Here it is, in all its dark azure glory:

Pros:

- nice shapes and unusual color make it a real eye candy

- it's got that groovy 60's feel

- instantly recognizable, looks much better than its predecessor, the 10187 set

- exceptionally educative build, full of clever solutions (beats even 10248)

- great modding material (Volksrods!)

- cool new pieces (e.g. the windshield) and tons of pieces in dark azure color

- includes superb selection of spare pieces and even spare stickers!

Cons:

- a few minor details don't look so accurate

- almost the same play features as in the 10242 Mini Cooper set

- dark azure color seems a bit overused and makes it look like a toy

- the dominant color is very rare for Lego and thus may not be very useful

- desperately needs chromed pieces

I think it would have been better to do the trim accent in the center of the hood as a sticker. I bet it would be possible to replace all of the Dark Azure and replace it with LBG. Then it would be much easier to mod into something like this.

One day, Tommy, you will discover other Lego colors, too ;)

All those SW sets getting to my head... I am expanding I have plans for another model that will use another shade of gray. Part of my limitations are because of the small collection I have. I am limited to building in black, LBG, and red. Maybe someday I will get some tan, red-brown and dark green, so I can build vehicles with realistic camouflage schemes. Though hopefully after I purchase a rather large amount of DBG parts in the later half of this month, I can retire most of those parts for SW vehicles, except for models requiring the 6x6 inverted radar dishes in DBG, as you own most of them with your Tiger I

I know, I know, I've been building black tanks for quite a while myself. Now my goal is to build one in tan and one in dark green, then I can die happy ;)

PS. Yeah, it's a funny feeling to be sitting on the world's largest stock of DBG radar dishes ;)

Sariel, is there any chance that you could post a picture of Beetle with Camper Van's wheels on? Thank you in advance :)

Camper's wheels are about 20% smaller so it looks bad.

I like the old one better, it isn't as smooth, but I think that it looks more like a beetle.

I will still get this one, because the old one is, well, unavailable. And because I'm not sure if TLG will release a 2Cv soon...

Is it just me but every time I look at this i think Citroen 2CV not a VW Beetle.

Because the two cars look very simillar, and because it's extrmely hard to make a lego build as curvy as the real car.
