April 17, 20168 yr Search your local lego site for "instructions" eg https://wwwsecure.us.lego.com/en-us/service/buildinginstructions?domainredir=service.lego.com otherwise, if the set is old and not provided by TLG, google it and use one of the large array of 3rd party scans.
April 18, 20168 yr Best option I've found is brickset.com, Type in 6541 in the search block, just hit enter and on the next page pictures of any/all 6541 entries appears. Click the one you want, and below the set picture is an instructions tab. For this set it gives 6 possibilities. Brick instructions works for this set. All of the options don't have all instructions for all searches, but this gives me the best chance of finding old set instructions.

April 24, 20168 yr There is an app called BrickInstructions that looks promising. I've not used it much so far but, so far so good. This app is proving pretty good. There are a few bugs when going back to the menu after using a set of instructions but, nothing crippling.
May 1, 20168 yr Without any doubt there are many websites (more or less trustworthy) that provide old instructions. But what drives me nuts is the horrible quality of the provided files. No matter what you are looking for in (at least) 80% the resolution of the PDF and/or JPEG is absolutely crap. Most of the files are hardly recognizable on a screen, but completely useless as a printout … Can someone recommend a reliable source for old instructions (mid 1980s - mid 1990s) in a “proper” resolution? It can’t be that difficult to scan an original instruction … Or is it for legal reasons that nobody dares to upload them in high-res? It could also be that easy for TLG to provide those instructions on their common instructions site – as they do it with the latest instructions.

May 2, 20168 yr hands up if you remember trying to download them on a 9600baud modem! That's why they were not "proper" resolution.

Yes, I know at the time those files were upload the quality was state of the art. But it's 2016 now and not 2001 ... There is such a vibrant AFOL community - as you can see on eurobricks - that I don't understand why nobody is replacing these "ancient" files by new ones ... I also tried to create my own instructions with LDD but quit the attempt after the first view steps since many "basic" parts where missing ...
