulged me with a Fenris Wolf set and a handful of Adventurers minifigs with an elephant, both of which I had specifically requested. My Birthday this year brought me an Enchanted Island, followed by my BSB, bought with B'day money - now I anticipate 3 Crossbow Attacks for Christmas this year, with possibly an SES *sweet* ... my once-best-friend also claims he has a pile of Lego scorpions for me for Christmas, but I doubt these claims...

So, yeah - I do get Lego ATM, but only on request - my parents fully back my hobby (not financially though :-| , but I don't mind)... ;-)

People wouldn't dare buy me lego as a gift because 1. It's highly likely they would pick something I don't like and 2. If they did pick something I really liked, it'd most likely be something I already had, being a well and truly fully grown adult with my own income.

i wish they did!

my gf's giving me a set this christmas, hopefully, the scuderia ferrari truck set (the big one) :D

I'm getting that too...except from my Mom not my girlfriend X-D

I'm 34, and there's no shame in the LEGO for me. Everyone knows I love it, collect it, and play with it, but they assume (wrongly, I must say) that I already have everything, or that I don't want more. Ironically, it's people who don't know me very well who have bought the most recent LEGO presents for me...my wife and other family members don't ever buy the LEGO for me.

I'm 35 and my wife, kids, parents, in-laws and maybe other family members will be buying sets. Some are wary of buying sets as they don't want to duplicate any I already have - so I keep reminding them that it doesn't matter if there are duplicates, Lego is Lego and I can never have enough of it.

I run into that a lot too. "I didn't know what to get you because I don't know what you already have." I keep telling them that it doesn't matter. It's all just bricks.

Now my son is old enough to start getting Lego sets for Christmas too, which is REALLY great, especially since his wish list overlaps with mine a bit.

Mom stopped buying Lego to me in 1994... Here's the story.

I got the set 8062-1 for Christmas in 1994.. I was 12 then and my kid sister started messing around with the case. So I yanked it from her shouting "this is my God, don't ever touch it again!".

I guess that was the last drop for mom, as she is kinda religious :-D

Well, my Dad doesn't buy me Lego, he just gives me money. My friends give me money. And my mum buys me Lego from her, and from my sister. :-P Of course, I buy Lego with all that money. :-D

i know when i receive LEGOs as presents it's hard, because it's always a surprise (i never ask for LEGOs as gifts), and it's never exactly the sets i want... so i take them, am happy, and content with them for at least the parts.

however, another problem comes when my GF gives buys me sets... then i feel obligated to keep the sets whole (and not break them up), because she wants to see that i liked what she got me, and that i didn't just part it out to sell on BL :-$ :-D

that's when it's tough for me - BM

Well, they sometimes do, especially my sister (she knows good what I want and what I already have). But I mostly get money to buy LEGO with (or games, or CD's). I asked this year some LEGO, my mom is going to buy some as presents. But I want it to be a suprise, I gave her a list for what I want and she's going to pick something out, that's way cooler than knowing what you're getting.

I sometimes get the comment: "aren't you a bit old for LEGO?" And I say: "I'm never to old to have a hobby and it's fun to play with. And I'm not making any noise with it? So? I WANT LEGO!" <3

No one EVER bought me any Lego sets before.. not when I was young, not now and i feel.. not ever at all.. :'-(

People closest to me knows abt my addiction to Lego but I never have a single gift of Lego before. I have been buying Lego with my own cash. Even my GF who have re-started my love for Lego last year never even bought me one before. She even say that I was being so gay coz she saw my Belville Advent Calendar in my room. My friends juz acknowledges my hobby as... just a hobby and will say "crazy", coz its not a common one in my country and race. its a sad sad world.

And i just hate it when my young nephews and nieces says "so old still play Lego!". *sing* arrgghhh

My parents used to get me LEGO every Christmas when I was younger, but as my tastes have gotten more particular and expensive, they have increasingly given me cash instead. I can't fault them at all, since they are paying for college tuition. *wub* Anyway, having cash means that I can wait for killer sales and get 1.5 to two times as much LEGO for the money.

Im thinking about giving my older brother a lego gift (he's in college now)

But not a new storebought one. Im thinking about getting togeather his old black falcon fortress castle set, sorting all the bricks and repacking it, so maybe it will give him some good old memories from when he got it for x-mas all those years ago? :-$

Does anyone think thats a good idea, or no?

No one buys me gifts :( unless you call scarfs a "gift" :(

Unfortunately none of my friends know I'd like to get a Lego set which is my fault to some extent but let's face it its not easy to tell people you still like lego when your "old" :-D

Well, I'm 26, and my parents used to buy me LEGO for Christmas and/or birthday till I was about 15, and my uncles gave me a few LEGO for present when I was about 10.

Then, I started buying it for myself, but it was a bad period for LEGO (1997-2000), and then I entered my dark ages.

When I came back to LEGO, I started buying sets for myself again, but didn't have parents or relatives give me money for them. They just gave me other presents. Now, since some bigger, and lovelier, sets are quite expencive for a student, in the last two years I've convinced my mother to buy me LEGO again. So now I get a set and then something else for birthday and Christmas.

The most troublesome thing is when my father decides to get me some set he has seen while travelling for his work: I have the almost total certainty I'll end up with some horrible sister brand set :-X .

Despite my efforts, he still has to learn the difference |-/

This is why I now order the sets on S@H, or buy them myself, and then give them to my parents so they can give them back to me as gifts *wacko* X-D

In conclusion, apart from my parents, no other relatives or friend buy me LEGO, since I'm to old for that, even if they appreciate my MOCs :-D .

I got a lot of lego from my parents and grandparents as a child..

the greatest moments I remember was my birthday with the first airpost, or the cargo center, the M-Tron stuff, the metroliner.. ahh.... great times..

my girlfriends gave me lego from time to time.. (some made their best presents with this :-D )

- the first at-st which got me out of my dark ages

- the 4504 Falcon!!!

- the orient expedition chinese castle... (thanks, honey!)

(all from different girlfriends)

my friends gave me smaller sets sometimes.. star wars, creator...

and from my parents I got a lego salt and pepper thing for the kitchen!

a few weeks ago some friends were here who were amazed by the uplink robot... they were really playing with it

and pointing out how cool it is.. :) and I was the one who had to say... come on guys... it is a toy! hehe...

so... everyone knows about it and I like to get things a lot!!!

Well, for me, my parents get me Legos on Christmas and my birthday.

I don't tend to tell new aquaintances about my love for Lego *wub* But, if it's being brought up in a conversation I will tell them. I made a friend like that by hearing him say something about the Republic gunship, and now, he might be joining this forums soon.

*sweet*

Hm... You must be still pretty young?

Anyways, I'd use to get LEGO for my birthday and Christmas, but now, I just go out and buy them or order.

Yes, I am still in my teenage years *sad*

It's kinda sad when parents stop getting their children Lego's for Christmas....

Although, it's a great feeling when it's a holiday or your brithday when you grab the presents and you shake the box to hear what the contents are.....augh the memories! :'-)
