Richpepperell Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Not strictly Star Wars (or in fact Lego at all!) related, but on a recent trip to IKEA, I came across the Synas display box and immediately thought it would be ideal for displaying smaller sets and MOCs. At £20, it wasn't exactly cheap, but I thought it was suitable recompense for having to go to IKEA in the first place. The actual lighted area measures around 30x30 studs. I've so far had a couple of constraction figures (Greivous and Obi-Wan) battling on it as the lid/box section can be left in place or removed to simply leave the flat lit section. Here are a couple of shots just to give you an idea. And with the box off... And finally with a baseplate... Quote
Gouniaf Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 The result is very nice ! Does it get warm ? Quote
Ellisss_ Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 Nice. I like the Tidirium shuttle on the platform it looks fantastic! Quote
Bob De Quatre Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I've been looking at these since Ikea released them... But as you said they aren't cheap, and not that big either. But they look good! Quote
PLP Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 tbf i think £20 is pretty reasonable if the acrylic case is well made. Would it be possible to mount another base upside down on top to give more even lighting or is it ugly underneath? Quote
Richpepperell Posted May 5, 2016 Author Posted May 5, 2016 It just plugs in and has a series of LEDs below the frosted base. Quote
Jackad7 Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Oh ok, as an American does anyone know where I could get something similar in the US? Quote
MartinCliffe Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Oh ok, as an American does anyone know where I could get something similar in the US? Um, as it's an IKEA Synas display box, maybe search for Synas on IKEA? http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60241544/ Quote
