Elephant Knight Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 I present to you my latest ship, the brig Renown. HMS Renown by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr I wanted to make a ship in the colours of the original Imperial Flagship, as it had been awhile since I had done so. HMS Renown by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr She carries 28 guns, 16 on the gundeck, and another 8 up top, plus 2 bow chasers, and two stern chasers HMS Renown by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr I actually did a bit of editing on the photos. I normally just take em and post em. HMS Renown by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr I am very pleased with how the stern turned out. HMS Renown by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr I used the Captain Green Hair frigate tutorial for a lot of help, especially at the bow. azog Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 That is a very beautiful ship you made there! I like how you used the sails from the original imperial flagship! The back of the ship is beautiful for sure with all those windows. I'm not entirely sold on the blue and white for the British. I think a white hull with red gun hatches would have looked better but hey its not my ship. Overall though I really like the look of the thing! Good job! Also is that the cat minifigure series figure as a figure head?? That is fantastic use of it and a tongue twister isn't it. Haha Quote
Legostone Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Fantastic Brig you have there! Great use of CGHs technique! I think this is the first time I'm seeing this elaborate rigging combined with the original rigging pieces, its a good idea well executed! Those anchors look interesting, could you provide a picture of them? Quote
Cousarmy0001 Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 I would have glowing reviews of this ship, but there is one glaring deficiency that completely ruins it for me. It's a redcoat ship. Quote
Staslegomaster Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 It's a fantastic redcoats ship. A good idea to put together the original small ship with its flags-sails and the new larger one. I hoped LEGO would issue such flag-sails for bluecoats in 2015 but this time there was no ship at all for them. Quote
Franco Clarke Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 I love this ship, for me it has the perfect mix of classic pirate style and historical accuracy! It fits in with the imperial flagship really well, How did you get the pattern onto the sails? Quote
Elephant Knight Posted May 23, 2016 Author Posted May 23, 2016 Thanks for the replies! Azog, no, I won't give it red cannon flaps. It has blue to match the Imperial Flagship set. It is not the cat minifigure, it is that gold warrior dude form series 15. I will try and get a picture up soon of the anchors. Cousarmy0001, Nothing I can do about that, but my next ship I plan on building is for the blue Coats. Franco Clarke, I bought cloth from Walmart, cut a couple pieces to paper sized, and stuck them in the printer, then cut out the pattern and glued it to the sail. EKnight Quote
Captain Braunsfeld Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 That is a great ship with all its details, the playability and the custom rigging. I need to learn how to do that. Quote
BrickPerfection Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 The vintage feel and sails really do give it an appeal. To me it feels like the flagship that Lego did never make back in the original, classic pirate days. Would be nice to compare to the comparatively smaller pirate ship maybe (which should really have been a sloop). Nice work! Quote
Elephant Knight Posted May 23, 2016 Author Posted May 23, 2016 Thanks for the comments! I have the requested close up of the anchor: Anchor by Elephant-Knight, on Flickr EKnight Quote
iammac Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 EKnight, you have shamed the original flagship! This is a gorgeous vessel! Quote
GeoBrick Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 I own the old Imperial ship, but its been a while since I assembled it. A bit shocking to see it looks so tiny compared to your brig. Quote
Ratshot Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 A very impressive ship! It has a very clean look to it and strongly reminds me of some of the older ships from the early days of the Class Pirates lineup. Thanks for sharing this Quote
