Posted June 22, 20168 yr Hello there Here's a Suzuki Samurai that I've built. Here's my inspiration: Functions: 4x4 drive by 1 L motor Steering by 1 servo Leaf spring live axles Simple interior with seats and steering wheel I'm quite happy with how it turned out and it is very fun to drive. June 22, 20168 yr It is really amazing, looks fantastic, and the suspension is really nice and with very long travel.
June 22, 20168 yr Haha, this little guy seems to be breaking the laws of gravity - it just refuses to tip over. It seems like you got the gear ratio just right, too. Enough speed on flats and torque to climb over anything.
June 22, 20168 yr This is a very cool build especially when it comes to off road handling... Excellent! If I may be honest, I think the looks could be better...I know the Suzuki Samurai quite well and it doesn't really look like on...sorry...but if you don't agree with me, I just agree with you...
June 22, 20168 yr The real Life rock crawler. Amazing work. I just love this litle technic cars with god Look and performans.
June 23, 20168 yr Author Thanks everybody! Haha, this little guy seems to be breaking the laws of gravity - it just refuses to tip over. It seems like you got the gear ratio just right, too. Enough speed on flats and torque to climb over anything. Well, it's actually just leaning on other rocks when it looks like it should tip over, because it is only 13 studs wide (14 at the tires) it isn't as stable as it looks, and falling over isn't as impressive :). I like a challenge though. The gear ratio is 1/5, though if I could magically change it to whatever, I would make it a little slower yet. Yes you may be honest, it is so rare around here to get real criticism. I agree that it isn't that great looking, but I didn't look that much on blueprints, instead on the toyish looking Samurai on the youtube channel Rc suzuki samurai. The thing that I'm happiest with is the front axle, using wheel hubs, but keeping good ground clearance and wheels straight upright. Also there is no chance to pop any CV joints. Another great crawler from you! Do you think you might make a LDD file? I'll be working on it! I can't promise a date though. I might be able to have my CJ5 built at the same time, and drive them in one video, would that be more interesting than just one 4x4?
June 23, 20168 yr Very cool, very good performance! Off-roaders for president! LDD file is welcoming any time, and a YES for the comparison video.
June 23, 20168 yr Author Here are some outtakes from the first video (it flips a lot) It might make you smile, it might make you cry Very cool, very good performance! Off-roaders for president! LDD file is welcoming any time, and a YES for the comparison video. Thanks! I got it built, now I have to find someone to drive it. A comparison video will come sooner or later.

I agree... ...although I admit it is not easy to be critical when it is written, it lacks emotions at all. For me it is easier to give feedback face-to-face...! It is okay as it is, as you may know I always try to capture the shapes of a specific truck as good as possible... Anyways it really performs well! Even the flip video is cool. It is so light in weight and no diffs, it is virtually unstoppable...unless it tips... Edited June 23, 20168 yr by 2LegoOrNot2Lego...
June 24, 20168 yr I like this 4x4 minimalism! Very cool! I was particularly pleased with the work of a spring suspension. Great job! Edited June 24, 20168 yr by filsawgood
June 24, 20168 yr Such a cute, yet accurate and well performing model! Brilliant use of "leaf springs" and nice use of two steering links to keep the front axle from sliding apart. Can you make a small LDD of the chassis? Edited June 24, 20168 yr by Zblj
June 25, 20168 yr Haha really nice, I actually really like the white rims. Also, did you have any issues with gear slippage in the axles?
June 25, 20168 yr Author Thanks guys! This should be an official Lego set! Maybe it should, but it can't, TLG doesn't produce minizip cables :) Haha really nice, I actually really like the white rims. Also, did you have any issues with gear slippage in the axles? Who wouldn't like the white rims? haha I've never had any problems with bevel gears in any models (except the Jeep, it destroyed one). ... well actually there was (with this one) one mysterious bang when I got a rear wheel stuck, but nothing broke, so I'm not sure what happened EDIT: Here's the LDD file for the chassis, I'll do the body later https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3uQRNR6UbBWMzB4YTVERnBUb0E/view?usp=sharing Edited June 25, 20168 yr by Pego
June 26, 20168 yr Author Okay, so I went by boat to a nearby island. It turned out to be an absolutely amazing rock crawling playground. I was there for 3 hours, and there's still much more to crawl there. As you watch the video, you can see the differences in the two trucks, the Jeep is wider, heavier and has much better center of gravity. But it also lacks in ground clearance and power to weight ratio (I think), even though it has two motors compared to the Suzukis single L motor. The Jeep is so much heavier combined with lower output from the battery box that it can actually stall itself on the rocks. The Samurai has much more suspension flex which makes it good on the rocks, but a little unpredictable on hill climbs. Torque twist is also apparent. The biggest diffence still has to be sand performance, in which the Jeep sinks and the Samurai just floats over it. The conclusion: The Jeep is for hill climbs, the Suzuki is for rock crawling and flat ground stuff.
