I knew, the moment I saw his modification that I would be doing the same layout should I get my hand on a copy of the set. I was able to procure a used one and started working on it. I have been working on this for months because I have limited free time and the creativity of a door knob.

I used around 30-40% of the parts from the original set. The rest came from PAB and my limited collection of Lego pieces. Both building have full interiors, I will be posting more (and hopefully better) images once I sort out my photo equipment.

This looks quite good! The "stand out" windows on the right part are something you don't see everyday and work quite well here.

And I wouldn't call your collection of LEGO pieces limited if it contains a few sand green 1x2 bricks with groove. ;-)

This is a great two house modular that would fit right in with the 2nd gen official ones (especially the DO, from which you obviously drew some inspiration aswell). Luckily it's a bit bigger ;)

To be honest, to me this feels more like a MOC than 'just' a mod of the official set... which is a good thing!

I'd love to see more pictures, especially of the interior.

Nice job! I would change the blue elements in the bike shop to green, though. The colors clash a little bit.

This has a lot of neat details, but I agree about it not being a modified version of the Bike shop/cafe set. This has very little in common with that set, so I would retitle this to Bike Shop MOC.

Although it has little resemblance to the official set, I like what you've done with most of it. I really like the deep setback of the doorway of the Bike shop. It really opens up the MOC. Some streets seem too much the same distance away from the sidewalk (I know that is something I've had issues with), so that is a welcome change. I may have to consider doing something like that in the future. Maybe with my Toy Shop MOC from the creator set.

I agree about changing the color a bit. Why one floor green and the other blue? But otherwise I like the build.

I totally agree with this. Varying depth in facades really helps bringing buildings to life. It makes otherwise pretty simplistic builds rather more interesting to the eye, without much use of greebling. That's why I chose to build the barber shop building of my Detective's Office MOD the way it is - having an even facade over the whole width of the building's front looks rather boring in my opinion.

And having entire buildings or parts of them set back or forward a bit has the same effect in regards to the street - this build is a good example of that.

Thanks guys. Forgot to mention that I also found inspiration from two of my favorite Modulars - the Pet Shop and the Detective's Office. Would love to post more pictures but I am still sorting out my lighting and backdrop. As to why I considered it a MOD instead of a MOC, I just want to pay homage to where homage is due. Like I said this was completely inspired by nuno2500's mod of the same set. But again, your kind words make me wanna do more of this stuff.

As for the blue bricks, that third floor on the bike shop was a late addition. It was originally two floors - sales area on the ground floor and the repair shop on the second level. My kid wanted a third floor for a small office and a storage area, so I added one. Since it was his idea, I asked him what color he wanted it to be and he chose blue. So I had to add the blue lines on the ground floor to make it blend a lil' bit. I know the colors clashed on the second and last level so I tried to break it by adding those DARK Bley bricks.

I also really like it. It's enough of a departure from the original set, that it is exciting to look at the detail. I was also drawn to the rare notched sand green brick that I wish I had some extras just sitting around. ;-)

Replaced the images with (somewhat) better looking shots. Still unable to edit them as my Desktop PC is buried in LEGO somewhere at my work table :). Thanks for the kind words guys, I really appreciate it.
