(1)Stein Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I kind of want to know what the space slug looks like. Probably like this! Quote
Anio Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 As far as I know, the slug (and the MF btw) is much smaller. But the asteroid is a bit bigger. It is a more or less 150-170 part set. Quote
Cwetqo Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 Well, since the "cat is out of the bag", we may say a few words about it. I dont know official TLG reason why it was handled that way, but in my opinion the decision to go over LUGs was to avoid large number of resellers, which in the past seized every opportunity to get special sets (SDCC being prime example of this). If you are a member of LUG and your LUG is registered with LEGO (RLUG), your ambassador should know about it, so please aks him. Selection process inside each LUG is its internal matter, TLG only helped with distribution in areas where there are multiple LUGs in area of each LEGO store. All those selected then got invited to pick invitations in their stores on april 15th. And while you may think that all spaces were immediately full, that was not the case with some stores even not having single applicant, and just few having all spaces occupied. So, the problem is not so much in method itself, but in lack of certain ambassadors to follow postings on LEGO Ambassador Network and communicate (in time) that information to their LUGs. As for TLG, I've been in contact with them about this and there were no official comments about this except that they will certainly learn from it to make it an even better experience in the future. About the set: it's meant to be suprise for atendees, so will not reveal it's contents, but expect something in size of each years SDCC sets (around 160pcs). Global number of produced sets is 3500, same for posters (which are free gift for every atendee, while space slug set is "reward with purchase" of over $150). P.S: there were infos about larger number of invitations being sent to some stores. We were assured that its not true and that each store will accept just 28 atendees. I dont know what will happen in stores where all spaces were not taken, but I heard some rumors (not from TLG or stores) that some MAY be handed to non-LUG members on first-come first-serve basis. It may be worth asking your ambassador and/or you store about it, but dont get you hopes to high, since the numbers are VERY limited (as I said, 28 per store). Quote
PickleManDan Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I went to my LEGO store the other day and told one of the employees about, and he gave me an invitation. As far as I'm aware, there are no LUGs anywhere near my area. Quote
kibosh Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I really wish I knew what this Slug set looked like. I got an invitation, but I'll be camping this weekend. I don't want to drive 2 hours one way for a total disappointment. Quote
HawkLord Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 At 160ish pieces, I doubt the Space Slug will be that impressive. The Falcon will probably be something similar to what's appeared in Advent Calendars. Quote

droid747 Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 And if no rare bricks, you could just bricklink/ lego b&p the set once instructions are posted online. Quote
kibosh Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I just looked, and I can't find $150 worth of sets I'd be willing to buy, either. Quote
lanesteele240 Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 The day that i found out about this (2 weeks ago), I took my rump along with my cavegod at-at's head to my local lego store (2hr drive). I showed it off to the guys and explained that i was building the falcon next. I bought all the bricks off the wall they had for the falcon and inquired about the event. He went into the mumbo jumbo about i had to get an invite from a local aflo group. I was like dag. That is a let down. After i paid he sliped me an invite and a clipboard with a hush hush sign. Thanks to that dude. And if no rare bricks, you could just bricklink/ lego b&p the set once instructions are posted online. And you can draw out the box on photo shop. Quote

The rare mini figs may go to because I really dont need them. I will then bricklink the set and photo shop the box To either of you if you went to the event, I would be interested in purchasing the Space Slug set off of you. This might make it a little more worth it for you to go :) Edited April 22, 2016 by LegoMedGuy Quote
Captain Nemo Posted April 22, 2016 Posted April 22, 2016 I wouldn't get too worked up about this "exclusive" set. I heard about this VIP event through my magazine contacts a couple weeks ago, and in their provided PDF was a preliminary image of the set--which is rather boring to be honest. Nothing exclusive brick wise. Two 2x2 grey dishes are used for the hull of the Millennium Falcon, so that should give you an indication of just how small the whole thing is. I don't think I should really say more considering it's apparently a surprise. In short, it's not worth spending $150 to get in my opinion. Quote

The value wont be determined by how many peices, it will be determined by supply and demand. If each store only gets 30 sets then there will be collectors willing to pay big bucks if they missed out. I saw a leaked pick of it and what i saw was not impressive. Just that the limited number of kits in box is what attracted me. I dont have any exclusive sets. I probably need to hold on to it and retire off it Edited April 22, 2016 by lanesteele240 Quote
CM4Sci Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 (edited) Sounds pretty disappointing, but oh well. Edited April 23, 2016 by CM4Sci Quote
HawkLord Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 What's silly is that collectors may be paying big bucks just for a box. If the contents inside aren't anything special (and they aren't - no minifigure, no printed pieces, etc), then you're really just paying for a special box to house a set of common pieces. That why the other con exclusive mini-sets never impacted me - my days of collecting cardboard boxes because someone says they're "special" are long over. Quote

I don't disagree that is seems crazy to pay high prices for essentially just packaging, but then again for the completists out there it is a must. This is further compounded by the fact that those who want the set might not get an invitation, and those who get the invitation might not want the set. Quote
promobricks Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 I put all news about this set together and added some further details from my sources: http://www.promobricks.de/details-zum-lego-star-wars-escape-the-space-slug-exklusiv-set/15176 There is a picture which describes the set scene very detailed. A video clip as well. Have fun watching ... Quote
pittpenguin123 Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Photo leaked on reddit. seems to be lots of hate saying its to small. What did they expect a UCS falcon with scale space slug? Quote
HawkLord Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Oh, my. If that pic is legit, I'm glad I don't need to worry about this set. Granted the piece count is low and that effects the design, but the Falcon could have been better and the slug could have used bigger pieces. Quote

rulesofbio Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Hey! Im going with 3 friends this saturday! we're traveling and sharing a newark ariport shuttle to get to the venue and staying at the Bridgewater Marriot. We're looking for more people to share transportation and hotel expenses. If somebody want to join us guys feel free to ask me! :D Quote
HawkLord Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I'm seeing it as a continuation of last years exclusive mini builds (tatooine and dagobah). It definitely is in terms of design, just not in terms of collectibility. This item is acquired very differently than those other ones listed. It's hard to make it feel quite like a companion piece in that regard. Quote

Eh, I guess it's a matter of opinion because if the design is similar when we get official pics, I think it will look wonderful as a companion piece. Quote
droid747 Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I received a flier in the mail yesterday and was thinking I had received an invite but after reading it, it was just to promote the free mini fig, free poster, and new hoth set for may the 4th. The flier did say certain star wars sets would be on sale but did not say which ones. Does anyone know which sets will be on sale in the United states? Quote
namioik Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Spoke with store manager, he specifically said any left over "Space Slug sets" that are not redeemed by 10AM will be locked up and shipped back to corporate. He also mentioned they were very strict about it and only 1 per customer. Obviously your stores may vary (if your store manager chooses not to follow these instructions). Quote
