I agree with Jetrax. I use this site far more than bzp mainly because this place allows leaks. Having bzp as the "official site" that's cosy with lego has its uses, certainly, but in terms of actual discussion, i'd much rather be here discussing anything we can get our hands on.

This leak season is proving to be rather fernickety, huh? Lots of hoaxers running about. I wonder when we'll see something legit...

You know what would be hilarious ? If what Nekchir said was true, but was forced to say that it was a lie in fear of losing his job or some sh#!t.

Did I really just see Lyichir recommend that we become like BZP and limit/prohibit discussion?

I'm sorry, but no! I left BZP because of that, and I'll be darned if EB starts that stuff as well.

Surely there's more to either site than the discussion of leaks? It's not as if leaks are the be all and end all of BIONICLE discussion. Not being allowed to discuss leaks is no different than not having leaks, and that is the status quo for most of the year (anomalies like 2015 notwithstanding.)

Suppose LEGO tightened up its informational-security, such that there were no leaks. Period. Would you abandon Eurobricks?

I'm not Jetrax99, but personally I wouldn't. I would remain here knowing full well that if leaks had have come out, I would have been able to freely discuss them with other users. I respect BZPower's stance on leaks and I respect their administration's choices on the matter. That being said, there's a fine line between having the ability to discuss leaks when they come out and not being able to discuss them either way. In theory, there is no difference: leaks are not discussed either way. In reality, I would stick with EB anyway not for the sheer virtue of being able to discuss them, but because I know that if and when something leaks I'm going to be able to talk about them and not have a gag in my mouth. For me though, I just don't like BZPower's community, but when it comes to the leaks policy I do prefer EB.

Except they are different. I can understand lack of discussion on a topic when there's nothing of note to discuss, but to actively discourage discussion when there IS something to talk about, that is a problem.

I'm not going further into this as it may irritate the mods, but to answer your last question, if Eurobricks started exhibiting some of BZP's antics, I would leave.

I just hope it doesn't come to that.

Now then, OCTOBER! HURRY UP AND GET HERE!

So if Umarak is already on Bionicle's character page, I wonder, does that mean a reveal could be imminent? I've never paid attention to how close news drops after something pops up on Bionicle.com

He's not on the character page, I think you're referring to the Shop at Home page. However, that does not mean a reveal is imminent; I doubt there is. The earliest I predict we'll see an official reveal is at this year's NYCC in October (and I doubt even that). I could be wrong of course, but launching the summer wave just this month and revealing the next soon after does not seem logical.

Since people are clearly looking for a more official word on this,

Yes, this is an issue, an issue that is all the same as when people create fake blurry images and label them as confidential photos to mislead the community- the difference being that it's easier to make people believe you.

While I will not discuss the details of administrative action, do not think that we condone this behavior. The member was taken away from the forum for conversation with the staff before it was even revealed that these descriptions were fake and misleading, and anyone who tries something similar will come across similar consequences.

One member is not a cause for an entire change to our guidelines, and I would suggest no one here assumes they know the relationship that The LEGO Group has with it's affiliated websites and LUGs, because you don't- how policies are handled is a matter of staff-to-Lego, and when things need to be dealt with, that is where those discussions take place.

Will we enforce things differently? If we do, an announcement will be made. Until then, move things along- it's still 2015, there are still people who haven't gotten the summer 2015 sets in stores yet. You don't have to discuss 2016, the world won't end if this thread takes a minute while everyone catches their breath.

it's the internet- you were lied to. Let's not take the next five pages to complain about it. Someone made a mistake and the other staff and I are here to deal with it and prevent it from happening in the future.

Like here in Italy :damn: it's always been september since G1, I don't even know why they still call them summer sets by this point.

Usually in the countries that don't get them in the summer they don't call them summer sets, as far as I know...

I wonder if Lego fans in the southern hemisphere ever get confused by the references to summer and winter sets... :P

Wow, that's some odd. I knew some countries got them slower than others, but by now I expected everyone to have them. How come they don't release things in the same region at the same time?

The release hasn't exactly been very thorough over here (the UK) though either. I've only seen S@H and Lego stores with the sets, none in Argos (although they were slow with the first wave of sets) and none in Smyths (which is normally quite efficient).

Edit- Ah... I just realised this is a 2015 thing in the 2016 thread. Sorry about that.

Technically September IS Summer. : P But yeah, that's why I always get the Summer sets via S@H. But I'm waiting this time, because I want to savour them. And.. I gotta study. And.. I'm broke.

Seems like Argos is beginning to give up on selling Constraction altogether. They've suddenly gone from usually being the first to get summer wave Bionicle sets to not stocking them at all. And I fear that this is a trend that's going to continue into 2016, so if you want the 2016 sets in the first few weeks of January in the UK, LEGO Store is the best option. It's almost like Bionicle gets little love from the UK :look: (btw, I've seen the sets in TRU and The Entertainer, but nowhere else).

And on leaks: really, the only purpose they really serve for me is to help me gauge just how much money I need for next year's sets, which is helpful as I'm on a limited budget. I used to pretty much avoid studying prelims because there's something nice about seeing official images for the first time and being totally surprised by what you see. Heck, I didn't even have regular access to the Internet until 2012, so seeing the sets for the first time in an Argos catalogue always got me excited. So, yeah, I don't exactly mind if I don't see pics of the sets until official images are released. And with Bionicle, I don't even need to gauge my budget for it because I know I'll want it all no matter what, and I guess how much the sets will all cost together is quite easy to predict for me

Nah, I just go with the terminology you guys use around here. Far easier, although I have once or twice mixed up summer and winter waves when talking to IRL friends as a result

Actually here we don't even bother using the terms "winter" and "summer" sets, they're just... sets.

I've become so used to refer to the two waves of a year with the aforementioned words that I give it as granted that LEGO unofficially uses them here too.

Now that I think about it, does LEGO use winter and summer as official terms?

Posted (edited)

I've always kind of wondered about the 7months/5months release schedule. I know summer sets appear sometimes in June and winter in December but the official releases are August/January. Why the odd release dates? Wouldn't it make more sense to be every six months officially?

Lego tends to use 1HY (first half-year) and 2HY (second half-year). But needless to say those terms aren't quite self-evident to newcomers.

At least internally, LEGO uses "1HY" and "2HY" (1st and 2nd Halves of the Year). But it's a somewhat impersonal classification (nobody wants to be about dry and boring facts all the time :U), so I see why fandoms gravitate towards summer and winter. Same overall meaning.

I can only imagine they have years (decades, really) of sales data that supports the decision. And you do occasionally get breaks in the pattern, either based on geographic areas or just however focus testing and market projections for the year panned out.

Usually, the first wave consists of smaller sets and the second wave consists of larger sets. That's still just an oversimplification but it's a trend that has pretty much stayed true throughout the years. The first wave is also usually more 'hyped up' than the summer wave which more or less continues with the same theme. More sets are purchased between August-December because of the large amounts of birthdays and holidays.

Maybe we could see restored versions of the Skull weaponry next year?

I don't see how that would be necessary. There's not really much "decay" evident in the Skull Villain weapons—they're actually quite elegant, all things considered.

Of course, considering that, I would not mind the reuse of those parts one bit if they could be used in a unique and original manner. Perhaps even recolored? Who knows?

We don't really need fixed up versions. The Hook Blade is the same length and width as Lewa or Tahu's swords, they even have the mold mark in the same spot. The Hook Axe is the same size as Lewa's whole axe.

I said restored versions  At the time I wrote that I had just bought MMvsSG, and didn't realize the hook blade looked fine. The skull blade however looks pretty ancient and like it needs fixing. Fits with the skellies, but it'd need some work if it were to fit with the Toa.
