Magmafrost Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 (edited) Really not sold on that Thrawn face, its horrible. I mean, we've been waiting for... how long? since the start of lego star wars in 1999 at least, for a Thrawn minifig, and this is what we get? Come on TLG, you can do better than that. You could've done better than that in 1999... The Phantom itself actually looks really cool though, which I didn't expect, so I guess I'll buy it anyway. Yoda's Starfighter also looks a lot better than I expected, the prelims really badly didn't do that thing justice. Huge props to the designer on that one, that's a seriously hard design to do well. ToaDraco Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 (edited) I'm really happy with Yoda's Interceptor! It looks much better than the previous leaks indicated. the Phantom set is also really great. the build looks really good and the figs are nice. I never read the Thrawn books, though I've been familiar with him for years, so I'm not that picky about him, I'm just glad we're getting some legacy characters in offical canon. I really like the Shoretrooper buildable figure. The duel set is a disappointment but I like the Scariff battle set. I love the figs in the Y-Wing and the ship itself is very well done I'm just not a fan of Y-Wings. Edited November 20, 2016 by ToaDraco Quote
Mark1006 Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 Is Yoda's Starfighter potentially the last Clone Wars set we'll ever get? IIRC, it's from the very last episodes ever released. Quote
RetroInferno Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 Let's judge Thrawn when we'll get the high-res images. Right now it's too blurry too judge IMO. Quote

Your right though that was from the tartakovsky 2003 clone wars short series, which is still by all means cool they made it. I wish TLG would make sets based off things that they haven't made yet instead of rereleases every year unless it hasn't been made for a long time. Quote
Artanis I Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 That particular blue on Thrawn makes him look a bit like a smurf Quote

Yeah, it's nice to keep things fresh, like Yoda's JSF. It came out of nowhere. I'm quite surprised that this wave is so lacking on Rebels sets, other than the Phantom 2.0. One would think that Lego would capitalize on the TV show, given the copious amounts of sets they released from The Clone Wars... And it's not like Rebels has a shortage of new, interesting vehicles either. EDIT: I don't mind Thrawn's facial expression, but I can't get over his lack of red eyes. It's such a characteristic feature of Thrawn. Hopefully the final product features red eyes; what we have is just a blurry pic. Edited November 20, 2016 by Aethersprite Quote

Australian retailers are refusing to stock any Rebel sets outside of the store exclusives while the TIE Advanced/A-Wing set is already on its way to being retired despite only being available for a mere 5 months. How do you know this? Because if it's true it could explain a lot about lack of new Rebels sets. But then again other toy makers are making more Rebels toys, so I hope your info is wrong. I mean summer waves 2 biggest sets were Rebels based AT-TE and Combat Frigate, and 2015 Tie Advanced prototype and At-Dp sold well. Quote

Well, the TIE Advanced/A-wing being so horrifically overpriced and never once discounted probably didn't help. As for this idea that retailers are refusing to stock rebels sets, is there any official statement that suggests that being the case? Only three Rebels sets were outright not stocked in retailers (Azure angel, TIE/A-wing and Rex's AT-TE), and as far as I can find it was Lego that chose not to ship them here. I also doubt any manager of any store would be able to tell the difference between different subthemes of lego star wars. Quote

I am not surprised. The vehicles of the Rebels (and TCW as well) look good, but the minifigs are horrible, because they are made to represent the animation style in the series which is toy-like and dumb. If they made the Rebels sets with accurate looking minifigures, I bet they would sell much better. (and then the new minifigures from the Rebels sets would fit in with your original collection, too.) The reason e.g. the TIE-Advanced prototype sold well is probably because it did have good-looking minifigures. Both the inquisitor and especially the new dark tan imperial officer were made to be more like standard minifigure line instead of that Rebels toy-like line. I have not spared a single euro on TWC or the Rebels for this reason. - Samppu Quote
Forresto Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 Are other retailers actually making many Rebels products? Anytime im in the starwars aisle at Target I barely see Rebels products. I used to see tons but not so much now. Quote
TheBrickHitHouse Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 I'm always left a bit mystified by the Rebel and Clone Wars shows. I appreciate there are die hard fans, but these aren't shows with any real passion behind them - it's mediocre writing and a noteable lack of enthusiasm by Disney to promote these shows. As such, more than happy for Lego to skirt round the whole thing. Quote
Galaad Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 (edited) The Clone Wars was far more scenarized than Rebel. I just can't empathize with them like I did with the Clones and Jedis On an other note, here is Admiral Raddus: Edited November 20, 2016 by Galaad Quote
Helghan Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 The new battle packs look great. I'll use this Imperial wave to outright stock up. I've been amassing Post-Endor forces together for a while now. The rebel pack looks nice too for army building purposes. Depending on the price I may either BL a Y-wing of my own design or pick up the new model. It certainly looks like an interesting wave so far. Quote
ChiefPie Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 That's a really good Admiral Raddus! Quote

I think it's that the artistic direction doesn't translate well into Lego when you're looking for that "cool" factor that sells well. To an outsiders eye who doesn't follow the series and thus doesn't have attachment to any of the characters or vehicles, most of the sets seems to be strangely coloured, bulbous in shape and the minifigs end up being more cartoony than "cool"(Protagonists in an orange jumpsuits and blue hair, sadface stormtroopers etc). When you look at the likes of TCW, the majority of the sets stood perfectly fine on their own. They were far more militaristic, often pretty sleek, had more attractive colour palettes , they had a certain uniformity to them and the minifigs has similar appeals. Add to that the fact that virtually everyone will have seen the movies and will be familiar with Clone troopers, Battledroids and the concept of the robed Jedi/Sith characters mixed in, you've got a winning formula. I think if you were to put a combination of two similar sets in front of a kid, but one was Clone Wars and one was Rebels (75012 BARC Speeder with Sidecar and 75090 Ezra's Speeder Bike, or 7964 Republic Frigate and 75158 Rebel Combat Frigate, etc etc) I think the only scenario where the kid would choose the Rebel set over the TCW one is if he was only familiar with the Rebels TV show. Well, that's only your opinion.....it's not a hard fact these shows have bad writing etc. Clone Wars has some stories that are imho way better than any of the Prequel movies, while Rebels often pays an hommage to the designs of McQuarrie. Deathstroke77 Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 Hooooooly Hannah I've missed a lot. The new sets look awesome! Yoda's Starfighter, man, that's a cute but cool set. Figs are fantastic, and the Starfighter just looks cool all-round. Micro-fighters... Meh, never really liked them. Battle Packs... Well, they're cool I guess. I am a little annoyed that Deathtroopers are being included so cheaply, kinda makes them seem less rare, but that's just me being selfish 'cause I have the Krennic Shuttle. However, they look less detailed on the torso and are missing the pauldron, so I can't be too beaten up. Battle on Scarif is an easy pass, but the two party pieces here are Duel of the Fates and The Phantom. Let's start with the Naboo set. It looks AWESOME. The figs are fantastic, for a start. Maul does have that weird head, but I can just switch it out for an old one, so I'm not too beaten up. The set itself looks fantastic - it might not be a massive set, but what looks to be £30 is good value for such an iconic scene, what looks like a good amount of play features and 3 cracking figs. And now the new Phantom. It's fantastic. It just is. The Phantom itself is really quite colourful, and I like that. The ship looks quite compact and sturdy, and the fact I can already see some spring shooters are a good start. And the figs, well, they're pretty amazing. Chopper, meh, nice to see him I guess. Blind Kanan looks fanastic. That visor piece looks fntastic on him, and fits perfectly. And Grand Admiral Thrawn himself. Anyone who's seen my replies probably knows I was super-hyped to see the fig, and I am not disappointed. He looks fantastic. Like he's been taken straight out of the show and put into minifig form. However. HOWEVER. Where's his red eyes? C'mon LEGO, you made one of the most loved Star Wars characters after 17 years, and didn't use one of his key characteristics? Man, that sucks. However, it's still Thrawn, and he still looks awesome, so I can't complain. What's the price of this? The set kinda says £20 to me, but I imagine it'll be £30. Very happy with the 2017 line-up. Wasn't there a Skiff set that was meant to be out in the Winter Wave too? Is that an exclusive or something? Quote
