well, it certianly would be good, i just have the feeling that Games Workshop might get the hobbit figures as well as thelord of the rings figures they got before. Who would want that? :P

The only issue I can see is the cost of the rights. Given the box office take of the Lord of the Rings films, there's undoubtedly going to be the perception that anything Jackson-Tolkien related is a license to print money. As such, the licencing fees for Hobbit film(s)-related merchendise could potentially be very costly for the TLC.

I'm not so sure that TLC couldn't afford it. Art Asylum/Minimates bought the rights to produce small, blockish action figures for the LotR film. AFAIK, Art Asylum is a much smaller company than TLC, so if they could afford it, I imagine that our favourite Danish company could acquire The Hobbit licence.

While I'm a fan of the Hobbit, I'm really enjoying the current fantasy-infused Castle line and would hate to see it end untimely to make way for (another!) licensed line.
I really like this year's Castle line too but given a choice between it and a Hobbit line, I'd go with the latter. For one thing, it would be cool to have an official Gandalf minifig and some elves. My only regret would be that, as licensed product, they would be fleshy (yuck! >:-( ).

Hmm.... I´m not sure about that.... why to buy the license from the movies if you could buy just the license from the books, i.e. J.R.R. Tolkien´s heirs...?

The sets would, if made well, rock nevertheless.... and in yellow. *y*
