December 15, 200717 yr In several places, I have noticed red-colored Darth Vader helmats. So I wonder: are these custom or real? Yes, they're realy, but they were pre-production pieces....I think 8-| >:-) Yay for the 800th post. Woot Wout! ;-) Edited December 15, 200717 yr by Exo-builder59
December 15, 200717 yr They are real. I believe that they were done for a LUG as there are too many around for pre-production. But I could be wrong... 8-|
December 15, 200717 yr This guy's got a few. this is Nannan Z, the same guy who made that twisted dreams thing. *sweet*
December 15, 200717 yr This guy's got a few. :-D Yes I have seen that before... and it is one of the big reasons why I think they were put into limited production.
December 15, 200717 yr :-D Yes I have seen that before... and it is one of the big reasons why I think they were put into limited production. Why....because he has them all? X-D :-D
December 15, 200717 yr Why....because he has them all? X-D :-D He doesn't have them all, I have one. They originally came from a seller very close to one of the factories, theories as to how or why are varied and range from the LUG one (but I doubt it, since there is no LUG claiming to have had an event involving them) to a special order (LEGO will make any available piece you want in any available colour you want, if you buy enough of them, but I doubt this too or there would be literally tens of thousands of them and they might not be allowed to do this with a licensed part) all the way down to "some guy snuck a batch through and sold them out the back door" which sort of feels like the most right and wrong answer at the same time. Whatever the case, it's a neat thing to have. Now that they've decided to use the divers mask as the damaged helmet, I can honestly say I have both in red, I just haven't figured out a cool angle to use it. That's not entirely true. I do have one idea for a vig, but until I buy another camera, it isn't happening.
December 15, 200717 yr -snip- all the way down to "some guy snuck a batch through and sold them out the back door" which sort of feels like the most right and wrong answer at the same time. -snip- Yes, this is probably the most believeable answer; it would explain why no one has clamed credit. :-P
December 15, 200717 yr According to one of my friends, who has many non-production parts, lego mainly makes non-production parts in two colors: Red to test the mold itself, and transparent to sea if there are any cracks within the mold. -Chuck

But IMHO there are too many for it to be just that; besides they appeared just recently.

December 15, 200717 yr I'd order a custom pink vader if lego made customs on order! :-P MAybe we can order a EB comunnity set? :-) Hmmm... Stauder
December 18, 200717 yr Yeah, they're not all that uncommon X-D And Chuck, red isn't just to test a mold, it was originally the color used to test for cracks and stress (when you stress red, you get a very noticeable white streak), but trans-clear is used for that these days. So if you see a part in red that's recent, it's probably made for a specific LUG, or event.

As for rare colored parts, they are usually found in a few European PABs every now and then or are sold by people who manage to get them from Lego directly through certain means. The former is usually the case. -Chuck Edited December 18, 200717 yr by Chuck
December 18, 200717 yr Nope, its still used to test molds, as Lego does not make specific parts for LUGs or events. -Chuck I'm afraid they do, for orders of a certain quantity they will do custom orders. As for events, they use parts in different colors for their own legoland MOCs. And I know this for a fact ;-) The extras eventually get out, and onto Bricklink. Rare parts are something of a specialty of mine Edit: ah, you did a phantom edit of your post again! Caught ya :-P And the PaBs are sometimes the overflow i mentioned earlier, and sometimes it's just people who sneak some out.

December 18, 200717 yr Hey, does anyone know how many bricks you need to order for a custom order? I am thinking of talking to my LUG about doing this. Thanks!
