Posted April 10, 20168 yr I see all these DK Lego DC Superhero books but none at all for Marvel. Any reason why? I would love to see a book showing off all the Marvel minifigures so far.
April 10, 20168 yr ^ Most likely. However, DK's Minifigure Year by Year didn't have any Disney characters but still had Marvel and Star Wars, so I'm not quite sure of the parameters of the licensing here.
April 11, 20168 yr Author I think warner brothers handles all of the licensing for DC, BUT for Mavel properties used in movies/shows, multiple studios seem to own the rights to different movies/shows, which makes negotiating rights more complicated. For example, fox has x-men/fantastic4, sony has spider-man, and marvel/disney has the avengers. This may be why Lego DC sets are not just limited to just shows/movies since it's easier to negotiate a single contract for everything. In the Lego marvel video games, do x-men/spider-man/avengers/etc ever meet? If not, then I'm guessing the different studios don't want their 'property' to be mixed in with the properties from other studios, and that goes for books as well. I read about Marvel cancelling the fantastic4 comic book because they didn't like fox owning the rights to that item, since Marvel is now trying to get all their licenses back. I suppose the only way currently for DK to come out with Marvel books is to have separate books for each property (eg: x-men book, spider-man book, avengers book, etc), but I don't they they have enough sets each to warrant that. The DK DC books use to be all about batman but it's starting to be less bat-centric, which is good.

LEGO Marvel Superheroes? The final level has all of them cooperating. LEGO must have negotiated some contract to pull that off, so why not for the books? It could just be the hassle of having to negotiate with each studio both individually and together, but they pulled it off for DK's LEGO Minifigure Year by Year book.
April 11, 20168 yr Fox and Sony have movie rights, not rights to books, TV, or comics. Hence the reason those characters can be in Lego games.

But I would guess only when the books, games, etc are not based on the story or design of their movies. EG: wolverine based on comic book design: ok since license is from marvel, but wolverine based on movie design, nope since license is from fox.
April 11, 20168 yr Well, Marvel has locked down promotion of a lot of X-Men material since they don't want to inadvertently promote the Fox movies. Same with Fantastic Four.
June 7, 20186 yr Yeah guys, I Love the Lego Star Wars and Marvel etc. and I have a LOT of Lego Star Wars books but now I'm more interested in Lego Marvel books rather than Lego Star wars books, so I'm really interested if some Lego Marvel books will come in 2018 - 2020.
June 7, 20186 yr DK Books is published by Random House. Marvel is published by Hachette. I guess Random House doesn't have the book rights.

This seems to be the most likely reason. Thanks. Update: Actually, DK puts out a lot of Marvel related books, for both the comic and movie universes. Just nothing relating to LEGO as well. https://www.dk.com/us/search/marvel Edited July 16, 20186 yr by badbob001
