Hi, i need an advise from technic experts: do you think 550€ is a fairy price for a used gmk6400 moc( 42009 complete set + all the parts and PF to build gmk6400)?

Is this set enjoyable or better buy 42030 and 42043?

450 would be my limit,.

Your questions are kinda two-fold and don't seem to have much to do with one another. 550 might be a fair price, but that may have little to do for you as to whether it is worth it for you. You will get a lot of opinions about your second question. Be sure you recognize the difference between that and your first question.

If you are new, or just returning from a dark ago to Technic, you may want to stick with 42030 and 43. They will be easier, but still a challenge, and will give you some good experience and insight into techniques that are commonly used. In addition, if you have been away or new, it will help orient you to some new pieces. I have not build the GMK 64000 crane, but i have followed the thread closely and build my own version of a large crane (before GMK came out). GMK crane is much more complex and the instructions are not as straight-forward as regular Lego instructions. Either way...... you will have a blast and cannot go wrong. Good Luck!

You need around 250€ for PF parts and 150€ for 42009. And you still need around 2000 to 3000 parts depending from version of chassis and superstructure. Just my quick calculation.

This set is much more enjoyable than 42030 and 42043, but also harder to built. It also took much more time to finish it than regular set. I finished in 16 hours, where i only needed 8 for 42043 (i am slow builder ;) ).

Thanks for the replies: i'm not new to Lego, my return from dark age was a Bricklinked "Cafè corner" and now I almost finished a 10179 modified Millennium Falcon about 6000 pieces. I am new to Lego technics so my confusion about the choice come from this: i'd like something challenging but I wondered also which could be more enjoyable after the build.

if you are not familiar with Technic and building mechanisms (looking at your brick type examples) or installing multiple modules together and trying to simultaneously align long buried shafts and a dozen pins I would suggest you don't start with gergers masterpiece and go for factory options instead.

If you are familiar and want a challenge, it's a great one.

Get the two below ... Fun builds that'll last hours. Of course, if you like the 42009, you should get it ASAP as it's nearing the end its production cycle, and prices WILL go up.

The two below will give you a taste of all modern Technic has to offer: Power functions, pneumatics, tracked vehicles, neat suspension ...

Just focusing on the technic flagships, i recently finished the 42043, and had built the 42009 last year - i'm building 42030 currently.

42009

- has power functions and LA's (Linear actuator)

- nice big crane harking back to the 8421 (slightly smaller but used pnuematics)

- outrigger feet automatically extend/retract... This is a unique feature of this set and works well enough

- I found the functions in this set seem to be under a lot of strain, there is a mess of shared axels and gear rings in it, which is nice and complex but I think also adds friction issues (I'm exacting with getting gears placed just right, but just couldn't get this model to a point I was happy with)

- complex to build

42043

- has power functions, an LA, pnuematics with compressor, suspension (which is quite fun to assemble imo)

- could be compared back to the Unimog a few years ago, imo the 42043 is the superior model

- outriggers get a new large custom part, and extend out, but the feet do not autoextend like the 42009 (i doubt we'll see that feature again as implemented in 42009)

- I really enjoyed building this model, but getting the pneumatics routed just right took a lot of care, for me the pnuematics work well, but I have read that is not the case for all

42030

- power functions (lots, I think it might have one of each motor) and LA's plus full drive RC

- I'm still building this model, the build is fun enough, but I think the impact of this model will be when it's completed and driving around.

From a collectors point of view, the 42009 won't be around much longer if you can even find it now so you may want to strongly consider it!

i really wanted that model having missed the 8421, but for me personally I would put the 42043 above it, and am likely to feel the same about 42030 (but will hold judgement till the model is finished). But I certainly don't regret getting any of these models, they're all great!

Finally I decided for the Gmk6400: the challenge begins.

I built this MOC and it was a great build. I decided not to take it apart and keep it for my collection!! Have fun!!
