mitchlt Posted April 15, 2016 Posted April 15, 2016 Pirates... the Lego theme that in my mind is equally as cool as space but for completely different reasons. Where space has the transparent colors, and the cool objects that let your imagination run wild, Pirates have character! ... and what better way to capture the character then another piece of wall art! For this build, just like my last, I used the Ikea Ribba frame, which I established early on to have more than enough room to hold 1 of all of the classic pirates from the Pirates 1 series. In fact, I even had a little extra room to get creative and make a few scenes. I also decided that I would get away from the boring single color rack and decided to use the green, yellow and blue color scheme that was so popular for the base plates in the early 90s and late 80s. Further, instead of the typical 2x5 pieces used to stack the racks I also decided that I would use something different: trees and barrels. This not only looked better, but also gave me the ability to do more neat things along the way. Lastly, I used base plates for the background, as opposed to construction paper (like so any people do). Anyway, now for the pictures. I hope you all like it! I will try to post some higher resolution pictures in the coming days. Quote

Captain Braunsfeld Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 That is nice - a fine collection of good old pirates! Quote
mitchlt Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 Thanks for all the positive feedback guys! I could stare at the old pirates forever. The expressions and colors are just classic. I want to take a stab at classic castle next. Some of the first series ones are really cool! Quote
Staslegomaster Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 That is nice - a fine collection of good old pirates! Are the pirates displayed year by year? I've got the Mini figures encyclopeia and pirates are the best of all there. Quote
mitchlt Posted April 18, 2016 Author Posted April 18, 2016 Are the pirates displayed year by year? I've got the Mini figures encyclopeia and pirates are the best of all there. I definitely batted the idea back and forth, organizing it in chronological order, but in the end chose not to (just like I chose not to for the space piece I did). The only real reason is because it gets a bit repetitive on a number of the rows- you could have 5 pirates in a row with striped shirts, for example. I wanted it to be a big scramble. On a side note; It's always fun when friends come over and they can look back to the ones they had as a kid and then count the time back as well. Quote
Staslegomaster Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 The collection is nostalgic. Try to upload it in LEGO ideas - to return the golden age of pirates. Quote
