tomek9210 Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 Did they say anything about only licensed cars in this new series? Or will there be non-licensed cars as well? Quote
TheItalianBrick Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 No! Aventador! :)   Quote
TheMindGarage Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 This set is like my MOCs, everything for the shape and looks and quite poor functions... It looks good but works bad And this is no joke... I must get better with functions so maybe TLG too? What do you think? Really? I'm the opposite . Most of my MOCs don't look terribly good (although that's partly because I have few curved panels and flexible parts), but I can cram suspension, 8-speed gearbox and a MIINDSTORMS EV3 brick (with 4 motors) into a 1:10 car and still have room for a cabin. Sometimes I wonder whether I've reached the limit of compactness, but then I manage to fit another function without making the car any bigger. Back to the point, the Porsche is not targetting the typical LEGO fan - it's more for car fans and possibly even non-LEGO-enthusiasts who want something cool to show off. I've heard people saying that the car would still sell even if it had no gearbox - strange as that sounds, I'm starting to agree to that... If i never get the Xerion, I guess that will mean they weren't OK with my review after all ;) On another note, as soon as I've heard that Porsche is first of a series, I've started lobbying Technic guys to make a Pagani Zonda next :) That would be truly cool . Preferably with better functions such as RC or a gearbox that is actually viable. Quote

JM1971 Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 The expense and dodgy mechanics mechanics have put me off forever. If they sold madoca's suv or buggies I would hand over my cash in a instant, lego don't seem to know what people want. Quote
Bering Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 To clarify: - they clearly said this is the start of a series of car sets. They didn't say what cars or when. - their official approach is "there is no problem with the 42056 whatsoever" except for the problem with the box getting damaged which they are supposedly fixing right now - I understand why my review might be seen as harsh. I believe that I would see much more potential in this set if I knew it was first of a series at the time of reviewing it. Still, in my personal opinion the set is miles away from living up to all the hype Lego has build around it. Remember, it's being marketed as "the art of engineering" and then you get a noisy gearbox driving an engine you can't really see. Thanks for your honest review Sariel. Many reviewers choose to please Lego instead of giving an honest opinion, scared for the consequences (of not getting a free set anymore). I agree with you. For such a hyped set in this price range everything should be perfect. And that's not the case here, it has many errors, internally and externally, as we can see and hear in your video. Crazy. Even 42039 does it better and it has a B-model... and a C, D and E. And you keep 210 euro's in your pocket. I got better things to do... Waiting for the Claas and Volvo. ;-) Quote
schraubedrin Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Hi sariel, what an outstanding review. I always enjoy your thorough "impressions" part As i'm currently fighting with my gearbox, i may have found a little error in When you connected the Motor, it was placed "between" gearbox-output and differential-input. Therefore there couldn't be any difference in wheelspeed from shifting as the differential always got the rpm directly from the motor. Thanks again for your reviews, they are the best way to collect relevant informations of the current LEGO Sets. Quote

bricks360 Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 I have been paying attention to this car via pictures all over the internet; however, I went to my local Lego Store in Downtown Disney Anaheim yesterday and saw the actual Porsche on display in person. I could not believe the sheer size of it. Is this 1/8 scale? Or bigger? Quote
schraubedrin Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 It's officially 1:8 as noted on the upper right corner of the box. Unofficially someone calculated a value around 1:7,8 or something Quote

TheMindGarage Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 The set is rather overpriced in my opinion (even more expensive than the Bucket Wheel Excavator), but check this out: Set costs $300 Real Porsche 911 GT3 RS costs $175,000 Set is in 1:8 scale Scaled up set (scaling in each dimension, so x 83) costs $153,600 So if you scale the LEGO set up to full size, it's actually CHEAPER than the real Porsche! I'm actually quite surprised given that Porsche cars tend to be cheaper than other supercar brands. Although the same cannot be said for my 1:10 Nissan GT-R (still in progress) - all the electronics (1 EV3 set plus an extra motor) plus the parts add up to about $600, which when scaled up is about 6 times the price of the real car... Well, I suppose that if you would pay the Porsche dealer $153600 for a car that can only pushed around he'd feel he had the better end of the deal Quote
irekk Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Thanks Sariel. I was fighting with my thoughts all around. But your review (same like in other cases), convinced me to spend some cash on other set (41999). You do really neat job in your reviews! Quote
Saberwing40k Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 So, this set is selling well, I hope that doesn't encourage Lego to think they can get away with sets that function poorly. Or, do most people just believe the hype without thinking about it at all? Quote
TainBoCulain Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 I guess the high price is depending on some additional costs for Porsche licenses ... Quote
