Posted July 11, 20168 yr Hi there, I'm fairly new to Mindstorms, and these forums, but I thought you might be interested to see my automated forklift truck (hope you enjoy the humour!):
July 11, 20168 yr Interesting design. I can't say I've ever seen a forklift with that mechanism - it works, but yeah, it's not the most sturdy design. Clever though! And probably easier to automate than a string-based lift system.
July 11, 20168 yr Author Actually, my first attempt making an automated lift truck did indeed use a bit of string: But I wanted to have a multi-stage mast mechanism, and one that didn't use any string. I didn't have enough ratchet pieces so that was why I took the idea of the scissor lift. It went through many stages - starting off extremely complex (and extremely unreliable). In the end, I quite liked this lifting principle, even though it is a bit, er, unconventional... and, it's not actually a multi-stage mast. But I thought it was fun, and my little video was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek. Thanks for the feedback! :)
July 11, 20168 yr 8248 had scissor lift mechanism and was much sturdier than yours. Maybe consider some rebuilds?
July 12, 20168 yr I don't think the main attraction is the lifting capacity here, that sounds like nitpicking - even it is not meant like that. You can improve the V2 later. I really enjoyed the Video, and hat off for the programing, it works!
