madsen1997 Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 (edited) So this will be my second topic on eb beside my 42043-C Zetros topic. This time it will be a D-model for 42043 Arcos set, and like the C.model I will continue the Mercedes Benz theme. The D-model will be an Unimog U4000 only build with parts from the 42043 set. facts: Mercedes Benz Unimog U4000 (4x4) 4 Inline engine Lenght: 5410 mm wide: 2336 mm Height: 2612 mm tyre size: 335/80 R 20 so if the model should be in a perfect scale of the IRL unimog, it would be a 1:16 build acording to the 62.4/20S lego tyres, because those are the one we have in the 42043 set. that means the 42043-D Unimog U4000 will be Lenght: 34 Studs (+-) Wide: 19 Studs (+-) Height: 20 Studs (+-) Pictures of my "don't think or calculate, just build" progress below Update will come.... Rishab N Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Looking good so far! However, wouldn't an Unimog U400 have an inline 4 engine? Quote
agrof Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 (edited) Oh yes! On my list already, but You put the bar high with the Zetros, is it clear for You? High hopes are circulating around. Personally I don't mind the 6 cylinder engine, why not. Edited June 8, 2016 by agrof Quote
TheItalianBrick Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 It's a shame not to make it 4X4! But will look good anyway! Quote
offroadcreations Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 I can tell that this will turn out great! Can't wait to see it finished. Quote
madsen1997 Posted June 8, 2016 Author Posted June 8, 2016 Looking good so far! However, wouldn't an Unimog U400 have an inline 4 engine? yep... It's should have a 4L engine... at first I though it were a 6L engine like in the Zetros, Arocs and soo.... so this will be change into a 4L engine.... Making more space for fun It's a shame not to make it 4X4! But will look good anyway! as it will be a D-model of the 42043 set, I will only use parts from the 42043 set--- and it's a bit difficult to make a so compact FWD with those parts .... I'll try anyway... maybe I find a solution Also the wheels will be change somehow... because those 62.4x20 looks to small for an Unimog in that size.... Maybe I should make a complete D-model for 42043.... and then later make a upgraded D-model, with new tires, FWD and so :D ... instead of those 62.4x20 wheels I should put these on in a upgraded version..... it's the wheels from the 42000 Racers... might be looking good when I got the rear chassis part done, and mounted a cabin Quote
JJ2 Posted June 8, 2016 Posted June 8, 2016 Looks good so far but I really think it could be made 4x4 with some trial and error. Quote
madsen1997 Posted June 8, 2016 Author Posted June 8, 2016 Yeah ... it isn't impossible... I just have to figure out the right way Quote
syclone Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Looks great! You should try Piterx's FWD axle from his fiat panda.(Not sure if all parts are in set because I don't have it) Quote

TheItalianBrick Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 (edited) Yes but wait a second...it's a D model with other sets parts! Doesn't sound right! you should start from the 62.4 wheels and figure out the scale/size of the Unimog........ Edited June 9, 2016 by TheItalianBrick Quote

madsen1997 Posted June 9, 2016 Author Posted June 9, 2016 After looking at Piterx's FWD axle from his Fiat Panda moc, I came up with this front axle for my Unimog It's a bit hard to make a driven front axle out of only 42043 parts. but I kinda thinks it will work for now... Quote
Imanol BB Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Those are really great news, i cant wait to see the whole chassis completed. Quote
kb7 Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Thats a nice front axle youve got there. Very compact. Quote

Quote
agrof Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Yes, because it is a D model. I overlooked that, but agree with TheItalianBrick: go for 4x4! This is a very valuable challenge, fingers crossed for it. Quote
madsen1997 Posted June 12, 2016 Author Posted June 12, 2016 Today I spend most of the day to get my front axle to fit at the chassis (needed some rebuild) ... but at this time the steering works, drivetrain works almost fine and the suspension seems to work great.... and then the time ran away, so I didn't get to take some pictures before it went to dark, so I post some tomorrow Quote
mzzl88 Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 Keep up the good work, this makes the Mercedes Arocs set more appealing if guys like yourself keep making extra models...looking forward to the finished product...definitely buying the instructions for the MB Unimog Quote

Engine replaced by a 4L engine, As in the real one, lowered a stud. Front axle mounted with FWD, steering and suspension works great, but the FWD mount on the chassis might need some rebuild, because I think it is a bit to low .... when I got the rear axle mounted, the chassis will be 2 studs higher than on the Arocs.... agrof Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 great progress! One tipp/hint/wish: considering the scale and the parts of the 42043, maybe could be an option: Unimog + a trailer and/or some equipments (8258 B model). Quote
madsen1997 Posted June 12, 2016 Author Posted June 12, 2016 great progress! One tipp/hint/wish: considering the scale and the parts of the 42043, maybe could be an option: Unimog + a trailer and/or some equipments (8258 B model). yeah.. at first the plan was a 6x4 chassis, but I changed it.. and the plan by now will be a 4x4 Unimog + a 2 axle Trailer. there will be 2 or more PTO's on the unimog + a numbers of Pneumatic connector output. so like on the 8110 unimog you will be able to mount a winch in front, a PTO driven trailer(tippertrailer) etc. Quote
mzzl88 Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 yes!!!!!!!!!!....cool that you create pneumatics...I didn't got the change to buy the 8110 but with your version I could own an Unimog...and than the fun starts......:):) Quote
madsen1997 Posted June 12, 2016 Author Posted June 12, 2016 so I just rebuilded the drivetrian.. and it fits much better now ... so now for the rear axle.... with or without dual wheels... -i know the real one has single mounted rearwheels... Quote
syclone Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 (edited) That's an awesome job going on there! rebuilt, not rebuilded - irregular verbs, I will never forget you thanks to my English teacher. ;) Edited June 12, 2016 by LXF Quote
