jamie75 Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 I wouldn't mind seeing if this was buildable without the interior. I'm wondering what the chances are of you sharing or selling the files? If just the shell of the ship is around 5000 pieces, I MAY take a crack at it. Jamie Quote
BrotherJayne Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 (edited) Heh, I'm trying to convince the wifey we should do this as a 5 year project. Have you fiddled with the legs yet? Edit: The more I think about it, the more it seems the cruciform central and ancillary corridors (nose/ball turret to engine and airlock to airlock) would be the construction lynchpin Edited July 21, 2016 by BrotherJayne Quote
IcarusBuilds Posted July 26, 2016 Author Posted July 26, 2016 (edited) For those wondering about the framing of my model, I have been working on re-framing it to better hold it together. This is what I have so far. I hope to have more soon. Edited September 3, 2018 by IcarusBuilds Fixed Photos Quote
jamie75 Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Looks awesome!! Can't wait to see more. Can't imagine how long it's taken you to get the angles right. I looks pretty close the "real" ship. Jamie Quote
Mesabi Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 This is a really nice ldd build. can you blow up the pictures a little though? Quote

dimnico Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Great work! I love the art design in Rebels and this captures the look and feel of the Ghost perfectly. Quote

ToaDraco Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Very very impressive. Every detail of the interior and exterior is captured so well! Quote

brickmasterben11 Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Are you going to make it so that the Phantom will attach the right way, with the engines facing backward? Quote
khatmorg Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 (edited) Are you going to make it so that the Phantom will attach the right way, with the engines facing backward? Technically both ways are the right way. In a lot of scenes where they're chased the cockpit faces backwards so they can use it's cannons to fire back. How do they exit and enter when it's facing inward anyway? Edited July 29, 2016 by khatmorg Quote
brickmasterben11 Posted July 30, 2016 Posted July 30, 2016 They enter and exit through a little door in the bottom of the Phantom that connects to the Ghost via ladder. Quote
BrotherJayne Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Is there a cargo lift in it somewhere? How would they get something heavy from one of the lower bays (via front ramp or the floor slot) up to the main deck? Quote

The Phantom can currently dock either way, with the exception that the long guns need to be popped off since there isn't a way to make them retractable that I have come across yet. ScottishDave Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Is there a cargo lift in it somewhere? How would they get something heavy from one of the lower bays (via front ramp or the floor slot) up to the main deck? Movie magic? There is a fair bit of that in The Ghost - perhaps a subtle nod to the trans-dimensional problems of the Millennium Falcon? The worst problem is that the hatch from the bottom of the Phantom is too far aft to link up with anything. I believe that it is supposed to open into the main crew lounge - but since the main crew lounge is directly behind the main turret, and the Phantom's belly hatch is 20 metres further aft, the distances are hilariously wrong. Also here are some new pictures of the rebuild progress, including a new docking port design with doors that actually lead inside. Nice! I really like the look of the new docking port. Your internal structure also looks quite sound - rather like that of the UCS Falcon, but bigger. Quote
Inthert Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 The ships in rebels is really what draws me into this show. I get the feeling the Ghost could just as easily be the Millennium Falcon in alternate reality :P (which is the point of its design I guess). I’m always amazed when people create massive models but this one is superb, and it’s not finished yet! You’ve (so far) captured every angle, colour and detail spot on, both on the exterior and the interior. Can’t wait to see this finished or better still as a physical model :D Quote

Alright, per a sketch that I've not been able to source yet, the cross ship corridor (with the airlocks to either end) have two descending floors/ramps that function as lifts, dropping down to the level of the main cargo hold way at the rear. Also, the ladder to the phantom is in the lounge You can see it to the right Quote

Yep, that's plausible - but I can't recall ever seeing it in the show. Was it an official Lucasfilm production sketch? Also, the ladder to the phantom is in the lounge You can see it to the right Yes, that's the one I meant. That must be all of six metres from the door to the cross corridor (which is just behind Hera.) Compare that to the position of the belly hatch of the Phantom at the rear of the ship, which I would guess to be twenty metres aft of that self-same corridor, and I hope you'll agree that there is a slight mismatch. Oh, you are so right, that ladder is aligned with the air lock that they use when the phantom is guns-out. Is there maybe another room further aft of the galley? Trying to find that sketch again, and I've not seen it used either Quote
ScottishDave Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Oh, you are so right, that ladder is aligned with the air lock that they use when the phantom is guns-out. Is there maybe another room further aft of the galley? I like the idea of a room behind the galley - that makes sense, although I can't see a door in the rear wall of the galley in any episodes. My other guess is that there is a crawlspace linking the two hatches, like a large air duct or something. It's undignified, neither Seb or Chopper can use it, and it's no way to move cargo, but do-able for the human crew members Come to think, that's another mystery - I've never seen Chopper moving from deck to deck. Does he fire that health-and-safety-violation rocket motor of his every time he wants to go up or down a ladder? Don't the others get awfully tired of singed hair and rocket exhaust fumes? Quote
BrotherJayne Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 couldn't he just maglock to the wall and run up it? ha Quote

IcarusBuilds Posted August 15, 2016 Author Posted August 15, 2016 (edited) Alright, after a few busy weeks without any time to work on this, I have some new photos to share. First, some new overhead, front, side and 3/4 shots; While working on this, I realized that the center section with the landing gear needed to sit lower than the front of the ship, so I adjusted that. Doing so however meant that my ramp needed to be longer in order to touch the ground, in the show in extends by sliding out, mine folds in at the end since there is no room for that. Here is a closer look at the Phantom docking area. And then finally a look at my progress on the lower rear angled section. Hope you enjoy.
