marook Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 I dunno, sometimes I find that Lego bricks can be put together in more ways than just the instructions that come in the set. I know the community doesn't like this 'unofficial' use, some user the derogatory term 'MOC' for it. I feel bad because I know so-called 'MOCs' are damaging the community by lowering the resale value of rare MISB sets. I dunno, I just picked up the habit from my kids. I've tried to stop them combining the bricks in new ways, but they just don't listen. I hope that is with a big ironic meaning, otherwise you missed the whole point of LEGO... ;-) Quote

I've tried to stop them combining the bricks in new ways, but they just don't listen. I get it man Here is what I do know, my main hobby is my cars first, then Transformers(G1 forever) and then comes Lego with the boy, only indulgence on my part with the Lego is 2 HE's I got a deal on and the Ecto-1. Transformers collectors and Lego collectors have two things in common. They feel they are entitled for Lego to build this and that for them(Hasbro/Takara for Transformers) and they think the adult buying community has an impact on their decisions beyond a rather small insignificant amount. The reality is they throw a few things each year at you to shut you up. For everyone one of us there are 50 more kids, parents and grandparents buying stuff. I'll even go out on a limb and tell you Lego are overpriced and always have been. They were expensive with cheap oil, they were expensive with expensive oil and they are expensive after moving a good amount of production to other cheaper countries. Add in surprise when profit surges as oil drops by 60% . I would go further on the hosing that are the new Star Wars sets but the Warsies would get mad. I want new trains to keep coming out and I wouldn't mind some real alternatives to them as well as other Creator sets. If I said I wanted anything other than US prototypes I would be lying as I would love to see Lego do something Union Pacific related as that's my road. Actually saw the new red freight set in person, it doesn't do a lot for me, but I think my 5 yr old would love it, but that won't happen unless there is a serious sale on it, so I have to bide my time. I want to see a new Creator set, I'll even settle for something European as long as it is done nicely I will survive and eventually build the evil MOCs that I have plans for. Quote

How about using Kragle so that they can't recombine the bricks in new ways? It's nice if LEGO comes out with a train that I like enough to buy. If they don't, no big deal. They still have LUGBULK to get my money. Quote

I think the red train could easily be MODed into an SP/SSW GP40 in the style of the Maersk. I suspect it could also work as UP, but the side tiles with studs to cover the battery box might be expensive in yellow and the studs on the tiles could be a hassle to work around. If someone was thinking about doing a GP 40 mod like that for any road to share it with the community (e.g., as an LDD file) drop me a PM if you want to talk about the possibility of custom stickers. You can never have too many nice builds like that. Quote

dr_spock Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Got em! not really something that looks nice but is possible. You're quick. If the long hood could be lowered, you could try to make it pass for a GP15D. Quote
davidmull Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 Does anyone else think we need something different like a plasser or anything maintanence. Quote
xboxtravis7992 Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 I am still hoping that a new exclusive train will come out. Sad to hear that the Horizon died out on such low prices, had I not been living in Argentina at the time I might have bought one or two (I already own one copy of the Horizon). As for personal wishes if or when the exclusive trains return: I want something beefy. I'd be okay if Lego didn't even include freight or passenger cars if we get an awesome locomotive. It is possible to pull of a 8 or even 10 driver engine in Lego using the flangeless wheels that we saw with the Night! Quote
THERIZE Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Does anyone else think we need something different like a plasser or anything maintanence. 'Something like the eurailscout ust 96'? Or Something like the 'unimat tamper' Quote
Lego Dino 500 Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 What about a Diesel engine with some MoW equipment and some freight cars? Or better yet, a transition era diesel passenger train and a separate MoW crew in the set. Quote
Steinkopf Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Does anyone else think we need something different like a plasser or anything maintanence. The problem with Per Way machines is they would have very limited appeal to the core target market, for the adult fans there maybe limited appeal but that would be about it. Another issue with building any Per Way machines is the intricate nature of the equipment that they have fitted to them and the delicate nature of the build to give that level of detail, I know this from my own experience as there are very few people who have built as many as I have. ilikeboomerang1 Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 I don't know how they look like in RL, but to me the closest we might get to that are the late 90s snowplow train, and the multiple road and rail trucks. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Got em! not really something that looks nice but is possible. Wow, impressive, is that strictly using parts from the set? I had in mind a design that used a lot of additional parts in dark gray and captured the rough form of the Maersk, e.g., as my Conrail MOD did with parts in blue. Quote

Lego Dino 500 Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 That seems pretty cool. It'd make a great accessory set, like the track crossing set we had a while back. I imagine it could be part of a "City Maintenance Set", with a tow truck and a street sweeper. Or in a Experts set with a track snow plow, and a few cars, which is the better yet ultimately unlikely choice. Quote
bullet8542 Posted September 19, 2015 Posted September 19, 2015 Does anyone think that TLG will make a cargo train that is more "American" styled? the last one that came out was the blue GE diesel style but the new one looks like it should be pulls passenger cars. And I see at least they kept the price the same as the last one but $199 is still steep, But of course I will buy it I am an addict. Quote

cgarison Posted September 21, 2015 Posted September 21, 2015 The new one is a European cargo train. Looks a lot better than the blue one. Depends whichever u like really. And I am more of an American diesel fan, but what I would like to see in the Creator series would be a new highly detailed Crocodile. My dream Lego train set.... I would like to see an American Pennsylvania GG1 that was run by the PRR until its demise, the PennCentral until its demise, and then ConRail and Amtrak until the locomitives were retired 50 years later, but I think Nate Brill's model has too many "illegal" 1980's style connections to make it look like the real thing for it to be possible for that to make a proper Lego set. Legoboy22 Posted September 22, 2015 Author Posted September 22, 2015 why does no one like the HE? I think it sold well and was a great representation of the real french TGV given the design constraints. Honestly I prefer it to the Maersk train. Quote

v6TransAM Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 How about we skip a train set and get a decent C truck so we can have a decent looking 3 axle setup for building on? I see one more thing that is 6 axle built with 4 I'm gonna puke Barring the above, steam wise an American 4-6-2 or 4-8-4 would be doable and nice. Diesel wise maybe something from Alco like a Century series or an early Geep build. There are lots of others I would like, but I'm being realistic on stuff Lego has a hope in heck of making. It has to have mass market appeal. Quote
THERIZE Posted September 22, 2015 Posted September 22, 2015 My dream set would be a Delaware and Hudson ALCO PA. I love ALCO PA's and the blue livery looked epic! Quote
