"I believe they were tasked with takin' out General Gor, Thalion." Skrall turned back to the blue assassin. "I recall the business with Posco and if yer client is as wealthy as ya say he is, then I'm sure ya know there's no way we could pay ya off. Which only leaves us with one option, doesn't it..."

"Have to say I'm with Skrall on this one. Not sure what exactly your game is - it ain't likely we're going to be outpaying you, and you've already gotten yourself captured, so... you're being mighty open, is what I'm saying, for someone with no way to move forward." Boomingham chews on the inside of his cheek. "Shame that the blind priest keeled over. Could have used him for information on Grishnod. Can't say I pity him though, protecting his life instead of the rest of Baltarok. No honor there."

"Anyway, Alzar, if we're being all free lipped, how about you let us know where the Hel you stashed Grishnod. Then maybe we can let you off with a warning."

Boomingham turns to Tra-Serral. "Should we be moving Gor into some sort of protected location? Any reason why anyone would try to off him?"

Nerwen speaks quietly to Olmstyr.

Do you still practice trial by combat? If so, perhaps we might offer this fellow his shot at Gor. I'd imagine Gor does not have the rank of General as a courtesy, and at a trail, he would not have endless tricks up his sleeve.

We need to find Grishnod, so we need to offer him something.

"What exactly was your job here, tonight? And who was your target, or targets?" Thalion asked diplomatically.

"Like I said. Take down Gor."

Skrall turned back to the blue assassin. "I recall the business with Posco and if yer client is as wealthy as ya say he is, then I'm sure ya know there's no way we could pay ya off. Which only leaves us with one option, doesn't it..."

"Now slow down a minute friend. I'm being perfectly cooperative here, aren't I? There's no need to get impatient with me."

"Karst...very clever," replied Olmstyr, voice low. "If what he says is true, I don't think he's about to give up on his mission. We can offer him a fair fight with General Gor in exchange for whatever information he's witholding. I can't imagine Gor would shy away from a fight with this sarkuun."

"Is there a need for me to be hiding information?"

26630639446_ebb3160a80_t.jpg

"Possibly. There's still much we don't know concerning this case."

15030989462_67d0783027_t.jpg

"Hm. We didn't take Grishnod. That was one of the others' jobs."

26051653564_8646297e42_t.jpg

"So you're ALL in on this! I KNEW you were working together with the others!!"

Alzar fell quiet briefly and leaned back on the destroyed counter he was sitting on.

15030989462_67d0783027_t.jpg

"Deal with me, and I'll think about pointing you in the right direction. I have no intention of taking this intel to the shallow grave you'd put me in."

26630637866_44677f7a0c_t.jpg

"If this oshuultra speaks the truth then I do not believe Gor has anything else to concern himself with. Assassins work alone or in pairs. Too many variables complicates things, they would not send others. The reasoning is part of why you are here. We have reason to believe every clan leader is being targeted. Clearly Gor and Grishnod were."

"I think that is a fair offer..." Thalion says diplomatically, as if trying to convince the assassin to accept the offer.

Afterwords, Thalion moved to Nerwen and the others and whispered, "I dont like dealing with assassins so, for me, that is not an option, but I dont think we will get much further with just talking."

Boomingham leans finds a chair to lean back in. "Okay, so you're mister nice chappo now. You know that we aren't going to just let you kill Gor - you have a job, we have a job, and since you seem to know Skrall here you know we don't welch. So what's your proposal as to how we proceed?"

Speaking to the assassin she says There'd be no need for us to kill you. We'd only need to make it known you skipped out on killing Gor, there'd be a price on your head faster than you can blink.

But we don't have to do that. We can give you your shot at Gor. Straight up. Fair fight. One blade each. If you're as good as you seem to think, you'll have no problem.

And just before we let you in the circle with him, you give us the pointer to who's got Grishnod and where they're hiding him.

Alzar glanced sideways at Vlad, who merely shrugged and scratched his beard. Alzar looked off in thought for a moment longer.

15030989462_67d0783027_t.jpg

"Alright. You have yourself a deal."

"Like I said, Gor was our target. But we aren't the only ones you have to wor-"

26630637866_44677f7a0c_t.jpg

"Obviously," snarled Tra-Serral. "Tell us where the others are."

15030989462_67d0783027_t.jpg

"No idea. For the most part. This contract was taken out almost two years ago, but it wasn't exactly exclusive. The other assassins, I don't know anything about them. Compartmentalized information. Just codenames. The Silence, they sent us out after Gor, so I can only assume everyone is assigned to one of the clan leaders. To keep from us tripping over eachother."

26051653564_8646297e42_t.jpg

"Hang on. Really? But there are only four clan leaders...and we have five codenames."

15030989462_67d0783027_t.jpg

"Like I said...we're only told what we need to know. But you're in luck...because we needed to know exactly when to take on Grishnod's face. One of the other assassins is holding him in some place called a taaln."

26630639446_ebb3160a80_t.jpg

"The Taaln," corrected Olmstyr, frowning. "That is a very significant building...but it's only in use once a year, for the Clanmeet. It's right here in the heart of Imaestym. Why in the world would they keep him there, and...for that matter, why is he even still alive?"

15030989462_67d0783027_t.jpg

"Beats me. Our contract was kill. Pretty straightforward. It took a lot of setup to get Grishnod out of the picture, not killing him seems like a waste."

26051653564_8646297e42_t.jpg

"Right, well. Speaking of waste..." Daske pushed Vlad forward onto the ground. While they'd been talking, she'd been tying both his hands and feet - the burly man fell to the ground, growling. She approached Alzar with more rope, and he merely shrugged and lifted his arms, wrists together.

15030989462_67d0783027_t.jpg

"I've been in more prisons than I can count at this point, girl. I know the drill. Just so long as I get my shot at Gor. Nice of you all to ever so anxious step out of the way again. You know, you used to be quite a problem for the Blue Assassins in the past. Nice to know we can all still be professional about all this." Alzar shifted. The heroes noticed that for once he was not in fact smiling under his mask. "I know where this is going for you, heroes. So I'm going to give you a bit of free advice. Don't mess around with the Wandering Silence. We can't figure out what they want or how much power they've got, but the bottom line is, the answer to both is a lot. Everyone's got their secrets, but they've gotten plenty done over the last century without having to say a single word."

The smile returned.

"Or do mess around with them. I bet contracts on heroes pay a pretty penny."

Once both assassins were restrained, Daske dragged them outside, followed by Olmstyr and Tra-Serral.

26051653564_8646297e42_t.jpg

"Aazy, go grab some guards. And tell 'em to maybe set up a room for these two 'til after tonight. Bet General Gor could use the stress relief of putting this idiot in the ground."

The tiny dragon flew off. Olmstyr toyed with the hilt of his sword and nodded at a quartet of four massive spires in the distance.

26630639446_ebb3160a80_t.jpg

"That would be the Taaln. It was there the Vauno gathered the fifty seven clans in the presence of a bloodied slave and turned a lot of hate into ambition and war. That's where the Invasion was planned and launched. Is this Wandering Silence having these assassins make a statement? Do they intend to execute Grishnod there?"

26630637866_44677f7a0c_t.jpg

"Maybe. They will fail. Prepare yourselves, heroes. This will not be as...subtle as the feast."

26051653564_8646297e42_t.jpg

"THAT was subtle?! The bar nearly exploded!!"

26630637866_44677f7a0c_t.jpg

"My meaning is that they will be ready for us. Ash Tarokaish azh dol alhakh ul canz ir kutraho."

26051653564_8646297e42_t.jpg

"Why does everyone do that? You know the heroes don't understand that?"

26630639446_ebb3160a80_t.jpg

"We'll be ready for them, no matter what awaits us. On your word, heroes."

"Well, little lady," says Boomingham as he chugs a mead and winks at Tra-Serral. "Looks like it's time to show us if your weapons have as much bite as your tongue. I'm ready whenever you are, Nerwen." Boomingham glances at the Vauno and his party mates, glad for each of their company in the upcoming brawl. "Can't imagine this little assassin won't be a little more than outnumbered, though."

Hearing everyone check in, Nerwen nods.

Let's go.

Adding to Boomingham,

I hope there are lots of them. A villain that surrounds himself with mooks does so to protect himself. He fears open combat. A villain alone is very dangerous. He has no fear, thinking he can take any number of foes.

Sorry, I've been busy as of late and I'm trading out one guest for another. Next update will come later in the weekend.

Fun fact: the weekend does in fact extend to Monday/Tuesday in Florida.

Super thank you for all your patience. I don't foresee many other massive delays like that. I even took some more set pictures in advance so that'll help.

26630637866_44677f7a0c_t.jpg

"I am not here to prove myself to you or your allies."

26630639446_ebb3160a80_t.jpg

"Our allies, Tra-Serral," added Olmstyr, with a hint of impatience.

26630637866_44677f7a0c_t.jpg

"You were not the one impeded from your task by a band of these Heroicans. You stood by their side, if I remember correctly."

26630639446_ebb3160a80_t.jpg

"Is this really about the bridge? Still now?"

Tra-Serral went silent and tightened her bladed gauntlet to her hand. Olmstyr ran his hand through his hair, visibly suppressing a sigh, before opening the door.

Skrall smirked, "Well ya know we're goin' have to investigate them now." The ogre spread a deadly venom onto his Unlucky Crossbow. "I'm ready when the rest of ya are."

15030989462_67d0783027_t.jpg

"Oh. Odd coincidence." Alzar smirked slightly. "Well, good luck. Me and Vlad will be good little prisoners until you take down the others. Or die trying." He shrugged. "But word around the block is you heroes have some difficulty with that. Careful you don't go as bad as the Reds."

I hope there are lots of them. A villain that surrounds himself with mooks does so to protect himself. He fears open combat. A villain alone is very dangerous. He has no fear, thinking he can take any number of foes.

26051653564_8646297e42_t.jpg

"Soooo....you're saying you think he's an orc."

26630639446_ebb3160a80_t.jpg

"Some of us can be....very proud, Daske."

26051653564_8646297e42_t.jpg

"Yeah, that's totally the word I would use." Daske giggled and hefted her spear. "Come on, I hear you guys kill gods or whatever, surely one assassin can't be THAT tough. I mean, apparently this one has been hired to actively NOT assassinate somebody! Can't be that good."

The heroes ventured throughout the streets of Imaestym. They left behind the Kingdoms-esque fortress and almost-paved roads to a more distinctively Baltarok area...that is, the entire rest of the city. The fine chiselled stone gave way to stout, aged mud bricks and bold wooden structures that lacked the rigid layouts of the inner district, the streets arranged haphazardly. But the paths themselves looked even more alive than before; street vendors were scattered everywhere, and the heroes virtually had to push their way through the throngs of orcs, ogres and other greenskins that inundated every space even remotely big enough for them to stand in. The grog ran like blood on the day of the Invasion and all the activity may as well have been mistaken for one. It was strange seeing orcish children playing with makeshift figurines of the person the rest of the world recognized as the greatest war criminal of all time, but clearly not to them.

After nearly an hour spent trying to get down a path that would've otherwise taken minutes, the party finally arrived at the Traaln, a low, ancient-looking building with four tall spires in an architectural style of some forgotten clan, the flag of each great clan of the present day hanging from each. Olmstyr opened the massive wooden double doors which were, at least to some, surprisingly not locked.

26051653564_8646297e42_t.jpg

"Wow. I know this place was built before locks were probably even a thing, but you'd figure such an important place would have, I don't know, some actual security??"

26630639446_ebb3160a80_t.jpg

"This is as close to sacred ground as you get in Baltarok. History was made here. Perhaps this is a message."

The leader of the Vauno led the way inside. Without a Clanmeet on, the interior of the building was pitch black. The heroes could barely even tell where they were going, but Olmstyr almost seemed to know the layout by heart. Aazy slithered his way around Daske's shoulder as if afraid of the impenetrable blackness.

26051653564_8646297e42_t.jpg

"I doubt this place has a prison. Don't usually take captives, right? So...mind telling us where we're going?"

26630639446_ebb3160a80_t.jpg

"Clan Irlaz's war room. It'd make sense, being as he's their clan leader."

Sure enough, when the party finally fumbled their way to the place Olmstyr indicated and opened the door, they found a very dim, rather empty room, with a very ragged, rather angry clan leader tied into a chair.

27585885761_033de87e09_o.jpg

26630639446_ebb3160a80_t.jpg

"Grishnod!"

26630640186_9a4481a445_t.jpg

"Hmph." The clan leader looked very, very exhausted from his second time being held captive for a lengthy stretch of time. "Took you...long enough."

26051653564_8646297e42_t.jpg

"Whoa! You look REAL bad, sir. Lemme get you out of-"

26630640186_9a4481a445_t.jpg

"Hold-"

A burst of color exploded into the room with a blurred trail of energy, and the Vauno drew their weapons in an instant as a reverberating sound resembling the crash of metal overlapped with a loud magical shimmer echoed throughout the claustrophobic room. Daske was knocked off her feet with a yelp as a tall, lithe figured wearing an elaborate and majestic-looking set of armor looked through a sleek visor at the party, a massive, magical weapon buried in the stones just in front of where Daske was standing.

The guardian blinks at Nerwen and Thalion.

26384151790_967b329e22_t.jpg

"...Elen silë omentiemman."

She lifts her weapon out of the ground and rests it on her shoulder.

"I am Vinyenne Silaramel. I have been called Vivienne Silkenstride. I believe you may know me as the Silken Savior. I will assume the doppelganger failed in his task, and that you are here to claim my prisoner from me. Unfortunately, I am holding him."

Vivienne stared down the party through the slit in her visor, unwavering despite how vastly she was outnumbered. How would the heroes respond?

Not an orc. And alone. Nerwen says as an aside to Daske.

She nods in greeting to the armoured figure

Stars shine on our meeting, Vinyenne. As polite guests in their city, we will speak a language the glamhoth can understand also.

I have heard your name, and your assumptions are correct. Though the fact that we are speaking suggests you are open to discussion regarding Clan Leader Grishnod's fate. Would you care to name your price?

Nerwen swaps her etherial cloak for the cloak of espionage.

"Mae l'ovannen! I am Thalion Dwinlas." Thalion stated with bowed to the Vinyenne. He looked at Nerwen and nodded, "As arwenamin said, we will speak so that everyone can understand."

He turned back to the Silken Savior, "How did you come by the name Silken Savior, If you don't mind me asking. And why are you holding clan leader Grishnod prisoner?"

Boomingham burps loudly at the elf and her special titles and what not. As he had predicted, it was one snobby assassin (no surprise that it was an elf!) versus the eight of them.

"More elves. Always with the elves..."

26384151790_967b329e22_t.jpg

"Very well."

"No. I need only keep him captive for a time. He is not mine to free. Or yours, I'm afraid."

Skrall shielded his eyes at the explosion of color and chaos. "Strange ya get left babysittin' as opposed to doin' real assassin's work."

26384151790_967b329e22_t.jpg

"I once was an assassin, but no longer. Each of us has a part to play. Mine is to ensure Grishnod remains here."

"I have been given many such titles. Once, I was a sellsword, a blade for hire. Later, I became a White Assassin, a royal agent of Spesiala. Now some call me a hero because I continue my work, purging my country of evil. The Silken Savior is simply another."

"Grishnod is being held prisoner because it is what I was asked to do. This is a...favor, of sorts. But a beneficial one."

26630640186_9a4481a445_t.jpg

"I have been captive enough for one lifetime," growled Grishnod. Interlaced with his words was a quiet, muffled splintering sound. Evidently he had been saving his strength, because the party could see his binds flexing and tearing against his arms. Vivienne tilted her head sideways a moment, clearly able to hear, but she did nothing.

26384151790_967b329e22_t.jpg

"Is this an issue you intend to force?"

26630637866_44677f7a0c_t.jpg

"Absolutely."
