Um.. Going back to the sluice with you guys might be a problem. I kind of acted like I wasn't affiliated with you...

The party heads back to the Sluice. The bar was pretty much the same way they left it, with perhaps a few more drinks littering the tables. What would the heroes do?

Ellaria approached the two dwarves and the rockling she had befriended earlier.

"Hi again! I've been looking into this Maggie case with my friends, and we found some odd things. There seem to be tamed wolves prowling the town, do you know anything about that? Or about the old dig site, has there been any activity lately? Seen anyone come and go there?"

I tag along behind Ellaria, not having felt particularly welcome last time around. I smile in a friendly manner to the people Ellaria communicates with.

Kid tries to spot anyone he didn't see the last time.

The crowd was the same, consisting of Vinum the bartender, Rollo the digger, Melvin and Thimlin the sailor dwarves, and Rodney the rockling.

Goliath heads over to where the Dwarves were sitting,

"Who 'ere in town owns Direwolves?"

Thimlin gave a hard stare at Goliath.

"Uh, direwolves?" Rodney looked a little scared. "Zylstra's no place for direwolves. I haven't seen any, but they must have been brought down here by someone. And I doubt that someone has the town's safety in mind!"

Rollo approached the table from his stool at the bar, frowning.

"Like I said earlier, I haven't gone near that place, especially since those sounds started happening. Let me guess, those were coming from your mystery direwolves?" The dwarf shook his head. "Something fishy is going on here. Tell me, heroes, did you find anything else at the dig site?" Rollo watched carefully through his spectacles, clearly suspicious of the heroes.

"Yes, there was some green stuff...um, perhaps Ezeran can explain better than I can. And don't worry, we defeated the direwolves, so you won't be receiving any trouble from them."

"Ah, too bad you can't help us. Perhaps you know something of this substance we found at the dig site? Ezeran, show them."

Ezeran shows some of the green substance that had stuck upon his pickaxe. The symbiont gnarled at the pickaxe. "This is nasty stuff, blocks out ether and magic and it is definitly not mined by the imps."

"Does anyone tickle yer fancy?"

Goliath picks up on Thimlin's stare and silence.

"Ye have not said a word, surely you must know something. Have ye been threatened to remain silent?"

Kid tries to polarize Goliath with a good cop approach. "Slow down there, dude. I'm sure he wouldn't keep any leads to a Zylstran's murder to himself."

Hunkan goes to the barkeep. "Hello. Can you tell me anything about the goings-on at the local dig site?"

Vinum grunted.

"Don't know much other than what the other folks in here already told ya. You'd better not be causing trouble in there."

Rollo picked off a piece and examined it with interest, his expression quickly turning to amazement.

"Unless this is some kind of trick, this... this is Etherium! A mythical mineral that's talked about by miners. I didn't believe it even existed." His expression again turned to suspicion. "You found this at the dig site? Along with the direwolves? Whoever those belonged to knows the value of this mineral. You see, it can dampen and even completely block magical spells and charms if in direct contact with the source. You can imagine why some would want to avoid such things." He gave Ezeran and his symbiont a glance.

"Does anyone tickle yer fancy?"

"Aren't you the detectives here? Figure it out!" The rockling chugged his drink.

"Ye have not said a word, surely you must know something. Have ye been threatened to remain silent?"

"Er... like I said earlier, he don't talk much, by choice rather than threat."

"I hope it's not a battle between the Guild and the Ziegfrieds again. The Guild may have plans to use it against the Ziegfrieds or perhaps the Ziegfrieds were attempting to hide it from the Guild. In any case, it appears that someone was trying to mine it, which is kind of scary.

"Oh, no! That woman with the baron didn't like magic users, maybe she is the one behind it all. We will need to speak to the baron alone, I think."

"Thank you for the valuable information, Rollo. We should show this Etherium to the imps, then." Ellaria prepared to head back to the imps.

"Heroes. What news have you?"

"We investigated the dig site, and found a pack of tame direwolves - ones that likely killed Maggie - guarding a vein of magic-sapping substance that a dwarven miner recognized as Etherium. We vanquished the wolves and took a piece of the substance as proof. Somebody has apparently gone a long way to keep it hidden from public knowledge."

Ezeran speaks up. "You might have to consider that the Crimson Crown is behind this and take appropriate countermeasures, wharever you feel that would be we might consider aiding you further."

Before Sigil could reply, Nahzka appeared behind the heroes without warning. She spoke with her striking yet hypnotic layered voice.

"I see. We suspected something like this would happen. There are ulterior motives at play here, although we imps are still very much wrapped up in this. Heroes, you have completed this investigation and it is you that know the clues and details best. Thus it is up to you to determine who is most likely the master behind the recent events. If you believe you have gathered enough evidence, state your primary suspect. We will proceed from there."
