Ahoy mateys,

A ship - who would have guessed?!

Presenting:

The 'Scimitar'

26583186572_9363b9f679_c.jpg

The Scimitar is a rather unusual sight in the waters of New Terra. She is what most people these days would call a Xebec – a ship type clearly not common to the shipwrights of the Madrice Peninsula. And she wasn't built in Oleon. In fact, her true origins lie to the far south. She was bought by the Royal Shipyards from merchantmen who traded in Granoleon. Merchantmen from the Mokolei Empire, where expertly crafted Xebecs are used vastly as warships as well as traders. The Royal Shipyards were impressed by the Scimitar's cargo capacity, but astonished by her protective capacities. Arming a fast trade ship that heavily is something not very common outside the Rogian Sea, where pirates are a constant menace to merchant ships. But with the ever increasing trade volume here, more pirates are likely to try finding opportunities to prey on unprotected traders in the Eastern Brick Seas, also.

So what better opportunity to learn new concepts and adapt to the new times than to buy a veteran ship, that excelled under such conditions.

The Xebec design is now being studied extensively by the Royal Shipyards' master shipwrights, and the Scimitar has been given Oleander colors.

Now she is ready to sail under her new flag.

And - as always - IFS shaming

about:

This one was a tough one to build. Building the angled poop deck, and attaching it to the rest of the ship - without gravity and the magic capabilities of the opposable thumb - was, well... difficult. So was designing the latin yardarms (or what they are called)

Credits for the 'eye' design go to Dunkleosteus.

Some numbers: She's 92 studs long at the waterline, length overall is 135, and she is 23 studs wide. She's also my first ship to feature completely snoted decks.

For now her intended class is a 5F, but I armed her a bit heavier than the average 5F, so that might change with the new ship list.

I hope you like her,

C&C welcome!

Vive le Roi!

Beautiful ship! I'm always amazed at the smooth lines you get. I have much to study on this one!

Are those the new Nexo Knights shields around the stern? And where does that fence/railing piece come from?

Wow, me like!!

Those nexo shields are so wonderfull for this use!

Not the first Xebec in Terraversa waters (I think the fourth one), but definetely the most beautifull ornamented one!

Oh gods! Altough you have build a lot of amazing ships, this is defrnitely my favoured! The sails, the fences, the colourscheme... Gorgeous!

Curses! You are setting the bar so high... Beautilful lines, and I like how you help shape the Molokei Empire with your story. The bow, with the eye:

I do hope she would be eligible for a bigger class ship though. We need a roof some time in the future for the biggest classes, and we are starting to see some grand vessels already.

Shiver me timbers, I agree.

I can see the advantage of LDD design - you certainly don't need to spend a fortune to get those nexo shields in unlimited numbers and arbitrary colours... pirate_laugh2.gif

Ha, but we have the advantage of stepping on bricks with bare feet and losing precious bricks to the vacuum cleaner ... pirate_look.gifpirate_cry4.gif

Ok, back to the MOC: Large & great!

I am not such a Xebec fan, but this one is really good-looking.

Still laughing after 10 mins! How true...

KB you never cease to amaze me!!!!! This beauty is yearning to be completed with real bricks... SOMEONE make it happen plz plz plz!!! It would be a pleasure to invest my money on such beauties! And above all, the Oleander finesse!! Beat this Greenies and Corries!

I was already thinking about asking the pieces list to KoloniamBeamter. I am fascinated by Xebecs since very long, and I really love this lego version!

The Xebec is one of my favourite vessel-types, and this is one of the finest examples I have ever seen in Lego! :pir-sweet:

The size is nearing real minifig scale, I would say - don't think I have seen such a large xebec before - and I too would wait for the MRCA 2.0 to decide on final licensing.

Can it all be built in the brick? (Apart from the sails)

I think, technically that rear deck is a quarterdeck, not a poopdeck, but I am not sure. Etymology aside, it looks brilliant, and the use of those shields is very effective. To think that Nexo-knights actually gave us something useful? :pir-oh:

The overall slope of the hull, with the sloping quarterdeck is great. I wonder at your choice of ladders leading up to it, though - they seem rather impractical.

The railings are looking great, and very ornamental, as does the gunports and bow.

Both swivels and mainguns are well built too, although it can be hard to make out the details.

The two-part lateen yards are great, as is the shape of the sails, but I am wondering if not the masts are too thin for such a large vessel?

Overall, great job, and I wonder what will come out of studying these plans! Really cool that you "build" into the cultures of some of the lesser known empires of the BoBS world. :pir-blush:

A beautiful vessel! She looks the part of an exotic and swift ship. My only quibble is that it's very forward-heavy on the guns. Perhaps 4-6 smaller guns or carronades on the quarter deck to balance it out.

I was thinking today of how to build an eye on a ship, great suggestion you have there :classic:

And of course the ship as a whole is great as usual!
