Lovely MOC, the mansion is very reminiscent of ones I've seen throughout my travels in the Caribbean. The vibrant colors mixed with the white detailing ... would not look out of place in the Bahamas one bit.

That looks great! The grounds, minifig posing and the forced perspective on the roof make this a masterpiece!

Captain, there is no reason whatsoever that you should be 'stylistically correct' in any aspect of this build or any other. The fact is that architecture is so vast and varied that there is a prototype for almost anything we build, and certainly for mansions exactly like yours. As you said about your pediment, the tendency is always to build something that works, and of course real builders have always done that too. Its just that in my own builds my preference is for 'stylistically correct' architecture even if that means wrestling with some awkward Lego challenges. By 'stylistically correct' I simply mean deriving from buildings generally regarded as superlative examples of their style, like the ones I hyperlinked in my previous post. Whereas other people want to be much more experimental in their MOCs or just have fun or build something they'd like to live in themselves. Anyway Vanbrugh broke the rules all the time; just look at this thing (its just up the road from where I live actually). And what really matters is that we enjoy our own builds and admiring other people's.

That house from Brickshelf that you hyperlinked is gorgeous, I totally love it! The frieze is especially clever. Is it one of your own MOCs? But square leaded mullion windows like that suggest an earlier period; Queen Anne buildings generally have rectangular sash windows. Though as I said, none of that really matters!
