CM4Sci Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Hi! So, something's been bothering me for a while - the giant 'Edited by [user] on 00:00:00' thing on the bottom of posts. Is there any way to change it? Sometimes I wanna make a good looking post and I have to edit it, then that giant grey area is there. Is that just what the forum 'format' is or is there a better and more secrete way to show it? Like a pencil by the original post time, or something showing it was edited. It's probably not that big of a deal to make a post about, but I was just wondering if there was a possibility it could be changed. Thank you! Quote
deraven Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Hmm... All I see for edits is a single line of grey text, in a smaller size than the body text, immediately above the signature line. What "giant grey area" are you seeing when someone edits a post? Does it happen in any particular forum where it could be attributed to the forum theme/template in that section or something? Quote
Gnac Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 A time limit (2 mins seems to be the usual) before the message appears would be nice. For some reason I still miss little errors in post formatting after submitting, despite using the preview feature. Some errors seem to be inserted by the software (random appearances) as a result of post length. This is the only forum I've ever known to be so unforgiving with edits. Quote

Tech Artist Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 (edited) I've never understood why the forum software has to tell everyone that we edited our post. Does it really matter? If I wanted to let the whole world know I edited my post Edit: I'd do this... vvv ^^^ Edited April 17, 2016 by Tech Artist Quote
deraven Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Nah, I just really hate seeing this vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv OK, fair enough. I don't find it to be large or obtrusive in any way, but to each their own! I've never understood why the forum software has to tell everyone that we edited our post. Does it really matter? If I wanted to let the whole world know I edited my post Edit: I'd do this... vvv ^^^ I'm pretty sure it's standard to simply avoid "I never said that!" kind of issues with people, as well as being generally informative. I have to agree that a 2-minute grace period would be pretty swell as I occasionally also notice something goofy with formatting or whatnot right after I hit "Post"! Quote
Rick Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 The notification is there to let the moderators know if posts have been edited. I have no idea if a time limit can be set before the text appears, but at the same time I don't understand why it's such a big issue. Also, if you typically only spot mistakes after you hit the post button... just read the preview (a second time if necessary) before posting. Quote
