Sariel Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Hi guys. Tell me, how do you feel about reviews that are mere 20 years late? Quote
Saberwing40k Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 It's not exactly my kind of set, but your review is excellent as always. Incidentally, there are some trucks like this that do have only single tires on the rear axles, but that configuratation is really uncommon, because those so called super singles are more expensive than dual tires. grum64 Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Great review as always Sariel but having just sold mine I can't help feeling it's rubbing salt in the wound Quote
Blakbird Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Hi guys. Tell me, how do you feel about reviews that are mere 20 years late? Technicopedia is full of them! Ah this brings back memories. I first built this model in 1996. I was recently out of college and working my first professional job and finally had enough money for some toys so I bought this new at the toy store. I built it on the kitchen table in my apartment over the coarse of several days, savoring every moment. At this point I had still never tried Technic. Little did I know what the future would hold! It could be said that this set started it all. Quote

Josephiah Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Nice review. In the roundup at the end I would put "instructions are much more demanding" firmly into the "pros" column! Quote
Edwin Korstanje Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Please TLG, bring Modelteam back. Thanks Sariel for this great review of one of best set ever  Quote
zux Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 I wanted this so much when I was younger (and still don't have it ), that I've built an extended version of 5590 truck to barely look like Black Cat. But I was happy with a mod. It is still assembled. Quote
braker23 Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Awesome review for an awesome set, thanks a lot Sariel :) Quote
lcvisser Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Great review! I really wanted this set when it came out, but didn't. I recently got me a second hand copy, with box and instructions. It is still wait for me to clean it and rebuild it. This review made me more anxious to start! (Just moved house, so no space yet ). Quote
nychase Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Hi guys. Tell me, how do you feel about reviews that are mere 20 years late? Does this mean to expect a review of its much rarer brother the 5563 racing truck?! Exclusive to Lego Shop at Home. 5571 was the set I never got to have as a kid, I started with 5590 and loved it to degrees I can't describe but I was never able to get 5571 until I was an adult. Over the last few years I have owned 13 or 14 of them but currently only have 5 (MISB, MIB, Used and two Grazi Tow Trucks (white/black)). The set was worth the 15 year wait for me! Quote
Aleh Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 A genius review! Such a nostaalgie! I was playing such 5571 the whole childhood! Looking review with tears in my eyes! I wish my 20 year pasts were the same high-qulity as in the review! Thanks a lot dear Sariel! Quote
Interceptor Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 (edited) Sariel, that is an amazing review, great nostalgia, thank you. Hope you will continue retrospective reviews regarding Technic / Model Team flagships of the past. I received 5580 and 5550 in my childhood as Chritmas presents but never got 5571. It was a holy grail for me until 2009 when I bought it from my friend in MIB condition as an adult. I liked the set so much that I purchased an intact original sticker sheet for the set. It was well worth the wait. For me the only negative thing is the lack of double wheels on the rear axels. Narrow-minded step by the manufacturer considering the huge price. For me 5571 is just perfect from every other aspect. Super detailed exterior and interior, engine (IMO it shouldn't have moving pistons because Model Team is not about technical solutions). I like the coffee machine and TV inside the cockpit. Chrome silver parts give proper characteristic to this beauty. You will never regeret purchasing it. Nowdays Creator Expert line could create something similar but unfortunately Model Team will hardly ever come back. 5571 in the center of my MT collection: http://www.brickshel...y.cgi?i=6107518 Edited April 18, 2016 by Interceptor Quote
WvG_853 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Thanks for this inspiring review (as always). It convinced me of buying this set. Although not really my preferred style, I prefer open/transparent designs and vintage Lego Technic, I agree it is a classic and it should be fun to build. Looking forward to other Classic reviews! LucyCol Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I always used to shun Model Team sets as too 'toy like' and not an interesting enough build, having watched the review I wish i hadn't. Are the likes of the Mini and VW Camper the modern equivalent of Model Team? Quote
