Don't want to be mr Negative, but do you think there might be a reason My Own Train stopped after just one year?

The problem with trains (on Ideas and in Creator Expert) seems to be that it's very hard to find a train that has worldwide appeal. High-end cars are the same around the world; Ferrari's and Porsches are recognised everywhere. Trains however look different and that makes it hard to get enough votes.

True, but I also think that we shouldn't just focus on the trains. There are many examples of train-related items. How about highly detailed maintenance of way unit? Perhaps another Maersk-based product? A generic LRV?

When I went to pick up the Brick Bank during the last few days of double VIP points just recently, my Lego store had 60051 pulled off the shelf and had it on that little "clearance" area that Lego stores have for 119.99 USD. I wasn't planning on buying it since I just got 7938 from Bricklink this year, but for the sale price + double VIP, I couldn't resist. Seemed a bit early for them to start moving them off the shelf; hopefully it's a sign of things to come. Or they just needed the shelf space for other sets and I'm just reading into it too much.

... it seems like it is time for this topic because of the anticipation of TLG doing something special for the 50th anniversary of lego trains.

Several years some of us talked with Lego about making their little yellow KOF switcher which operated at Hohenwestedt ( https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3046/2685715864_51691525c9_b.jpg ) but they didn't seem too interested. It would make a great Train anniversary model.

Where is this train? Is it still there? Like that looks like it is begging to be railfanned, photographed from all angles, built in Lego, and then kitbashed in HO scale. That's just awesome. (I'd Lego ever opened a plant in the US, I'd love to see a SW engine in that paint scheme)

The loco was bought by VTG Lehnkering AG in 2002 and repainted in the DB colours. Railbricks issue 8 has an article about it.

I really hope that it's a licensed Polar Express set, that'd be beautiful to have running around a tree or layout. But I'm not 100% since Lionel is still producing Polar Express trains, but Lego being a building toy may skirt that contract like with Star Wars. And hopefully with more than one car, that made the Emerald Night a nightmare trying to assemble a full train. I put together a couple of cars in LDD for it, and it'd come out to around 1500 pieces for a loco, two passenger cars, and a observation car ending. And if it isn't, a simple 2-6-0 like the Hogwarts express and some passenger cars would be cool. It'd also allow them more bricks for building too.

I really hope it won't be a licensed Polar Express set because that would only inflate the price.

Lego trains are expensive enough as it is, it wouldn't surprise me if the price was jacked up just because it was a train, it doesn't help that LEGO is already too expensive in Australia, for example, 60051 (2014LEGO CITY High-speed Passenger Train) is AUD$229.99 (USD$176.38).

I'm not complaining at all though, this earth is not my home.

Absolutely Brick City! I just bought the 31038 Railway Signal Box! (It may have a different name in different regions...)

Unfortunately you need to buy two to do the set but no additional parts are required and it comes with the interior detail.

Then they could do more locomotives, for example North American, West European and maybe ex-USSR.

Here is a locomotive, for example? And to him a dozen cars?

It is necessary to rely only on sales. We bought just 8 pieces 60051 for $USD 50.

Let the company Lego anything release of trains, interestingly, where locomotives will lead design idea creators. After all, it turns out that their thoughts much better thoughts creators of steam engines and locomotives, which display their gorgeous models Lego ideas. And it was no, for some reason.

$50!!!!!!!

Good thing I plan on moving to the United States, I know that (in stores at least), the most you tend to get of a LEGO set here in Australia is %20

If AFOL trains don't sell enough, mabye LEGO should just release more track packs and train part packs (wheels, couplers, pantographs, cow catchers, etc) and leave it up to the AFOL's to design their own trains (and upload the instructions to LEGO.com if they choose so that novices (such as myself) can get instructions)

Amazing models btw, are there any interior details in that passenger car?

Yes, there are interior. This model of linear dynamic range of my good fellow pavlo Russian Forum Lego lovers. He has already made a lot of beautiful models Soviet rolling stock. Persuade him out here on the EB models for discussion can not yet. Obviously, he had them still improving. I do not know how to build.

So you're trying to tell me that you made something you wanted out of a collection of bricks? Its almost like that is the point of Lego.

Then shared it on a page for people who like to share such things

I'm with you on that Duq, if it is similar to the Polar Express, those who want one can mod it and do some custom stickers and everyone gets a train at a lower price point.

You mean like...

LEGO_Kof by John Neal, on Flickr

LEGO Köf by Gavyn Rogers, on Flickr

These are very impressive. A little polybag version would be awesome with the release of the winter train...

That is an interesting idea. Both 60052 and 60098 seem to have done quite well in Australia despite their prototypes not being common here.

There are some good threads here http://cs.trains.com/trn/f/741/t/208645.aspx and here https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-most-popular-locomotive-in-the-world on the most numerous locomotives in the world but I think Flying Scotsman is the only locomotive to have run in the UK, US and Australia. But I fear TLG would say "Big Green Pacific" has been done.

Hopefully they'll scale it back a bit, the 4x4 curved slope boiler was huge on the Emerald Night. Maybe a 3X3 or 2x2 design out of cheese slopes, on a smaller engine like a 2-6-4. But no matter what it is, as long as it's black, greebly with boiler and engine details, and has some good Pullman coaches I'll buy it. And it wouldn't hurt if Lego made the cars sand blue and dark red.

Posted

I would like the see a train based off of the Polar Express, like the engine type and several coaches. I don't want it to be directly the Polar Express, since that'd bump up the price.

Posted

A big black American steam train would be a must buy for me. Still if TLG did a UK or mainland Europe, I'd be okay.

But seeing it's a holiday train have we considered the worse? Yep a small engine in red and green pulling flat cars of trees... :(
