TheDesuComplex Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Again? When was it used before? Sorry, I can't remember. But I agree. Trans red would be most welcome. Looking at Bricklink's entries under Tr. red, it looks like the following constraction parts have come in that color: Vakama's Disk Mata Brainstalk Metru Brainstalk Vahki Brainstalk Hero Core IfB Egg Pod HF Hexagonal Shield That's scattered across 55 Bionicle sets, 14 Hero Factory sets at least. One more will be added this summer at least- Umarak's mask blended in that color. Quote

If someone is removed from our site, it's a sure bet it's because they didn't follow one or more of them. And not all of Eurobricks' subforums record post counts- and depending on the content, not all posts are kept visible to the public eye. But this is not relevant to the 2016 set discussion. Aanchir Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Don't forget the blended flame pieces used by Tahu, Narmoto, and Ikir! Those are one of the most plentiful Tr. Red constraction parts in recent years, even if they're blended. Also Barraki eyes, which have used that color in Bionicle G1, Hero Factory, and even Bionicle G2. In that case, I honestly wouldn't mind if the piece were used more plentifully in fluorescent colors, though non-fluorescent colors are probably more versatile in non-constraction themes since they are good colors for colored lightbulbs. I like Transparent Red, but generally not as an eye color... which is what it's most often been used as in constraction. It doesn't really glow very well. It may work alright for figures like the Bohrok, Vahki, Shadow Traps, and some Rahi where the eyes bulge out from the face, but generally not for characters who wear masks and thus really need the eyes to glow for the color to be very visible. Voxovan Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 I just want transparent red shells, as I'm starting to get tired of orange ones. Next year's Makuta would be a good opportunity to introduce new pieces in transparent red, but knowing Lego, they'll most likely be in orange... Quote

Yeah, I excluded the numerous uses of Bohrok Eyes and the Blended Flames because they are so common. It still isn't as common as some colors. I am alright with this though- Tr. Red is such a deep red that I feel it does not fit in well with a variety of neon and bright colors Bionicle, especially G2, uses. Quote
Dr_Chronos Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Lego has released some new combo models for some of the new Toa, they're a little weird but I'm happy to see any combo models at this point. http://www.lego.com/en-us/club/member/articles/details/bionicle-article-march-1b8e228855014071af3c7e67db6e77f6 Quote
ToaDraco Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 (edited) Lego has released some new combo models for some of the new Toa, they're a little weird but I'm happy to see any combo models at this point. http://www.lego.com/...f3c7e67db6e77f6 They are interesting. "Twotoa" is an interesting name, though it would have been cooler if we got Kaita(though they likely wouldn't be called that). Back on the discussion of trans red, it would look fantastic as both a bone and shell piece and I could see trans red ribcages too, that would be sweet. As much as I wish Makuta will have trans red, we're likely getting more trans orange. *sigh* On that note, I just got Tahu and Ikir leaving me with just Gali and Pohatu with their respective creatures to get. Tahu doesn't look as messy as he does in pictures and I really like the shaping on his back and shoulders. The mask is a nice improvement and the weapon gimmicks are oddly satisfying if not rather pointless. He looks great with Ikir but of all the other Toa I have so far, his combiner form seems the hardest to get to stand up without falling over. I do really wish Tahu had more red and honestly if the trans orange was replaced with trans red, I would be super okay with the lack of solid red but as it is there just isn't enough of it. The bright blue accents are quite nice and I wish there was a little more of it on him. Ikir is fantastic and easily one of the best creatures. Edited March 10, 2016 by ToaDraco Quote

Well, at least they don't look as ugly as the Toa Kaita from 2001 Quote
Logan McOwen Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 (edited) Well, at least they don't look as ugly as the Toa Kaita from 2001 They most certainly don't. I built a copy of the Kopaka & Melum + Gali Twotoa, which I dub Kogala. It looks a little messy, but the build is interesting - especially the shoulder structure and the large, snipping weapon. Some parts of it are a bit questionable though, such as the claws on the back of his legs and that staff/sword/whatever in his left hand. Oh, and he has a monocle! Shakar Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I just realized- his weapon is essentially a gunblade! Quote
Fulcrumfan91 Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I love the scissor function. It's super fun. I'm hoping lava beast has something that is similar....it looks like he might, but we won't know until at least June. Quote
ToaDraco Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 (edited) Awesome, thanks for the pics of the Kopaka/Gali combiner. It looks pretty good and I like the weapons. The monocle is kinda funny and I like the scaled look of the shoulders. If anyone builds the Tahu/Pohatu combiner, please share some pics! Hopefully we'll get the Onua/Lewa combiner soon, I love black and green so hopefully it'll look pretty cool. Edited March 11, 2016 by ToaDraco Quote
Kalhiki Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Wow. That Scissor Gun is impressive. Almost reminds me of some of the over-the-top weapons seen in anime. Actually, the whole model is pretty nice looking. Almost makes me want to get the rest of the figures. Quote
avatarbrickman Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 I knew they put an Anti-stud on Kopaka's mask for a reason! Quote
Lyichir Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 I knew they put an Anti-stud on Kopaka's mask for a reason! Real talk–the ACTUAL reason for the anti-stud, as explained by Christian Minick Vonsild last year at BrickFair New Jersey, is to compensate for the inability to mold the mask so that the eyepiece had a hole that opened directly to the eyes on the head (like last year's mask). It was apparently an issue that arose at the last minute of the design process, and Christian decided that the best fix was to use a 1x1 round plate as the "lens" instead (a change that could be made easily considering the figure was already using 1x1 round plates as ammo for the stud shooter). But yes, this combi model adapting that to make a monocle with chain is nothing short of inspired! Quote
bidiminished Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 So Kopaka's new mask has fake vents, like 3 of the 2015 masks. Do any of the other 2016 masks have fake vents? If Lego couldn't manufacture the masks properly, why didn't they change the design or just make safer designs? Quote

If Lego couldn't manufacture the masks properly, why didn't they change the design or just make safer designs? Because it looks cool, and most people don't really care anyway. It gets the point across clearly, and if you had actual holes in the vents it would look more fake than it does now.. Has anybody seen any good mock-ups of the Summer sets? I've tried looking but I can't find any. I'd attempt to build one myself but I haven't been able to buy any of the Winter sets and/or don't have the parts and time. If Lego couldn't manufacture the masks properly, why didn't they change the design or just make safer designs? What on earth are you talking about, regarding "safer" designs? I assume by "fake vents" you mean ones like the one on the upper left of his jaw, that don't actually have a cavity running through them, but there's nothing "unsafe" about that. It achieves the look they were going for to the best of their ability, while still being able to be molded efficiently. Lego may strive for the best but they can't get everything perfect—the whole reason for the ingenious "lens" solution for the eyepiece on that same mask was the inability to have the eyepiece either filled or totally hollow, a problem that was otherwise unfixable in the late development period after the issue became known. Good design often means making sacrifices. Edited March 18, 2016 by Lyichir Quote
