>Nerwen vs. Tarokai - Damage (72/2 - 1 = 35 damage, 18 insanity damage)

Everyone recovers 1 sanity

The heroes rush to combat the mutant fragments of Irzerkutrah, but its original host, the Orc King Tarokai, proves just as resilient in eldritch abomination death as he did in life.

Olmstyr, looking fiercely conflicted, manages to lop off one of Tarokai's errant tentacles. The being's head jerks almost completely sideways as it lurches over to Boomingham. The old war veteran gets perhaps a bit too caught up in the fantasy of finally trading blades with him, and gets a few of the limbs thrashed across his face. Nerwen rushes to the vindicator's aid, but she too is thrown to the ground. The remnant of Tarokai gurgles something vaguely resembling words.

<"29277183671_4e33523cfd.jpg">

While he's distracted, Thalion charges up his staves with light energy, tearing through the enemy party as quick as he can. Skrall nails a shot and gets a pretty close-up view at the inky substance making up these copies. Tarvalk takes a swing at Aazy, while Soryx plays it safe.

Boomingham, Nerwen, and Aazy all start feeling the slimy grasp of madness clinging desperately to try and get a foothold in their minds.

SANITY

- Against Irzerkutrah, the party must maintain its sanity.

- Sanity recovers at a rate of 1 per round. Being healed with consumables recovers 3 sanity, being healed with healing magic recovers 5.

Nerwen reels from the hit, struggling to regain her composure. Unbidden, a lilting melody, a memory from more than two centuries ago rises, a tune played by a young orc, a refugee from the violence of the retributions which followed the invasion.

She begins to whistle along to the refrain, her thoughts calming.

Bast dal bal, Aj dal aln, Cal kahrokuul, grogiiv azt Irolm.

Reaching into her satchel, she again takes a smelling salts knowing her healing would be needed in this battle several times over. Then she reaches inside to heal herself

Olmstyr nods in satisfaction at his blow and raises his blade to strike again.

Skrall reeled back from his glimpse into the creatures madness, focusing on it's Demonic nature and utter lack of resemblance to anything Dark he had ever seen, Skrall fired again from the back row.

Daske rushed to the side of his dragon, cradling the beast's head in his arms. The dragoon knew his weapon was useless against such enemies, and both held back doing nothing. "Someone take care of that Tarvalk."

>Nerwen uses Smelling Salts on herself - (Nerwen hastened)

>Nerwen heals herself - Heal Less (42 health and 5 sanity restored, -1 ether)

Tarokai poisoned by 10 and bleeding - (15 damage)

Everyone recovers 1 sanity

The party fares better as a whole: Tarknal's garbled words disorient Soryx terribly, and Tarokai battles against it fiercely even as Olmstyr's holy oath takes its toll on him, but the rest get some work done. Skrall plugs Tar-Valstyr with a bolt that tears off the mass of writhing blackness that served as its arm, while Boomingham takes out his vengeance by lopping off two or three tentacles at once, Scupperer proving it is the bane of his eldritch foes. Thalion lands the exact same number of hits on his foes, battering all the enemies with the white-hot Alpha and Omega. Nerwen takes a moment to mentally prepare herself, healing both body and mind and readying to do the same for the rest of her partymates.

Skrall focuses in on the utter unhuman likeness of the Eldritch monsters before him, sighting down his crossbow and firing again at Tar-Valstyr from the back row. "Depart or we will end you here."

Aazy and Daske continue to do nothing cheering their companions onward.

Round Three of Tarokin's Trouble

>Olmstyr vs. Tarokai - Special Damage: The Orc King (+1/6 to Tarokai's passives, no hex, 72/2/2 - 15 = 3 damage, 18 insanity damage)

>Skrall marks Eldritch instead of Humanoids

>Skrall vs. Tar-Valstyr (Unlucky) - Special Damage Hit Critical Hit Shield: Marking the Favored (89x2x6 = 1068 damage, Tar-Valstyr KO'd)

>Boomingham vs. Tarokai (Shield) - Deflected Damage Deflected Damage (No deflect, no instant kill, no doom, 72/2/2 - 15 = 3 damage, 18 insanity damage)

Soryx uses a Remedy on himself - (Negative effects removed)

>Daske does nothing

>Aazy does nothing

>Thalion vs. Taerun (and Tar-Valstyr Tarokai, light) - Special Damage Special Damage: Ruthless Pillager (Taerun steals Thalion's luck, copies nimble and immunities)

>Nerwen heals Boomingham - Heal Less (42 health and 5 sanity restored, -1 ether)

>Nerwen heals Soryx - Heal (52 health and 5 sanity restored, -1 ether)

Tarvalk uses free hit on Olmstyr - (40/2 - 15 = 5 damage, 10 insanity damage

Tarknal uses free hit on Skrall - (48/2 - 11 = 13 damage, 12 insanity damage)

Tarokai poisoned by 10 and bleeding - (15 damage)

Horrific: Tar-Valstyr fuses with Tarokai (+1/4 level, +1/2 health, +special, +loot, +effects, immunity to negative effects), everyone takes 5 insanity damage

Everyone recovers 1 sanity

The party's luck runs out this round. Tarokai beefs himself up, and while his weakness keeps him from dealing much physical harm, this abominable reincarnation of the orc king drives Boomingham and Olmstyr nearly off the deep end. Taerun steals Thalion's considerable arsenal of effects, and Nerwen works to quickly keep everyone's bodies and minds intact as, with a single bolt from his crossbow, Skrall blows apart Tar-Valstyr in a mess of black ooze.

But it's far from done. The ooze squiggly lines slide across the floor like a million tiny snakes moving in unison, slithering right into Tarokai's heels. The creature grows and morphs, more tentacles bursting from its sides tightening to hold together the struggling Tar-Valstyr and ferocious Tarokai as the former mutates into the side of the latter, a spectacle that threatens everyone's minds.

The creature before them says nothing...and whirls its way back into the fray.

26051653564_8646297e42_t.jpg

"Somebody throw me a weapon so I CAN STAB THAT THING!!!!" cries Daske in horror. Aazy is slumped in a heap on the ground, sputtering something incoherently as he beholds the monstrosity before them.

OoC: Not that I'm complaining, but why was Tarokai's damage divided twice instead of just once? What am I missing?

Boomingham grits his teeth as the dark visage of Tarokai explodes with more squiggly lines the eldritch goo. He hears voices crying out from the back of his mind, gnawing away, subconscious to consciousness. Already his grasp on the battle and the other heroes is tenuous. Spotting an enormous ogre fighting along his side he makes note to allow the turncoat fight as long as he wants, but to deal with him afterwards. If he had betrayed Tarokai and his army, he could betray Lord Boomingham just as easily.

Boomingham repeats his attack, howling at the Orcish King, determined he will take not one step closer to his own kingdom, treasure room, people, wine casks, wife, son.

OoC: Not that I'm complaining, but why was Tarokai's damage divided twice instead of just once? What am I missing?

You're all on the back row and he's weakened.

Do Vindicators oaths stay active or are exhausted after they cause the effect? Olmstyr and Boomingham can have two oaths going because of their level right?

Oath of Reclamation is exhausted, the others aren't, and yes, they can have two active at once.

"Nerwen, can you get Daske a weapon?" Skrall lines his next shot on Tarknal from the back row. "We're going to need to pop a neutralizer at some point these things are getting messy."

Daske looks expectantly at Nerwen waiting for a weapon. Aazy holds back and does nothing.

"Argh!", cried Thalion in frustration when his latest attack was thwarted and his effects stolen.

Thalion attacks Taerun with broomstick from back row.

Soryx attacks Tarvalk from front row.

If Enchantment is rolled, Thalion will enchant his shield.

I have nothing you can use Daske. Boomingham or Thalion have halberds. You could try them

Round Four of Tarokin's Trouble

>Olmstyr vs. Tarokai - Hit (91x4x2/2 = 364 damage, Olmstyr can declare an oath)

>Skrall vs. Tarknal (Unlucky) - Special Damage Damage (48/2 - 11 = 13 damage, 12 insanity damage)

>Boomingham vs. Tarokai (Shield) - Deflected Damage Deflected Damage (No deflect, Boomingham instant killed)

Soryx vs. Tarvalk - Optimism (Soryx protected from free hits)

>Nerwen heals Boomingham Skrall - Heal Less (42 health and 5 sanity restored, -1 ether)

>Nerwen heals Aazy - Shield: Blood Ritual (Aazy and Olmstyr restored to full health, 5 sanity restored to everyone, 28 damage to Tarokai -1 ether)

>Daske does nothing

>Aazy does nothing

>Thalion vs. Taerun (Broomstick) - Shield Hit (Taerun dodges)

Tarokai poisoned by 10 and bleeding - (15 damage)

Everyone recovers 1 sanity

Olmstyr chops off another of Tarokai's tentacles, but it only seems to enraged the abomination. Boomingham, his mind reflexively struggling against the visions filling his vulnerable mind, fails to bring up his shield in time. The creature lurches towards him, throwing one of its warped limbs around his throat, and using those most similar to arms to pummel him, repeatedly, endlessly.

The visions don't stop yet; he is floating in time, watching his kingdom age before his eyes in his absence. It is watching him. Homes burn. His castle, ransacked. King Boomingham becomes an icon of honorable sacrifice, briefly, before orcish holdouts seize his abandoned kingdom by the throat, throttling it. Undefended. Leaderless. Age crumbles his walls as his visage is defaced. Traitor. Where was he? It is watching him. He abandoned them. King Boomingham is vilified, and then forgotten. First by the poor, fleeing his kingdom. Then the nobles, squabbling over his empty hold. Then his family. The land withers, farmers dead or gone. Ivy overcomes his castle...no, his ruins. The pillars splinter and break. The kingdom is dead. And its king is made to watch, two hundred and fifty years of lost time. Is it a figment of his madness? It is watching him. Or is he watching history, the death of his legacy?

It is a desperate relief when his eyes finally close and Irzerkutrah's hold on his mind goes slack. It has other prey to deal with.

Tarknal avoids Skrall's bolt, striking him fiercely; Nerwen hurries to heal him, and, in a desperate bid to keep the rest of the party to succumbing Boomingham's fate, heals them, bolsters their hold on reality, and goes as far as to use Tarokai's inky black 'blood' to do it. Taerun, using Thalion's elven nimbleness against him, avoids his flyby on his broomstick.

Thanks to Nerwen's efforts the party is holding steady, but Boomingham's absence is noticeable.

SANITY

- Against Irzerkutrah, the party must maintain its sanity.

- Sanity recovers at a rate of 1 per round. Being healed with consumables recovers 3 sanity, being healed with healing magic recovers 5.

- Irzerkutrah will find good use for insane heroes. If the entire party goes insane, the quest will fail.

OoC: Aazy's health needs to be adjusted.

"Thalion, get Daske a weapon!" Skall grunts as the inky blackness of demon pierces into his side.

Daske looks to the elf, ready for the handoff as Aazy waits in the back.

Skrall watches as Boomingham is throttled before being tossed aside like a rag doll. Letting out a roar and standing over the vindicator, the hunter draws his Greatsword and attacks Tarokai from the front row.
