And why choose the crowkiller model that has free instructions? Why not compare Jeroen's model to another one that is charging money for them? Well, starting a war really isn't my intention, but if it would turn out that way it may not be a good idea after all. It's just that I know @brickhank built the Scorpion too and I'm interested to know the differences in building style. Not to judge which one is better, just a side by side building experience comparison of two great MOCs. Edited March 11, 20177 yr by Didumos69
March 11, 20177 yr @Didumos69: No problem, I will post my experiences with Jeroen's MOC here. BTW: I expect it to be very positive based on what I saw thus far... I just de-assembled the Scorpion today and will start the build tomorrow afternoon. @Meatman: no worries, I will not go into judging which one is better. I will just objectively feedback my experience with this MOC, just as I did with the Scorpion. Isn't that part of what this forum is intended for anyway; sharing experiences ?

I don't think that it would be fair to Jeroen if you compare his model to another model in his own thread and possibly say that his model doesn't quite shift as smoothly, the suspension is weak, or the chassis isn't as stiff, which could lead people to say "Oh, I am not going to pay 20 euro for that when I can build another model that has free instructions" From what I've seen, Paul and Jeroen both had very different goals when they each designed their models. I've built Paul's Scorpion and while it's gearbox system isn't quite as complex as Jeroen's, it does work flawlessly. Now Jeroren has more going on in this model, so if something didn't quite work perfectly every time, I would be a little more lenient rather than just say "Paul's works better".

This is not the place for a real comparison. I guess I am just being excited to hear from @brickhank about his building experience just like he shared his Scorpion building experience with us. No need to compare the individual models. Now let's get back on topic.

I'm looking forward to that. It is not very often that I get feedback after the model is built by others. 5 hours ago, Aventador2004 said: How are the instructions going? March 14, 20177 yr The build is progressing well: Respect for @legolijntje for making these clear instructions for such an advanced design; and @Appie and @Blakbird of course for their contributing to this amazing MOC ! Although I am not even nearly halfway in the process, I am already appreciating the technical complexity and functionality of the model... (nice job @Jeroen Ottens) Edited March 15, 20177 yr by brickhank
March 15, 20177 yr I loved building this as well, there was never a dull moment, you would always be working on some functionality on the model and/or using interesting building techniques for the body.
March 19, 20177 yr Latest update: Some attention points I noticed: the black flex axles (L 16) at the back fenders seem to be just too long (notice the curves sticking out at the backside ...) ? operating the shifting mechanism from the HOG-position needs quite some "impulse" to hop into the next gear (although I think this is unavoidable because of the torsion weakness of the axles all the way to the front side ?) the frame and bodywork seem to be quite robust and the techniques used for the bodywork are indeed sometimes quite interesting, like @Appie already mentioned Still enjoying the building process very much and looking forward to complete it soon Keep you informed...
March 19, 20177 yr The shift from 4th to 5th requires some extra force indeed, it's because at that point there are 3 rubber bands being engaged for that shift. 1-4 and 5-8 should be smooth though, as well from the HOG and the paddles. Jeroen Ottens warned us about the 16L axles during test building to wait until the model was finished to judge. The black soft axles follow a curve present on the real life model, where it's also black. They come pretty close to that with the way they are mounted. So you might like those axles later in the build.
March 23, 20177 yr Would love to use all those 5*7 frames and parts from the Porsche to do this kind of stuff I don't have the Porsche yet. But definitely on to do list
March 24, 20177 yr I completed the build of this amazing MOC; here's a few quick shots: And a few shots with open doors and hood (especially for @Meatman): As you can see the level of detail is impressive, even on the inside ! I really liked the building process. It was sometimes not easy, but in the end it was very rewarding Again many thanks and respect for @Jeroen Ottens, @legolijntje, @Appie and @Blakbird for making this possible General impressions: Level of detail is very impressive ! Building techniques used are creative and functional. Great overall functionality. Robust overall build quality. Shifting gears sometimes needs quite some impulse / torsion (see earlier posted attention points). Due to the weight of the model, the springs have a hard job, resulting in some friction of the wheels against the headlights (I think) "driving" the car (this isn't the biggest issue for me, as I personally prefer small gaps between wheels and fenders , but I can imagine that if you want an ultimately playable version, you should add some spring stiffness or increase this gap somehow). => corrected after a tip from @Appie (see update below). And last but not least: I am very happy that someone here on the forum persuaded me to also buy the electrical parts; it's really an added value (and added functionality) to this model... Highly recommended to any serious AFOL that loves supercars !! Edited March 26, 20177 yr by brickhank
March 24, 20177 yr Wow! I didn't know there was so much detail in it. I am not often tempted to build otherones MOCs - I started some but stopped because I had different ideas - but this one really makes a chance! Edited March 24, 20177 yr by Didumos69
March 24, 20177 yr @Didumos69: you can always contact me for any of your specific questions regarding my experiences with this MOC. A final picture with the functionality of the lights:
March 24, 20177 yr This MOC is just .....WOW ! It is so awesome and the details are incredibile ! Next step for this Aston , HoF Amaizing job Jeroen Ottens ! Edited March 24, 20177 yr by IA creations
March 24, 20177 yr I see that this model was blogged on The Brothers Brick. Too bad they didn't mention that instructions are available.

I see you didn't mount the PF lights on the upper lights straight/leveled like the ones that turn, this should prevent the touching of the lights when the model is on the floor. However, they will still touch when the suspension is fully compressed from my experience. No big deal imo. 23 hours ago, Didumos69 said: Wow! I didn't know there was so much detail in it. I think the best comment I got for this model from Jeroen when I showed it was "detail p*rn", which sums it up nicely imo I'd say go for it, it's seriously the best thing you can do with a Porsche set (62% of the parts already there).

Works fine now after correction. (and I agree it's no big deal regarding the fully compressed suspension)
