Tercio Espa Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 (edited) Hi everyone, I am new here... I just wanted to post on a MOC I have worked on for a bit, and finally took pics, I know some aren't that good. I also feel, I didn't take enough interior shots... Well anyway here its. :-$ It's suppose to be a Spanish colonization of a Medieval Keep, or fortress. I used a 6276 for most of the Spanish buildings, and some took directly from the set and placed it on to the layout. It took a while to actually get enough armada minifigs, I had initially meant this MOC to feature the bluecoat minifigs, but changed my mind later, as I think these look cooler >:-) . Please excuse the background mess. Here is a link to the brickshelf folder: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=290042 Let me know if you guys have any questions, or what you think. Governor Mister Phes Posted December 15, 2007 Governor Posted December 15, 2007 Damn right the mighty Imperial Armada is cooler! *y* For some strange reason I don't think I've seen an Imperial Armada figure wearing a bicorne till now... Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Welcome to Eurobricks, Tercio *sweet* That's a great-looking fort you've got there. I love the way you've made the fortifications built into the cliff. And the tower is great too *wub* The way you've made the waves is simple yet effective, and the beach part with the palm trees has a nice rough look. The Good work, you've got some very nice techniques you've used. I look forward to seeing more of your creations *y* Quote
Asuka Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 A very decent fort, the rocks work pretty fine with your buildings and you did some great work with the facades especially around the windows. Very well done! :'-) Quote
Axle Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Very cool! I wonder how hard it is to make the rocks at the foot of the island. Are you ever gonna break this, or add more to it? Quote
Col. Whipstick Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Very very nice... now that's how to make an enterance to the forum. I kinda like the old stone tower compared with the yellow-white brick. To me it's suggestive of your story, that the Spanish have taken over the old outpost but the newer yellow-white bricks could be considered newer additions they've made, more contemporary to say the 1500's. I guess being as there is a medieval tower structure there this place would more like the Azores, or Canaries or somewhere in the Mediterranean rather than the Carribean and from there they would be able to deal with the French and pirates too. If you're interested in some Spanish flags to add to it I made some only last week, here's the link: http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...showtopic=12886 Quote
ZeekyBoogeyDoog Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Welcome to Eurobricks! You integrated the buildings onto the landscape very well *y* ! The tower is really cool *y* Quote
SlyOwl Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 (edited) Welcome to the Piratical part of EB...the Pirate Forum... :-/ X-D That's great! Lucky bugger with your SES and CC... |-/ A few areas I feel could be improved: The way you've made the waves is simple yet effective Hmm...I'm inclined to disagree...I don't really like the waves much; they're too...well, the troughs aren't rough enough, IMO; a deserted fortress needs some wild weather and spray, not an oil-sea! *sweet* The last picture doesn't quite work for me... VEG!!! All those bare rock faces need some greenery! You're a terrible sufferer from big greywall syndrome! One cure is plenty of veg - it covers up the grey, reduces the visibility of any dust and allows for great detail, suh as animals and more concealed hiding places. I don't really like the staircases A stone staircase hanging like that? The army doesn't quite look like an army - IMO they all need to be identical... Taking these into account, I would build smaller, so fitting more detail in - to me it looks like you've gone for size, not detail. Good try, but room for improvement! If you're interested in some Spanish flags to add to it I made some only last week, here's the link: Shameless self-promotion on! :-P SlyOwl Edited December 16, 2007 by SlyOwl Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted December 16, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted December 16, 2007 Welcome at Eurobricks Dan! You are taking a dream start by bringing us this marvelous MOC. It's clear the rock existed first and the fortress was build on the rock. What I mean is this: Most builders would start with building a fortress and then add some vegetation and some rocks. Your approach is much more like how real fortresses where build. A special rock or hill was chosen as a site for the fortress because the fortress could benefit from the landscape. Your fortress is one of the most realistic and authentic fortresses I've seen in this forum. I'm sure I'll look at these pictures again a few times in the coming days. I have also plans to build a fortress some day and this is very inspiring! Quote
Tercio Espa Posted December 17, 2007 Author Posted December 17, 2007 Thank you guys for all your comments! Much appreciated. Thanks for the warm welcome into your pirate forums, and for all the compliments! For some strange reason I don't think I've seen an Imperial Armada figure wearing a bicorne till now... I hope that would be a good thing? Are you ever gonna break this, or add more to it? I will break it... I don't have many pieces, so I have to re use my lego bricks for new moc's. Very very nice... now that's how to make an enterance to the forum.I kinda like the old stone tower compared with the yellow-white brick. It was a nice place to keep treasures hidden, and featured only one secret cave entrance into the keep. Unfortunately it was abandoned... Centuries later the Spanish came, looking for treasures and trading with these lands, they colonized the outpost with white/yellow more modern bricks... The question is: Will these men be able to defend themselves from tensions with the French armada, and Pirate attacks? Thanks for sharing these flags, they look great! Hmm...I'm inclined to disagree...I don't really like the waves much; they're too...well, the troughs aren't rough enough, IMO; a deserted fortress needs some wild weather and spray, not an oil-sea! satisfied.gif What waves? I didn't mean to actually make any ocean waves, i just put blue plates just to hold the baseplates together. That's great! Lucky bugger with your SES and CC... hmpfbad.gif Selling Pirate sets on bricklink if anyone is interested PM me. VEG!!! All those bare rock faces need some greenery! You're a terrible sufferer from big greywall syndrome! One cure is plenty of veg - it covers up the grey, reduces the visibility of any dust and allows for great detail, suh as animals and more concealed hiding places. Yea I can try that... But it was meant to be more of a rocky island layout, compared to a jungle layout. I don't really like the staircases Can you show me some examples of staircases? I had no idea how to start on these to be honest; I struggled some. Part of the problem was building the rock first...then trying to build a tower on top... The army doesn't quite look like an army - IMO they all need to be identical It's less than ten men... not really considered an army. Thanks for your compliments, glad you like it, and say it's realistic looking. Thanks again everyone! Quote
WarnIcarus Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 I think that the fort is very well done. One suggestion I would make is for the tower to be a bit smaller, and if you could match it with the color scheme of the bottom, it would be superb! The use of BURPs is good, but at one point it just gets too repetitive. I liked the cave a lot, it would be cool if you could expand that. Quote
Col. Whipstick Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Shameless self-promotion on! :-P SlyOwl Er... the whole reason I made those flags was for everyone to use so how is that self promotion? Tercio Espa Posted December 19, 2007 Author Posted December 19, 2007 Er... the whole reason I made those flags was for everyone to use so how is that self promotion? Besides, the guy is new to the forum and probably only just missed the postings of all the flags. There are a number of flags available for your future MOC's that I've only just completed not to mention the vast library of torso's we have provided by Mosana. Let me know how the flags look and fit if you've printed and tried some, still have to see anyone use them and not sure of the size etc. Alright I will give them a try and let you know. Thanks again for sharing... Stone ones should be built solid - you could just add an arch beneath the floating ones - that looks good. Or more complicated styles...IPB Image IPB Image Or you could try making 'wooden' ones... Thanks, that was helpful... I will try some new techniques next time... Fair enough. Were you going to use an Imperial army, or just a rag-tag bunch? Rag-tag bunch I guess.. :-/ Quote
Col. Whipstick Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Oh as you're new I don't know if you've looked at the index's and libraries but I forgot to mention that there's a bunch of Spanish uniform torso designs available should you ever want to use those. Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 That's a nice fort you have there Tercio! The rock looks great and i love the way you integrated the eldorado fortress *y* Welcome to EB, there's always need for another piratefan! Quote
Errorist Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 indeed an impressive fortress *y* i would love to make a fortress myself sometime dut i don't even have enough bricks to start on a base construction :-P Quote
The Admiral Posted December 23, 2007 Posted December 23, 2007 That's an awesome fortress! I agree with bonaparte about how realistic it looks. I just think those Imperial Armada bunch just need a few more people to guard such a big fortress. They might get a bit lonely! Quote
Tercio Espa Posted December 23, 2007 Author Posted December 23, 2007 Thanks for all your positive replies guys *sweet* Glad you liked it.. Dan Quote
oDDerFisken Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 It such er handsome fort. Like the way it's build in the rocks. And the habour in the cave is just so cool! Only thing i miss is some more close up pics. Quote
Capn Frank Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 (edited) Hey Dan, This a an awesome MOC! *y* Good work. This fort has be added to the Land-based MOC Index. For such a fine MOC, it seems there should be more pics put into the first post, so if it's ok with Dad, i added these pics *sweet* Some closeup thumb-links: Here's a removable portion of this Fort: P Edited December 24, 2007 by phred Quote
