Actor Builder Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 My Doc Brown hairpiece has a thin crack on the very front of it. I have done nothing but display the minifigure, I haven't even used it in the video game, because I don't own the game. I bought the Doc Brown pack basically just for the new hairpiece for Doc Brown, but it's the part that's cracking. This makes me sad. This is really heavy. Seriously. Is anyone else having this issue? Quote
Space Police XVIII Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Flags. Clip pieces of all kinds. Yesterday I tried attaching a bar piece to one of these http://alpha.bricklink.com/pages/clone/catalogitem.page?P=4595 and it cracked. Haven't seen it happen with any hair piece yet, but in general, Lego quality seems to have taken a sharp dive. Quote
Actor Builder Posted April 15, 2016 Author Posted April 15, 2016 Yes, clip pieces can be quite fidgety. I was wondering specifically about Doc's hairpiece, to see if it was a common problem. I'm considering telling LEGO that it broke and hopefully getting a replacement. Under normal circumstances I would ignore a small crack (Even one that is getting bigger) and not worry about it, but I bought the set pretty much just for that piece, so I think it may be warranted to ask for a replacement... Space Police XVIII Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 I would. It's not just you getting a new piece, it's feedback to Lego that they're doing something wrong. Quote

I just had my first issue that i've needed to report to Lego CS because I couldn't just grab a spare for from my collection. The hand on one of my first order snowtrooper cracked after doing nothing but sit on display for a month. Edited April 15, 2016 by Umbra-Manis Quote
Actor Builder Posted April 15, 2016 Author Posted April 15, 2016 Good point. I just went to the missing bricks website, told it I had a "Broken Brick" and typed in the set number... But the piece was not there. Drats. I guess I'll have to call them instead. Maybe that's better anyway. Maybe they take more notice if you call instead of go online... Quote
BrickJagger Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Lego quality seems to have taken a sharp dive. I agree with this. Unfortunately it seems that Lego has finally started to sell out and is focused on being the biggest instead of maintaining the quality of their products. About of a third of the figures I have purchased since the Lego Movie came out have something wrong with them, and that's not a good sign. Quote
HawkLord Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 On the flip side, literally none of my Lego are in any state of damage despite being on display or in use. It really all depends on your particular experiences, but for me Lego is not declining in quality. In promotions and exclusives, that's another story... I would add that if multiple people are experiencing the same problem with a particular piece, that would be noteworthy to bring to Lego's attention. I hope the OP gets a new piece, I'm sure Lego will come through. Quote

It really all depends on your particular experiences, but for me Lego is not declining in quality. Same here. Most of my hairline fractures on pieces are those from the "bankruptcy" era, along with my last few 2006-2007 Bionicle figures. My old Minifigures in particular were susceptible to this. I pried out a few Minifigure's arms and shoved them back in a few times as a kid, and I've noticed that caused lots of fracturing. Also frequently swapping hands might do it to. I even got a figure from Bricklink that is over a decade old, and it has underarm fractures to, a sign that a previous owner was also ripping out limbs at one point. But hairline fractures in new sets? Maybe I'm lucky but I just haven't seen any yet. Quote
BrickCurve Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 I have hairline fractures in some cheese slopes which I got a few years ago now, from memory it seems to be only the light bluish grey ones that crack. Particularly ones from 2008. Some clips on the LotR horse saddles are also broken. I need to ring Lego about that, but have found the customer service call waiting time to be horrendous. Quote
Lyichir Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 That stinks. But I do have to say this topic has one of the best titles I've ever seen on this forum! Quote
Master_Data Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Whatever you do, don't call! Their customer service line is horrible and the workers barely know how to answer questions not pertaining to a phone order. Send an email, and if you don't get a satisfactory response, try again. I've sent them four emails just to get a simple answer, but it's still better than a phone call. Quote

Fuppylodders Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Talking of cracks etc, I have been dismantling a load of sets for moving. Regarding the Star Wars V19 torrent 7674, upon dismantling, I found that multiple dark red wedge plates and a couple of dark red 1x# plates simply broke off at a corner and left the broken part still attached. I wasn't rough with it, Didn't abruptly bend any of them, but they were clearly fractured over time, and this is just from being built and displayed. Anyone else had similar problem? Only happened on dark red pieces. Considering how old the set is now, is it worth contacting TLG about it? Quote
Actor Builder Posted April 18, 2016 Author Posted April 18, 2016 Considering how old the set is now, is it worth contacting TLG about it? I'd say no. Especially because you get extra cheese wedges in every set with cheese wedges. My Indiana Jones mechanic still has a grey 'stached head, because I didn't think to contact them way back when and I don't think it'd be a worthwhile effort now. Quote

But it's not the cheese wedges, it is the 3x6 wedge plates, as well as other wedge plates, and if I remember correctly, a simple 1x8 plate... Never happened with any other colour/part like this before for me, only ever minifigs , metallic, or 1x1 cheese wedge slopes... Quote
Actor Builder Posted April 19, 2016 Author Posted April 19, 2016 Whoops, I thought you said Cheese Wedges. I read wedges and my brain worked faster than my eyes. I don't know then. Quote

Haven't seen it happen with any hair piece yet, but in general, Lego quality seems to have taken a sharp dive. This is why I shudder at MOCs with those dead trees made out of clips clipped to clips. I've had a lot of clips that had some load on them stressing them into misalignment so they've cracked and loosened. A couple Mixel fingers, Viking axes, Groot fingers. I've also had parts cracking from just the stress of being in an assembled state though. Orange 1x2 bricks, in the feet of one of the mixels, most of the cheese parts in everything, some other stuff, but I've never had a mini wig do it as in the original post. Mostly my concern with my collection is gold print disappearing in my environment. Quote
