lightningtiger Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 On closer inspection the police station looks even worse, the upper floors appear to be only four studs deep compared to the base plate size. Some the vehicles are also a fail, the weird atv ute thingy in the starter pack and the front end on the police car in 60138......I don't know just meh on top of some cool designs. Maybe with more images it might look better, but I don't think so. We must now look forward to the great vehicle images and those from New York Toy Fair early next year, as Howard Jones sang "Things can only get better" ! Quote
BrickJagger Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Unfortunately this whole wave looks like a pass for me. Really digging the new female hair/hat combo as well as all of the new torsos, though. At first glance my favorite of the sets in the Auto Transporter, but it's significantly less useful as a Police-themed vehicle. Quote
sneff Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Well I have to say I am not impressed. Hopefully the second wave will make up for it. Looking forward to the pizza van. Quote
Wodanis Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 I am thoroughly unimpressed with the police wave for 2017. Clearly the good designers are doing other themes. I am surprised that these passed their peer reviews in the design process. The police station is a mess of bricks and new parts slapped together. By far the most horrible design for the mobile police truck I've seen to date. The bank is the only one that looks decent and I would purchase. What is with the vehicle in the mini-fig pack? It's clear that they had some room with the price point and threw it in. The new thief torso prints look good. Let us hope the other City sets will be stronger. Quote
Ashnflash Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Why does LEGO keep making police stations? Like make a really nice one or make a Modular and keep it around for a few years. My goodness I feel like we get a new one every year... Quote

Robert8 Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Nothing special in this wave... Everything looks way too generic Maybe the new cap with hair but that's it Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 So let's see.... 60136 starter pack - only good for the minifigs - new torsos. 60137 tow truck trouble - is one of three which are good - again new torsos and a white dirt bike plus new police road bike. 60138 high speed chase - only the minifigs and red sports car are a plus but do I see Chase McCain there ? 60139 mobile command centre - really a shortened semi trailer ? - pass (only the female minifig is the only plus) 60140 bulldozer break-in - best of the whole theme - new bank building, cool 4x4 police vehicle - though another small copter really Lego ? 60141 police station - a step backward in design in my opinion, need to see what's in the back to truly judge it. 60143 auto transport heist - second or perhaps equal best set of the theme - cool truck (seriously how many of these will be scratch built in different colours), neat 4 wide cars fit with the rest of the city line i.e. city square. My guess the money transport will be a retail exclusive, only time will tell. Quote
Yeow Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 (edited) Posted this on Reddit, sorry if you read it already there. But as someone who usually buys a lot of police sets, I am not impressed by these at all. Several of these look extremely unfinished and the color scheme of some of the police cars looks really bad, especially the police car in the Auto Transport Heist. The mobile command center doesn't seem to have a cohesive design either. It looks something more akin to what a child might build with just the pieces in their limited collection. I'll reserve judgement until I see the builds, but the Speed Champion designs being used on police cars with a more limited City budget leaves something to be desired. I'm also scared about the prices of these, considering what's been going on lately with the price of the recent Octan Gas station. The only sets I'll be picking up are the Auto Transport heist for the police truck and the high speed chase set for Chase McCain. Hopefully that means something else is in the works in regards to Lego City Undercover besides the upcoming dimension pack. Also, what in the world is going on with the tail rotor of the helicopter in the Bank set, that looks awful! Edited November 2, 2016 by Yeow Quote
Legocity2713 Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 (edited) The ATV is one of the best we've ever had, it just feels complete... unlike the Starter Set, Mobile Command Center, and the High-Speed Chase. (The last of which looked better in the prelims somehow) The police torsos look great and are not yellow specific making them more versatile and I'm digging the construction/blue collar/everyday person motif with the crooks, makes everything feel more real and grounded. Also... Chase McCain! Great to see him getting some love again. Definitely going to pick up the tow truck but that impound lot and car carrier looks great too. We need more fresh ideas like that. Super Mario overalls on the crooks in the Starter Set is also a little funny thing to take note of! Edited November 2, 2016 by Legocity2713 Quote

Pretty sure there was a documentary on this specific question Lol where is the documentary But my point is what's wrong with the police station and fire station we already have? Why does it have to be new? Why can't they be like oh here's an extension to the police station we already have on the shelves. But it's been the same rehash over and over and over again. (Although this one looks really good) Edited November 2, 2016 by Ashnflash Quote
makoy Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Is it just me or the thief in red overalls has leg printing? Quote
jonwil Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 I like the new police sets and will be adding a bunch of them to my collection. If nothing else, police stations are often great parts packs :) Quote
Khscarymovie4 Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 The bank is pretty good. I don't care about any of the other sets. Not a great wave for police. Quote
Nexo Bricks Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 (edited) This was posted on Brickset if anyone wants to see. 60136- Police Starter Set In my opinion.. Minifigures are nice but the ATM and Truck thing are just weird. EDIT: Realized it was already posted. My bad! Edited November 3, 2016 by Nexo Bricks Quote
sneff Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 That police starter set reminds me of the garbage Lego put out in the late 90's. I really think Lego should do a seperate city theme for AFOLS. Maybe call it "City Advanced" or something similar. Sets a bit more expensive than city but a bit cheaper than modulars. Quote

Pretty sure there was a documentary on this specific question Yep, National Geographic Mega Factories Lego: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swC8ZTRxgbQ "The most popular classic Lego set in history" "The flagship set of Lego City". Edit: though this documentary features the design process of that set, it follows the entire Lego manufacturing process throughout which is cool whether you like the Police sets or not. Bricknblue Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 These are lazy rehashes of current sets that will be even more overpriced. However the new pieces, square mudflap and hat / hair piece, are great. Te little badd guy vehicles are very nicely design, more so the bulldozer. The police station is my least favorite of the last many many years. Just random. Mobile command unit is horrible and bizarre. Half the cars / trucks have car doors, so that's always nice. Quote
Amazing Bricks Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Ok, I love the minifigures! There's a lot of variety with the robbers, love how female cops are getting the spotlight, and Chase McCain! However, the builds are well... not good. But back to the minifigures. I like the brown mustached cop and that robber that's in his set, female robber with mask, the red and green overalls, the dark green robber torso, and the cop hat/hair combo for the girl. So, the minifigures are pretty good this time around, but the builds are getting worse every year... Quote

Man, you know we're really desperate when we're complimenting the design of a 40 piece set. The best set in this huge wave is somehow a tiny little ATV. You gotta do better, designers. Quote
XAxles Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Not a whole lot of takers... but on the other hand, I can maybe buy 4 of 60140 (for a modular), 4 of 60142 (because I actually like it) and 2 of 60138 (for two copies of Chase McCain so I can put the head on Ethan Hunt's body). (Aside: has anyone tried making a big modular police station using all of the police stations prior to 2015 or '16?) Now to wait for GV and the rest of the themes... Quote
YellowCorvette Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 The bank set may be the best among the bunch. I like the bank building, bulldozer and the police truck in the bank set. The others is just ok for me. I feel like the designers trying to replicate some designs on the police car from 60128 into the new police cars, but the execution leaves something to be desired. Quote
LegoSjaak Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 (edited) The crooks are doing well, they're getting better and faster and more expensive cars each year!! Edited November 3, 2016 by LegoSjaak adding picture Quote
