While the Blue Jacket and Monarch proved effective as primary air to air and air to ground fighters, their relative expense generated interest in an escort level fighter to protect heavier and less maneuverable assets like the FireMoth, P.O.D ships and mining transports. The LL 214 Wasp was the first Cerberus Systems designed which used mag-repulsors as the VTOL lift engine. The lack of directional RVTOL engines made the Wasp more compact and less expensive to manufacture than a Blue Jacket, but also reduced their ability to maneuver in higher gravity or atmospheric applications as compared to Monarchs and Blue Jackets.
