Klaus-Dieter Posted February 2, 2017 Author Posted February 2, 2017 Thank you very much for the info, Cwetqo, and for the pics, Nequmodiva! I'm completely disappointed by the outcome of Fun At The Beach. At least we're getting two new kid's pants and three new trunks (blue, red and green) and there seem to be some nice new torsos. But there are only very few minifigs wearing swimwear, a small sand shovel and a sun cream tube are missing, the volleyball net should have consisted of cloth, the lifebelt should be yellow (Do they throw Advent wreaths?!), the "watchtower" has no ladder upstairs and there is only one sunlounger. The ice cream stand is pure irony - it absolutely can't be defined as such! In contrast to that there is some stuff which imo is really out of place for a beach scene: the kayak, the deep sea explorer diver, the dog, the dustman and the man hunting for gold. It seems as if TLG saw that the FATP sells very well and so in a very short time wanted to design a new set with many limits. The Coast Guard sets are quite ok. Nothing stunning here and many stuff looks very similar to the last time we got it. I'm a bit disappointed about the CG HQ not including a garage with roller gates and a car with a small boat. But hey - at least we finally get a HQ! The heli in this set is ugly, but TLG bothered to design a more fitting heliport. The civilian boat looks really decent. From the outside the CG ship looks really well design. I like it that there isn't a heliport on its deck. The appliance with crane for the dinghy is cool. Whether I buy this set will depend on how decent the ship's interior will be. The Starter Set looks nice - especially the car. I don't care about the heli since I hoped that TLG will offer us a bigger one in a completely new design (somthing more military-like looking with two cockpits). About the seaplane I don't care, too. Only that the small rescue raft looks really cool. But the 4x4 looks brilliant and the trailer with the boat looks decent, too - I consider to buy this set. I like it that TLG included big buoys in the HQ and the 4x4! And the red signal flares are fun. I really like the Freight Terminal. Like already mentioned a time ago, I miss a depot building very much! But everything other is perfect: The truck with trailer, the container stacker and the forklift look brilliant, the high rack does its justice, there is some nice cargo and the gate simply stunning and a perfect addition! The Bus Station is a real beauty! Of course (like nearly always) there are some minor things to critizise - such as that the grandpa should have been replaced by a more common man (like the father from the FATP set), the bus sign should have been replaced by a screen showing the next busses stopping by, TLG should use new colors for the bikes since red and azure are used really much too often, and the newsstand should be minimum four studs deep. But otherwise it's perfect: We get a small newsstand which adds a nice and realistic atmosphere, the bus stop itself looks decent and the bus really cool - the double door for the wheelchair to get inside is a nice, new thing. Honestly, the most excited I'm about the Jungle Exploration theme which is imo done very well! TLG learned from last year when we got in the Vulcanoe Exploration theme cool vehicles, but nearly no scenery which disturbed very much. But now the Jungle Exploration theme has some scenery in every set - even in the smallest one! And this scenery was designed with much love. I don't like the two huge, blocky vehicles which will again include nearly no interior, I fear! And I miss a tent (for the explorians to sleep) and a cage (where to lock the panther / leopard). But the small boat in the Starter Set is really cool! The helicrane couldn't have been done better for its size. And the quad included, too. The halftrack vehicle isn't my taste, but the small vehicle included and the little location are nice and the panther is very cool. I could have lived without the small heli in the Research Location, but the ruin, the crashed plane and the some sort of amphibian vehicle are all well designed. The kayak is beautiful and the leopard ingenious. Ingenious is even the waterfall in the Mobile Laboratory. That the croco can come out of it is funny. I like it that they added the meat eating plant in this and in the flagship set. For sure I'll buy every of these sets! I, too, am really hoping for a new city square / main street / etc. with minimum two buildings. Since only one civilian building this year - which is btw in the Police theme - would be really disappointing. But I could well imagine that there won't be such a set. Remember 2018 is the 60th anniversary of Town? So TLG for sure keeps something big and mainly civilian oriented for then. And consequently it might even be that there won't be another civilian set in 2017 because they think that it then could compete against it. I personally bet that the still undefined set will be a JE Exclusive since its set number is exactly between the biggest JE set and the smallest CG set. Quote

There are 5 civilian buildings in the Creator line this year, more than ever before. And even two Creator vehicles include minifigs now (31046, 31066), so Creator is more and more invading the city line. Quote

lightningtiger Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 Hmm, I wonder 60 years of town next year and ten years in 2018 since town plan was released......just thinking out loud. Now is there anything Lego could of done to make Fun At The Beach better than it is ? How about a better volleyball net and an actual ice cream vendor ? Quote
mon-o-mat Posted February 3, 2017 Posted February 3, 2017 (edited) I am disapointed how different the quality between the vehicles in the jungle line is. I mean, the two big trucks look really well desgined. Then you have the helicopters wich are pretty standard, also the small transport helicopter is kinda nice. Just like the half-track. It seems like it started as a normal truck, but somebody thought giving it those short tracks would make it 'special'. And then there are all those cheap small quads and the 6x6 which look really cheap and fast made. Edited February 3, 2017 by mon-o-mat Quote

Legoman123 Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Bit of an odd question, and probably not for '2017 Lego City' but how many types of dogs do we have? I am literally under the impression it's just the German Shepherd? Quote
Hobbythom Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 I'm rather disappointed with fatb aswell. Can't believe the inflatable duck from the batman cmf isn't included. Such a great piece...with huge batmask on it. Really deserved a 'clean' version. Quote

I count the old dog mold (found in e.g. the little police officer set from 2008), the German Shepard (which has several different prints including a Dalmatian print), the Chihuahua (from various sets including the new modular), the Husky (from the Arctic theme among other sets), the Terrier (from the Dog Show CMF last year) plus all the various Friends dogs (which can fit with minifigs depending on the intended use) Oh and there is also Scooby Doo and that Superman dog :) Quote

Personally I'd love it if they did a Retriever + Rot Willer told though. Quote

Yes - it annoys me so much that parts like this get made for licensed themes and don't make an appearance (don't get me started on the Prince of Persia camel and ostrich!). We definitely need a clean version of what would be a great piece without the unnecessary 'Bat' branding but you wonder if Lego will bother, given that it wasn't included in FTAB - a set surely made for such a piece. Having said that, it's nice that City fans are at least being treated to some novel sets this year. Finally new animal moulds and some good civilian sets. As a huge City fan I really have bought very few City sets over the past 20 years but there are lots I will buy in 2017. Please keep this up, Lego! Quote
Robert8 Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 I just noticed there made a jungle theme without a single monkey. First they replaced the monkeys with frogs in Pirates 2015. And now this? A new color of the classic monkey would have been perfect. Maybe black? Quote
Roebuck Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Yes, a little bit odd that they did not include the newly updated parrot and /or monkey mould in the sets.. But Lego has never exaggerated the number of animal moulds in a set (the closest they got where maybe in 6055), so I guess they figured they have been generous enough already If you want to keep the hope up and grasping at straws; there is always the probably biggest jungle set still waiting to be revealed Quote
ColletArrow Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 As mentioned over in Train Tech, the freight terminal set may be a good companion for 60052. Annoyingly, however, it's 6x10 containers are not compatible with the older cargo train 7939 (which had 6x12), but they are the same size as the older ones from 7992 crane and 7994 harbour! Less kids are going to have these older sets, and anyone who owns 7939 are likely to be frustrated by the lack of compatibility. But it is an excellent set, with 2 ways of loading cargo on the truck, and some good representative structures as well. Quote
DarkShark6679 Posted February 11, 2017 Posted February 11, 2017 Looking forward to finally getting a nice six wide LEGO bus! The earlier ones came with with other stuff I wasn't that keen on. The real life buses here are yellow as well, so that's cool. Got the PIzza van, pretty nice with the moped and hair styling on the female figure, but I think I'll have to adapt the back a bit, maybe with some smoked glass. Quote

Yes, I hadn't spotted the bush until you mentioned it - there's a neat speed camera build over there too. And those spikes look suspiciously similar to those in 70808 Super Cycle Chase... not that I'm complaining. They look good and add a 'play feature' to such a small polybag. Quote
