It's not because of the "contest" idea I posted this. It is because I was acused of spamming (indirectly).

I just don't really think that's fair

So what you're saying is Kulo as you were accused of spamming (which obviously increases your post count faster), is unfair that others here can alter their post count and jump ahead 500 posts which makes them look they've been spamming when they actually haven't?

I'm not sure if this is making sense, please elaborate further upon this matter...

Well I was acused of spamming to get higher in top ten posters. Now why else would Orlego alter his posts but to get higher in the top ten posters?

See what I mean.

Even if I was spamming (which I don't think I do, I just like to post a lot) at least I actually posted messages whoch contributed to Eurobricks rather then alter my posts.

See what I mean now?

When were you accused of spamming? I'm the only one that's been out right accused of "spamming these boards" in some birthday thread a while back. Unles I've missed something...

There were quite a few people accused of spamming... I think yoda was once, brickmaster actually had his title changed to 'Annoying Member' for spamming, phes once, and Sarg... well, Sarg is Sarg. ;)

Thankfully I've never been accused myself. While I post a lot, I try to at least contribute something to the topic - no 'yes' or 'cool' or 'hahaha' posts on my end! No sir! |-D

I've never spammed! Yes some of my posts are written very metaphorically and allegorically, maybe sometimes poetically and even pathetically. But I had no idea that some would have trouble deciphering their true meaning at the time of posting.

I can't remember what exactly was said but it was something like. "A lot of spamer have being posting 100+ a day". I was.

Does anyone understand now *wacko*

Yes, and then an admin who can't be bothered to even post in order to increase his post count just jacks up his posts. Do you see how it is unfair now? *wacko*

I can see how it would be unfair if you were posting to increase your post count and got accused of spamming in the process. Then yes, it would be extremely frustrating that someone could increase their post count without actually earning the amount by making the necessary number of posts. In effect it renders the post counting system pointless.

But if you weren't intentionally trying to increase your post count then I don't see the problem...

Come on guys, can't you just forget about that ;)

Who cares how much posts each of us have????? I wonder :|

Like Apo said, it is reasonable to self limit to a max of 50 posts/day ;)

Oh me and Kulo do... Its our ultimate goal to achieve the highest number of posts on this message board so we can be glorified.

If nobody cares how many posts everyone has, then why is the number displayed in the first place? Can it be turned off?

Posted

I'm not bothered about my post count, I just like to post a lot.

I just think people are telling me off for trying to get higher in the top ten posters and then an admin who clearly has no otehr reason then to get higher in the top ten goes and does it. AND HE ISN'T TOLD OFF, ACUSED OF SPAMMIN.

WHY IS THAT SO HARD TO SEE

So you believe if the Admin wish for a higher post count then they should earn it by posting, rather than cheating and modifying the number manually?

Posted

Lol, the funniest thing about this is: The more often we (the admins, the mods haven't the power to change their post counts! *twisted* ) change those post counts, the more ridicolous this information becomes! :P

Actually, Jipay changed HIS post count a few months ago up to 500.000 or whatever and back again...

We're already working on removing the post count from the profile field, but this is a bit difficult. Actually I think that the less new people can see how many posts someone has or how much he is involved in this community the more easy it is to reply to someone without of fearing to get in trouble with a big wig or whatever! ;)

It would take the edge off being a newbie... But then the date the user registered and the registration number would also have to be removed for that to be effective.

Posted

We don't want the people not to know who is who. To see somebody has signed up months ago is one thing, but this "Whoaw! 12600 posts!" effect is a bit more difficult...

Posted

I agree with you Apo.

Its nice for newbies to know who is who, and one way to do that is by looking the number of pots (total or daily).

Personnaly I don't make a fuss about how many posts I have, but I do look my posts per day not to have more than the "limited" 50 :-D ;)

Posted
Why would do that??????

To stop this silly cometition thig

Well, let those who want some competition where there are, who cares >-|

Like Apo said (I like repeating myself, I'm starting to get old :-D ) if each member limits himself to less than 50 posts per day, we'll be fine, no one will be pointed out as spamming or whatever.

However, you cannot get rid of competition, its human nature.

And back into the fray we go...

Sarg, do you feel that you were spamming with the amount of posts you were making? And by that, I mean that in the occasions that you were exceeding 100 posts a day, where they mostly on topic and more than just one to two line posts ? If that is the case, then I think you are taking a general statment that was made and making a mountain out of it. At the time, that particular comment was more directed at Phes than at you. You seem to take it very personally, though. And to that my only comment is: don't. Its not that big a deal. No one thinks less of you or any such things. Its why we have moderators, to remind us every now and then that sometimes a participants in a forum, we do things that we ought to think over a bit more. f you don't think you were spamming, then take the post that a mod said as a good rule of thumb that more than 50 posts per day per person is probably excessive. At the very least, some of those posts could probably have been merged together to create a feel more akin to a forum than to a chat room (and they are looking at adding a chat room). The issue that the mod/admins have raised is not a matter of "He who has most posts wins" or that there is a competitve nature to it, but instead that posters on this forum should be mindful of the fact that it is a *forum* and that their posts should reflect that sort of conversation.

If you feel that the spamming post was targeted at you, then again, just take it into mind when you are posting. Thats all it is.

Well, i think thats about it,

Akkh

Sure, why not. If there are some reasonable complaints left (concerning post counts, wise words Akkh!) please post them in the pinned thread at the "Eurobricks Website and Forum" section!
