Posted May 31, 20168 yr Has anyone done this? Is there a list of parts I would need to do this? The builds and models look pretty similar aside from the panel construction? I'm considering getting the Prototype model (available for cheap) and later doing this mod if it won't require too many expensive bricks..
June 1, 20168 yr I haven't done it, but you would need to make the wings longer and maybe change the color scheme a bit, also mess with the slant shape of the wings.
June 1, 20168 yr The rear end of each ship is also different so it's not as simple as changing the panels. Are you trying to make an exact copy of the new Tie with parts from the Prototype? If so you could compare their parts lists to see what else you would need.

June 1, 20168 yr Having reverse engineered the new Vader's TIE, the build of the cockpit and back is noticeably different. Also, the wing panels will definitely not be able to be made with pieces from 75082.
June 1, 20168 yr Author Looks like I'll have to get the instruction manuals and make a piece count list for each and figure out the differences myself :( I'll actually post the list here if anyone else is interested in bricklinking the differences. June 1, 20168 yr Author They always come out a few days after the set is out, wait a week or so. Alright, cheers :) Will very gladly turn my Prototype into a Vader TIE in a couple weeks :)

Since then I updated the wings to make them similar to the official new Vader's TIE. I don't have a part list but I can share more detailed pics that may help you. PM me if you are interested.
June 1, 20168 yr I'm also planning to update the prototype into a proper TIE Advanced, since the new set, which just got released isn't really convincing me. The fighter is way too small there. I don't want a compact-car version of it The actual modding shouldn't be difficult really. There are lots of blueprints, photos and models of it available

That would be really nice, but an LDD or parts list would have been so much better. I'm no newbie to Lego but I haven't been into it for such a long time before 2015 that I have very little knowledge of most contemporary bricks and build methods :(

Export the part lists from LDD models seperately and compare those? Can LDD do this? EDIT: Yes LDD can do this. Apparently, the builds are nothing alike. Of the 389 pieces that make up the Advanced x1, 318 are not included in the Advanced Prototype. Here's a list of differences if anyone else is interested. I will instead try to go by Geebee's photos.
