SirBlake Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 As soon as I started modding the Model A Hot Rod that comes with 75875, I knew I couldn't stop there. I decided that I needed to hit all of the different body styles for a Model A (Coupe, Sedan, Roadster, Pick up). This was an interesting challenge because there were some serious part limitations, but some of the best results come from that type of challenge. Here's a link to the black with flames coupe: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=134717 Other Speed Champions Mods: 2016 cars http://www.eurobrick...opic=122188&hl= 2015 cars http://www.eurobrick...36#entry2154620 As I built them, I experimented with different ways to handle the front bumpers, headlights, engines/exhaust and tail light treatments. Each one also has a different solution for the windshield. So here's the coupe for quick reference: Model A Sedan This one uses a "suicide style" front end treatment that puts the wheels farther out front. It also incorporates the little visor look that Model A's have over the windshield. Model A Roadster I opted to slam this one so the body is almost on the ground instead of the "hot rod rake" stance of the others. It also is intended to look like a Buick Nailhead V8 with a roots supercharger. Model A Pick Up The main thing for this one was to get away from basic primary colors and go for something that looked more vintage. To spice it up I went for Hemi gold accents on the engine and a wood plank bed. The air cleaner is made from a wheel and I used extra white border from the sticker sheet of 75875 to mimic an air filter element. Lastly, some shots of the Hot Rod garage. Quote
wooootles Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 I like them! Dark red and tellow is my favorite. You should consider building a 6561 style shop! Quote
SirBlake Posted June 11, 2016 Author Posted June 11, 2016 Thanks! I think you're right about the shop. That'd be fun. Quote
soccerkid6 Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 Sweet rides! They look great as a group, yet each have a distinctly unique look The Pick Up is my personal favorite Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 Very nice garage and awesome hotroad cars! The chrome gold ring on the engine of the red cars are beautiful! Quote
SirBlake Posted June 13, 2016 Author Posted June 13, 2016 Thanks y'all! The LotR gold rings were my 10 year old daughter's favorite part too. These have been really fun. Hopefully this theme continues next year too. It's fun to see TLG's interpretation of real cars and even more fun to mod them to my taste. Quote
Only Sinner Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 I love these. I've been a hot rod fan a looong time, and this type of thing really cheers me up. The sedan style is my favorite, but I really like how you have made all the engines slightly different, especially the Nailhead. I also like the wood planks in the truck's bed, That's a great detail. SirBlake Posted June 15, 2016 Author Posted June 15, 2016 Thanks for the feedback! I've done this kind of thing a few times. Get inspired by something specific, then iterate on it with different colors and focus on changing up the details. I did that with the Highway Speedster Creator set (from 2012, I think) and a different series of hot rods in a larger scale, and it's been really rewarding. Quote
SirBlake Posted July 30, 2016 Author Posted July 30, 2016 Had to build more. :-) At the end of this thread, I had a high boy coupe, mildly channeled sedan and pickup and a slammed roadster. I wanted to do a slammed and chopped coupe. (Channeled means the body is dropped down, over the frame instead of siting on top, chopped is making the roof lower). Parts limitations like curved slopes and wheels/tires was an issue, but it lead to creative solutions like it often does. Here's the green coupe: The stickers are from this racers set: http://brickset.com/sets/8302-1/Rod-Rider Here's another with a very similar framework done with different colors and details: And here they are together: Quote
