I'd be interested in:

  • 8288-style crawler crane
  • backhoe
  • construction excavator
  • scheuerle/self-steering trailer + truck
  • unlicensed supercar with advanced suspension & steering geometry (cheaper if unlicensed)
  • mining excavator
  • dragline excavator
  • snowgroomer
  • truck + palfinger Z (or M) crane

I really want to see:

1. a large-scale, very detailed, power functions driven locomotive

2. fully detailed trophy truck, complex suspension geometry

I'm going to go off a little on a tack -

Lego is a great 'construction medium' and I believe that TLG has missed out on the entire 'modelling' fraternity. Having pre defined kits is of course a good start for modellers. The GBC efforts show what creativity is really out here. I'd like to see TLG actively keep LDD up to date and add some features and support that effort by having a bulk discount (10+ or 100+ of same part) added to pick-a-brick. I'd like to see the LEGO Ideas program include designs for models that would not be considered for commercial kits, but serve as a venue for modelers of all genres.

The ideas above of the Shipping center would give a great exposure to large cranes, boats, trucks and other bulk handling.

The detailed, larger, locomotive idea is excellent, not necessarily for a full layout, but as a display model operating on a short section of track, lets say 2 -3 times the length of the model. Since parts on rolling stock are usually linear, detailed freight cars and others would look great.

The whole area of extraction mining including oil wells, Excavators, Mill equipment has some fantastic opportunities.

Now before the flame pens get going----I know that a lot of these are being built and shown on MANY different sites --I know that parts are available through Bricklink -- It's just that I'd like to see The Lego Group take the lead and consolidate all of the various on-line sites.

Machinery stated in here is pretty much the same as on "Future Technic wishlist" we had a while ago. With an addition of "Ultimate" word.

Basically the same, but different.

I'd like to see a musical instrument of some kind. A harpsichord style keyboard with action for example. Doesn't have to make a good tune, just demonstrate principles like most other sets.

or something programmed as a tune with racks on a card like the old ideas set crane

Back on topic :classic: I'd like to see a really good bus/coach it's an area Lego have never gone with Technic.

I was actually thinking the other day I hadn't seen a technic bus, even as a MOC (though no doubt someone's done it)... maybe something decent sized with most features implemented (functionally, not just stickers):

- Windscreen wipers

- Raising and lowering for ease of access (mixed with suspension?)

- Opening and closing doors at front / middle

- RC steering / drive (in this case gears could simply be a nice to have and not too important)

That's what I'm wondering on as well... What is actually required to elevate a technic set from a Flagship model (we usually get one each year), to an "Ultimate" tier - it's kind of why I'm a little dismayed at Lego's current answer of an expensive but (seemingly) functionally lacking Super Car (but this may grow on me over time?!?)

  • 1 month later...

In June 2016 LEGO released a new Technic subtheme, the Ultimate series.

For now we only have the infamous 42056, but what other cars / vehicles / machinery would you want to buy with this kind of treatment?

For me, I would like a big airplane, with realistic control surfaces and turbofan engines.

Maybe a Pagani Huayra with all the aerodynamic flaps adjustable from the cockpit?

Or maybe a gigantic model of a V8 engine with transparent cylinders. With detail of course - the intake and exhaust valves should open and close, and the fans/turbochargers shoudl also work. Wouldn't be pneumatic, but a motor to show the V8 working would be nice. Maybe a gearbox attached to it as well.

You can combine this wishlist and ask for a Ferrari Sky Jump V95 Dualsteer

Yes! Never seen such an amazing car...

The same question has been raised before and similar questions have been raised before and before and...

If the idea is to help or influence TLG in deciding what (ultimate) sets they could come up with next, then I think it would be better to stick to a single thread.

Besides that - and this has been mentioned in one of the 'before'-topics too - if you want to sell your case, then sell it with a good story and not just by calling names of vehicle or machines that you wish to have. Especially when a set is supposed to be 'ultimate' - and we now know what TLG means with 'ultimate' - it should represent a real-life machine / vehicle that a lot of people connect with. It is clear that TLG wants to appeal to an even broader audience with the 'ultimate' series than TLG does with the Technic theme itself. Here's a list of things that - I think - we should take into account for future 'ultimate' sets:

- It should represent a machine/vehicle that is well-known all over the world, something legendary

- It should appeal to a broad audience, broader than just Technic fans

- It should have state-of-the-art Technic functions and at least one Technic feature that hasn't been in any set before

- As 'ultimate' aims for a wider audience; it should be buildable by newbies

.. and I probably missed some.

Just my thoughts on what we could do to help TLG decide what to come up with next...

If LEGO really wants an ultimate set try a folding crane like the MK88. Now that's Technic. :classic:

Why can't we have something different, like , a planets orrery? Could have lot of gears and interesting working mechanism

Probably because it wouldn't sell very well.

now that would be really interesting, although to be ultimate, youd also have to make it 6 or 7 axles, just to be over the top.

I like the idea of a detailed engine, maybe a cutaway of a classic V8, incorporating a PF motor to turn it and show the moving components. There could be a nice link to a Creator set of an associated muscle car that used the V8. Perhaps an AC Cobra?

That way there is something for everyone.
