This morning I felt like the luckiest 34-year old junior high history teacher in the world. This other teacher, who a son who just graduated from high school, mentioned that they were taking all of his LEGO to a Goodwill/Thrift store kind of place to get rid of it. She said it was either that or the trash, so she figured she'd just dump it. So I said, "why not give it to me? I've got two boys who are just starting to get into LEGO, and I love it myself..." and she said okay. That was yesterday.

This morning, she brought it in. Two huge tubs filled with parts, almost 200 minifigs in a big Ziploc baggie, and the instruction manuals for more than 100 different sets. I stopped counting after sorting through the first 100. The best part is that it looks like it's mostly stuff from my own "Dark Age" : about 1990 - 1999. So it's a lot of stuff I either didn't own or didn't even know existed. Some great Wild West stuff, Insectoid (is that a theme?), Underwater stuff, Castle, Johnny Thunder...man. There's a lot of good stuff there. And there are about ten Star Wars sets--mostly the first wave of stuff. I already have most of that, but things like the first Y-Wing/Darth Vader's TIE (which I never got around to buying), Snowspeeder, X-Wing...

Yeah. So let people know you're still a LEGO maniac. Sometimes it pays off. And it paid off BIG today.

Can't wait for my Christmas break... :)

hey congrats on ur huge "christmas gift"! Man.. how do i wish i have friends like urs! :-D

I had the same experince like urs.. but in mine, the Lego was already halfway to the dumpster. An unknown neighbour of mine threw away an entire Freestyle bucket, with a few other parts which I dun actually know where it came from. But no minifigs. heh.. *wacko*

You can read abt it here. Lego treasures :-X

A similar thing happened to me a few years ago. My Mom's coworker's son was trying to sell all of his toys to buy an amp for his guitar. He researched LEGO on eBay and so they were going for about a dollar a pound. Which is crazy. I don't know where he did his research but that's inaccurate. So my mother bought them off of him for me and it had the 6090 Royal Knight's Castle and a bunch of Star Wars and Aquazone stuff. I paid about $50 for it. I auctioned all of the Star Wars figs-that I already owned-off on eBay for about $150. It's a good idea to let people know you're into LEGO because they'll think of you when they find stuff like that. You never know when someone will find you a monorail... 8-|

That is a great deal! You certainly did strike lucky! My best friend used to play with Lego but does not now, so I am trying to convince him to sell/give it to me. He has around 8 tubs of the stuff, unfortunately it is all spare parts, only about 2 actual sets and even worse, their are Meg@bl0ks mixed in with them. :-X

That's a great find JediKermit! My friend has like 4 buckets of Lego he doesn't use and numerous sets mixed in those buckets. He will only sell them for 50$ a bucket! *sing* That's too much!

:'-(

Awesome story.

Mrs S is a teacher - she's told her class that I am an AFOL - you never know...I might strike lucky one day!

Dr. S.

can i be friends with your friends? :-P >:-)

no such luck for me... unfortunately. :-P

on an off-topic note: i was browsing amazon.com and came across $249 wii...wanted to pull the trigger but it was all gone in mins. secs even. :'-( i have very bad luck.

Nice story, you lucky ba... one! *sweet* *y*

I spread the world that I love LEGO. My friends don't want to sell they're LEGO because they think someday they will play again with it, because they here me talking about LEGO with love.

:-$

Daaamn, i wish I was that lucky... :'-(

the closest thing I had to it was a friend who gave me his entire collection of Dragon Ball Manga... He wanted to dump them, saying it was too childish to keep them...

But never with LEGO... It's even the other way around : my parents almost gave my collection away behind my back... They did the same with my TMNT collection (but that one wasn't so bad, since they were taking the dust anyway). Fortunately, I stopped them in time for my LEGO. I don't think I'd have spoken to them ever again if they had succeded...

But hey! Christmas came early to you! Hope you'll enjoy them

Must spread the news! I'm a TFOL, gimme your unwanted Lego! :-P

You're a very lucky guy, jedikermit! What a bonus! Thinking back, my mate (who's not that into Lego) got a small pile of it from his neighbour and old teacher, which had about 6 pirate Imperials in it, along with some muskets and pistols! I didn't think much of it then, but now maybe I can convince him to give it up! That kind of Lego was before I discovered Lego!

~Peace

Great story! I was given two moon plates the other day from a freind of mine who has a quite decent old space collection that he hoards for no good reason... I really should offer to buy it off him. :-D

You never know when someone will find you a monorail... 8-|

The friend I mentioned above has a space monorail... *wub*

Congretulations, jedikermit!

I envy you! But perhaps the same story will come to pass me, too :-D since I will be teacher in some years, too. - But regrettably this will take yet at least three and a half years studies :-/ plus two years traineeship. Hopefully I'll be engaged in the civil service after that time - the state is saving, so you never know. But I'm still optimistic.

But if teacher or not - you should never hide your liking for Lego. Why? There is no reason for hiding because Lego is someting brilliant! *y*

Excellent advice that I've had good luck with as well. Nothing spectacular in LEGO, just a few buckets with a small set or two mixed in, but it's free LEGO that came out during my dark ages as well, so I'm not complaining.

I've had even better luck with video games. It's amazing to me that people will spend many hundreds on a console and games and then decide one day that it's time to trash it. Oh no, it's never time to trash it when I'm around. I never owned an original NES in the day, but now I have 3 and about 100 cartridges, plus as many SNES consoles and a lot of other odds and ends (Atari Jaguar ... odd and end there...).

Bottom line, it pays to let people know what you like and that you're willing to 'help them out' by disposing of said things for them. ;-)

It's better for the planet as well. (ok, it delays the inevitable I guess, but allow me that one delusion) X-D

Recycle On! *y*

That's a great story! Nothing like that has happened to me before, the closest I've got to that is the occasional lot of lego that comes up in our local auction house every three years or so... I picked some up cheap only last week! (and it included a monorail... *wub* )

Unfortunately, nothing's happened to me either. It almost could have once, when one of my friends sold his old Lego, but bizarrely only remembered about my love for it after he'd sold it. |-/

Congratulations on you haul, though, jedikermit.

That's a great story. In the Netherlands it is sometimes you can only got some very old lego and you just pay for it like it's made of gold, with sentences like "It is indestructable" etc.

But I got onetime some pieces from someone, but it can be handy

Well my parents know this guy who thought it would be a good idea to buy 2 of each set from the major themes from about 1997-99 I havn't bothered driving down yet... when i met him he wanted me to go to the lego store with him, then to his house :-P

that's a little creepy... 8-|

I'm still hoping my neighbor will decrease the price for his buckets of Lego, or just give them to me for free! X-D

He's got a bunch of old stuff in those buckets... :'-)

Wow... you got a lot. Now all the more reason to let the world know I love LEGOs :P Everyone at school knows, if they hold it against me, and judge me bad for liking LEGO, well then they aren't worth my time, so who really cares? If they are fine with me liking LEGO then its fine that they know. So either way, who cares! If anything good things like this happen! Thanks for sharing the story and congrats on the stuff!
