Ezeran heads over to the window and carefully examines the window for scratch marks and other clues. He then faces Shelby.

"Where were you at the probable time of the murder of miss Shelby?"

Ezeran also adresses Kid. "Could you sift through the pages of the books? There may be clues hidden there..."

I whisper to Ellaria.

"I don't think this place really suits me, and all of those drinks also seem rather unsuitable to me. I wonder why everyone is so unfriendly in this village."

Hunkan approaches the crate full of white round objects, takes one, and looks at it. He tries to act like he knows what he's doing, even though he hasn't found anything useful.

Kid gives the remedy he found to Shelby. Here. Maybe you won't feel comfortable pawning off Maggie's things, but it won't be useful to her, and you could get a decent price for it in your store. Kid flips through pages of the books to see if anything stands out to him such as scribbled notes or highlighted passages.

The window appeared normal, absent of any interesting marks.

"I found her in the morning after she hadn't come downstairs. I was probably asleep when it happened..." Shelby was still visibly upset at the recollection of the memories.

There were a number of scrolls with various things written on them - recipes, random notes, store orders... There was even a small novelty item buried in the stack, an ancient scripture in an old language.

Lord of the Things is incredibly boring and consists of pages upon pages of scenery descriptions. How to Train a Dragon has a few mildly interesting diagrams of dragon anatomy.

"Oh, um, thanks." She takes the bottle and sets it down on a nearby shelf.

"...If you are all quite finished I would like to get back to work..."

"One last questions miss Shelby. Do you suspect that Maggie was or aspired to become a mage or some other kind of magical user?"

"The Sluice is no place for a kid, much less one from Heroica," the bartender replied gruffly.

"I'm sorry that you're having a bad day. I don't think I'll take a drink, unless you have plain water. Are you always this unfriendly to people or have I done something to offend you?"

Hunkan waits for an answer to Ezeran's question before putting the Scroll of Blindness back.

"The menu's right there," he replied rather coldly. "And all drinks will be had here in the Sluice - no to-go's."

"Oh, erm, ye must be from Heroica. What can we help ye with?"

"Like my friend the automaton here said, we are here to look into the murder of one Maggy that occured recently. Maybe we could talk about it over drinks?" Ellaria ordered four glasses of Flame-distilled Brandy and offered three of them to the dwarves and the rockling.

I whisper to Ellaria.

"I don't think this place really suits me, and all of those drinks also seem rather unsuitable to me. I wonder why everyone is so unfriendly in this village."

"It's alright, Petey", Ellaria whispered to the boy. "Adults are often just close-minded and vary of strangers. They will open up once you get to know them a little better."

"Not that I know of. It may be that the scroll was simply a collector's item."

"I'm sorry that you're having a bad day. I don't think I'll take a drink, unless you have plain water. Are you always this unfriendly to people or have I done something to offend you?"

The bartender grunted and slammed a horn of water on the counter.

"As I said, this is no place for your kind."

Goliath speaks to the dwarf with the hat but keeps his eyes on the rockling,

The dwarf shrugged but replied halfheartedly to Goliath. He at least seemed slightly friendlier.

"I was never one for much thinking, but there sure is something off about this whole thing. Tis a real tragedy about Maggie, but this sort of thing is nothing new around here. I mean, murder is new but strange events coming out of nowhere? Seems like the M.O. for... just about everything around here. I'm Rollo, by the way. Town digger."

The crowd seemed to lighten up and took the drinks appreciatively. Ellaria herself felt a warm, tingly feeling from the drink - rather encouraged to converse with the table.

"What does it mean to be the town digger? Are you making the town bigger by digging away at the walls? Have you ever found interesting things in your digs?"

"Collector's item? I have no idea what Maggie was like, but if I had a rare item that I liked, I'd put it somewhere I can see it instead of burying it in a box full of other things... unless I didn't want anyone else to find it."

Kid opens the crate with the silver handle and inspects the papers in front of it.

The box appears to be for food storage. None of it looks very fresh or tasty, save for a few delicious-looking apples.

The papers appear to be shipping manifestos. Various mechanical parts are listed, though none appear to be present in the room.

"Miss Shelby, who or what do you think killed Maggie?" The symbiont sported a grim smile of determination.

Shelby shrugged.

8743579048_3fb02f6e20_t.jpg

"Your guesses are as good as mine. Like I said before, it looks like she died from something biting her. I don't know what it is, but it is most certainly not natural. Why don't you ask your imp friends if they know? Hmpf."

"Boy, you are full of questions. Listen, I don't like being asked so many things all at once. It makes my head hurt. But if you must know, I dig around looking for minerals or anything else of value. There's plenty to explore down here, I don't think all of the tunnels have been mapped out yet. I'll tell you one place I won't go, though. I've heard some strange sounds coming from the dig site to Nu Mercution. I hear that's where the last group of heroes that came down here went. Glad it caved in, but I dunno if anything got out..."

"I am sorry. I've never met anyone that lived underground before, so I'm just curious. You seem to be a fascinating group. Strange sounds coming from there, huh? Are there usually a lot of dangers accompanied with living down here? Have you seen any weird beasts that don't exist up above? And please don't be offended by my questions. You are such a nice, friendly fellow."

I speak charmingly and as diplomatically as I can.

Ellaria raised her cup to the others on the table. "I am Ellaria Arbour, an alchemist at your service. Did we perhaps meet at the Three Dwarven Cities, Thimlin? I was on a mission there to overcome a conspiracy about a year ago. Things took a surprising turn there, as the High Chief was found out to be stealing mythril for his own devilish causes, but eventually we managed to work everything out. Let us hope that such a conspiracy has not struck Zylstra. That Crimson Crown woman that the Baron was consulting did not seem like a very nice person, after all... Would you happen to know anything more about her or the murder of Maggie?"

Ezeran looks around the room for a bed

There is a small bed in the corner. It is unmade.

"Good idea. Maybe we'll find out where the scroll came from and how it ended up here. I have a nagging feeling that it was used by the murderer. Do you mind if we take the magic scroll?"

8743579048_3fb02f6e20_t.jpg

"I don't imagine the murderer would be careless enough to leave his scroll behind, let alone stuff into the bottom of a pile. But I'm not the expert here." Shelby rolled her eyes a little. "Fine, if you think it'll help then take it."

Would you mind if we borrowed these apples Shelby?

"I don't see why those would help you solve this murder..."

Petaldan's diplomatic tone seemed to have little effect on the already-friendly digger. Perhaps the talent would be useful in other situations, however.

8743579052_c559f831e9_t.jpg

"Ahem, why yes. Surely you must've heard about all the troubles we've had down here recently. Moon Elf Shades, Blue Assassins, Sewer Wolves... Tis not a safe place when people come here sticking their noses where they don't belong. Me, I'm careful. I stay away from anything that could lead to trouble. If everyone followed that rule then we would all be much safer. Like that buffoon inventor, U'Reeka... boy did he cause us a lot of trouble." Rollo goes on muttering to himself.

"Off? How so?"

The dwarf named Melvin seemed a little taken aback by Goliath's appearance.

15752057766_89b7d48c3d_t.jpg

"Oh, uh, as I was just tellin' the young pretty lass here, there be a lot of strange events happenin' down here lately. Surely ye must'a heard by now? Anyway, if ye ask me, every place has it's troubles. Here is no different, 'cept the fact that we're sittin' on top of a lotta history and old magic and stuff. Trust me lad, I seen it first hand. All the strange an' unnatural-like seem to be drawn here."

Ellaria raised her cup to the others on the table. "I am Ellaria Arbour, an alchemist at your service. Did we perhaps meet at the Three Dwarven Cities, Thimlin? "Thimlin's a sailor through and through, jus' like me. Ye probably met him on the high seas somewhere. I haven' been beneath Mt. Ulysses since I was a wee lad, but I'm sorry te hear of their troubles. I certainly hope Maggie didn't suffer fer a pile a' gold or mythril. Aye, the Crimson Crown lady... I've run into their kind on a couple occasions... Sometimes it seems like they want te kill ye, others they want te help ye. They helped Heroica with our Moon Elf problem down here, and they did help me crew one time with blowin' a ship full of zombies te Hel."

8743579056_23d9ffa4fc_t.jpg

"Yeah, they're okay in my books. It's good to see that the Baron is finally putting an end to all this magic stuff that keeps happening down here."
