Sir Wellington Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) I was finally winning once again and then suddenly my computer broke. I had my hessian and british line infantry corner the american long riflemen and the american support was far away so I was winning then the game stopped. EDIT: I won a great victory, The Americans (My enemy) killed 200 of my soldiers, but I killed 456 american soldiers. I sent the hessian infantry, a cavalry regiment, and two british infantry regiments across the river. The americans were crushed and one regiment only had the flag holder left running for his life (I later had the cavalry kill him). Edited May 15, 2009 by Sir Wellington Quote
Joey Lock Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 (edited) Just a few Images from a the power of the HMS Victory during Britain vs Britain: Amazing. So look out French, We have a few new Ships coming your way! Edited June 1, 2009 by Joey Lock Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Amazing pics Joey! You've captured the effect of the explosion very well. Perhaps funny to know: I play the French at this moment and today a pirate fleet (16 ships, with 9 galleons) blocked my port in Newfoundland, so I dispatched my fleet to it. My fleet contains 2 second rates and 3 fourth rates. With 2 stripes experience. I've defeated the pirates with authentic naval tactics, I lost no ship, captured 4, 6 surrendered and the rest sunk. But at that moment the pirates send another pirate fleet to my damaged fleet. 20 ships at least with a lot of galleons and fluyts. We started to fight and I lost since my ships were damaged already. The pirates won, their leftovers were 2 sloops and 1 fluyt... It works a lot to learn authentic naval tactics so you can defeat a lot of ships while you have only a few. But please don't try to use Nelson's special tactics, since they walk out into disaster in this game... Firing a whole broadside into the opponent's stern kills a man or 2, in real you kill almost the half of the crew! Learning naval tactics is quite interesting and it really works in games like this! "The simplest manoeuvres are the best." - Napoleon Bonaparte. Quote

Sir Wellington Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I won a huge land battle. Total deaths: 1,400 + America: Losses: 916 Deployed: 1,032 Britain (Me): Losses: 903 Deployed: Unknown Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 You're a bloody madman! I always try to avoid large ammounts of casualties. Always try to break the enemy's formation so they can't concentrate their fire on you anymore. Break them with cavalry and let your infantry follow the cavalry so they take care of the rest. Surround large groups so they can't regroup without getting killed. And always keep your flanks secure, put some men at the back of your formation to fill up the gaps during battle. Put the most long range units in your center so they can cover the whole battlefield. Protect your center with good melee infantry and use the units with the highest accuracy and reloading skill in the frontlines. You can also put long range infantry behind them to expand your firepower. Cavalry is easily beaten by bayonet equipped infantry units. No matter which kind of cavalry (no dragoons) When their charge formation is broken they are an easy target for bayonets. :pir-skull: Or you can simply cut 'em down with shrapnel or canister shot from your cannons. Mortars are the best weapon against units in a fortress and routing enemy units, mortars can cover the whole field! That's what I've learned a few days ago. I got some awesome screenshots on my other pc, the pc where I can actually play a good game on. I haven't spend that much time this week behind ETW but my exams are almost over.... Quote
Ratshot Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I really must buy this game. You fellows have been blabbing about it sense 2007. It must be good. Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 (edited) convinced me to buy the game, perhaps you guys like it too.And also I suddenly realise we are talking about it since the last day of 2007! That's a long time ago! Edited May 22, 2009 by Cap'n Blackmoor Quote
Sir Wellington Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 One reason I lost so many soldiers in my battle was it took an hour and 15 minutes to figure out how to fire the cannons. Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 That was the thing I tried to figure out as first! My friend fired the cannons (3 in total) on a marching enemy (120 men) and they ran immediately while they lost only 5 or so. Artillery attacks frightens the enemy units, which is very, very useful when well used! And horses are really scared of camels! Good luck with your upcoming battles! Quote
Raven Brickroft Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Oh gahd.... I really need the game. Though I still prefer the older ways of combat, those involved in Medieval 2, Empire's new ways of combat should still be a different experience. Oh god... I can't wait for the new PC to come. Quote
Captain Cavinano Posted June 1, 2009 Posted June 1, 2009 Oh god... I can't wait for the new PC to come. Same as you, mate. Quote
The Daphne Blue Strat Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Finally got Empire: Total War...and it's excellent. The first time my column of redcoats hiding behind a stone wall repelled a charge of Swedish cavalry more than twice their number, I knew I was hooked. Quote
Sir Wellington Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 (edited) Well, I bought Empire: Total War, I began installing it, it then crashed my computer, I spent over 100 dollars to get Dell to fix the computer then I figured out my computer did not meet one little requirement and if I want to fix that requirement to get the game to work on my computer it will cost 700 dollars, also I tried to return the game to Target, they did not accept it. So I wasted 152 dollars... EDIT: It needs a 2.4Ghz single core processor, I have a 2.2Ghz Edited June 8, 2009 by Sir Wellington Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted August 18, 2009 Author Posted August 18, 2009 It's just been announced that an expansion of sorts is being released, Napoleon: Total War. - There will be 3 new campaigns: Napoleon's campaigns in Italy, Egypt and Russia. - Improved diplomacy - You are able to customise uniforms - There will be a few historical battles, including Trafalgar and Waterloo - Voice commands Sounds quite interesting. I've been hoping for a Napoleonic expansion ever since E:TW came out. Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 What a great news! I was quite dissappointed the Battle of Trafalgar wasn't included, the largest and most important sea battle from that time! Now I want to have it! Also the uniform customization sounds great. No doubt I just have to have this! Quote

Captain Blackmoor Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I've discovered a kind of trailer video about the expansion: Here. It is avaible in februari 2010, at least in the Dutch shops. People from America can grab the game in januari already! A long way to go, but I think it will be worth it! Quote
