Bionicle 2016 Sets Discussion

One of my unspoken theories was that it's actually a combiner set, but the combiner was the first priority and not an afterthought like every other combiner. I wouldn't be surprised if "3 in 1" reads on the box.

I doubt that last part, but you know what? I certainly wouldn't mind at all. Would be reminiscent of sets of old (like the Rahi) that had alternate builds right out of the box.

Speaking of which: I'm guessing that since the creatures are called such in the set names, they won't be called Rahi this time around. You never know though.

Yup, that's what I bet will happen. Speaking on the 'Unity' combiners- if the Creatures are like the 4chan leaks said (their bodies are shooters like the Stormtrooper's blaster), I hope that one of the Toa's arms is replaced by the shooter in a Megaman-esque way.

I think that the creatures will be like Legendary Pokemon: Singular elemental entities who are still considered animals by definition but are still sentient individuals.

I'm hoping for some new creatures that haven't been done before. I'd love a Chameleon, Tree Frog, Lemur or Tucan for Uxar, an Ankylosaurus, Armadillo, Kangaroo or Thorny Devil for Ketar, a Shark, Lobster, Squid or Dolphin for Akida, a Turtle, Snake, Monitor Lizard or Salamander for Ikir, a Mole, Triceratops or Boar for Terak, and a wolf, Sabertooth Tiger, Mammoth/Mastodon or Elk for Melum. Mythical creatures would be really cool too, like a Griffin, Hydra, Cerberus, Dragon, Chimera, Sphinx, etc. Or better yet, completely unique creatures that are amalgams of various ideas, just NO MORE INSECTS OR ARACHNIDS. I get sick of those easily. I also want some quadrupeds and unique builds, I don't want anything like the Brain Attack bipedal beasts, I'd rather have something like Savage Planet. Some Dinosaurs on the other hand... Imagine if they took the scrapped concept for 2011 and are doing it now! Highly unlikely, but it'd be great! After all, the sets kind of sound like what 2011 was going to be, assuming the Toa are going on a romp through the jungle. However in order to to some good dinos the sets would have to be quite large, which would not fit the $15-$20 price range of 'canister' sets. One can dream.

This afternoon I went to the infamous toyshop, and when I asked at least to see the catalogue the owner told me "there will be figures in the usual colours and one big black one, the joy of LEGO is waiting isn't it? " or some crap like that.

We had confirmation that Umarak is black but... is that a scoop?

I'm not mad because I agree with him. Once leaks are out it's kind of hard to avoid talking about them in some capacity, but to actively go looking for them is pretty annoying. Good on the store owner for not wanting to damage the brand, and doing his part to keep line sales from dropping.

Anyone who wanted to buy the Toa at this stage would probably have brought them at this stage. There are a few members on 4chan who mentioned Walmart had a sale on recently selling the mid-sized toa for $1 simply because they wanted to get rid of them before the Summer sets arrived. By the time the Winter Wave is released the Summer wave will be off most shelves and the 2015 winter wave will be removed from the Lego site. The leak of the 2016 winter wave images would not really have any affect on sales of the sets - other than the potential for people to make knock-off's, though that happens anyway between the official reveal and release.

If anything leaks drive up the search engine results for Bionicle when waiting for leaks - combined with the mutliple hashtags, messages, videos and fan-art when the leaks arrive. It helps brand awareness a majority of the time and can even introduce new people to Bionicle. Take for example the return of Bionicle, without the 'hype train' caused by the leaks, the line would have returned as a suprise to many of us whose wallets would have been unprepared resulting in less sales. Fans of the CCBS system would have been left with no information on whether Hero Factory would return (Given its cancellation has only been mentioned in an official capacity via a leak) Initial worries about CCBS being completely scrapped were quelled for many via seeing the new sets and for a large majority seeing the leaks actually helps them plan their purchases so they can get more Bionicle sets. Multiple fans made videos based around the return of Bionicle convincing several bio-tubers to also return - the fan-art of the redesigned Tahu is probably what convinced a majority of fans to have faith and be invested in the line. Fan-art that came about early due to the leaks.

Leaks also made us aware of the inclusion of Merlin Mann, without the leaks we would'nt have had people interviewing hiim or the community interaction we currently have. Its even possible that due to these interactions Merlin may have reported back to Lego on some ideas of how to improve the animations. A lot of the desires of fans, such as for set names and information have been noticed by Lego at an earlier stage due to the leaks which is probably why we now have names for every winter set after a wave of sets with no specific name. Just saying that with toys, leaks actually help the fanbase a lot more than damaging the brand.

Though i agree that certain types of leaks do damage the brand, such as the leaks of the book and the leaks of the animations. These damage the brand in the sense that one may be less likely to buy the book if they've read it already. With the animations, it was simply a case of once the animations were leaked, we didnt have anything to discuss.

We already saw what leaks did. People judged the skull sets pretty hard when they saw the leaks.

That color scheme is sure becoming tiresome, but I'm okay with it if LoSS and Umarak happen both to be sentient entities created by MoUP. Still, they were able to pull out something like Witch Doctor so I hope that he scooped or the secondary color is not red or the there isn't that much of black as he made it to look like.

What is it with the black-colored villains? Seriously, it's getting ridiculously boring at this point. Personally, I hope they make him black and white, just to get as far away from the typical villain color scheme as possible with the limitation imposed.

I actually kinda like that thus far black and trans orange = main villain, and I'd like to think that there's plot significance to it too. But that's me as a story guy. From a set design/MoCer's perspective yeah I get that it's pretty lame.

So apparently the sets were momentarily leaked on a foreign website Unfortunately pics were not taken however info has been relayed. Take with a large grain of salt as only going off their words;

• Umarak has a double function weapon, it can transform. and he is like a smaller, extremely armored skull grinder.
  
• The toa masks are still the same mold, only recolors.
  
• Onua has a weapon, that can combine to a drill kinda like whenua
  
• Tahu kept his lower leg armor this time with armor addons though and he has new swords in gold and a bow as secondary weapon
  
• Ketar is a scorpion, he has a new mask with pincers
  
• Ikir is like a flame serpent with a "wrapping function" and has a PURPLE EYESTALK!
  
• Terak is like a spider (purple and black) with a stud gun where the mouth should be and has a white string to hang down from stuff like real spiders
  
• Pohatu has "axy-blade-dagger" weapons melded mask
  
• Gali has 2 javelins, double gear function, new torso piece (!!!!) boxy armor piece (also on some of the creatures)
  
• Onua is similar to the old version, but with the drill i talked about and PURPLE ARMOR
  
• Umarak: trans-darkgreen and black color-scheme, "houndlike" pet on chain, weapon for mask stealing
  

Uxar and Lewa were not shown. Kopaka and melum were listed, but picture was missing and akida was also missing a picture

Info was relayed to me over a different communication software prior to him posting it, hence the wording being slightly different

Hmm... It's strange he didn't list them using any of the SW-constraction pieces.

Everything else seems pretty plausible. So if the masks use the same mold in what color they are?
